I was in exactly the same position as you about 6 months ago. If you can pass on split-screen I think Uncharted 2 will leave you very satisfied.

Not many have vouched for it, but I fell into the Assassin's Creed world like no other. I loved it (loved it more than the second one) I loved the sharper graphics, and I loved the main character. (Although he is a love him or hate him kind of guy.) I really found it to be a game of quality. Even though it can get repetitive, I didn't mind one bit, just because it was so beatiful.
Other than that, I would reccomend Grand Theft Auto 4. I havn't played Red Dead Redemption, but GTA 4 has given me hours of reckless fun, and I'm only about 20% into the game.
I will also vouch for Uncharted 1&2. I don't need to say much, considering the amount of people who have already said everything I could say.
Good luck finding a few great games. There's lots of them out there- you just need to find them. ^_^

I don't know why everyone is saying MGS4. If you never played the others (and considering this is his first console, he probably hasn't), he'll never understand the story at all! On a different note, I'd suggest Uncharted and MAYBE Warhawk, but only if you really like multiplayer.

I'm here with a post that no one will be surprised me saying

KillZone 2, the online is solid.
Just a little difficult to get your teeth into.
Its well worth the effort though.
I would agree but I get home at 6:30 and go to bed at 10, I wake up tired and when I get home I don't feel like playing. I eat one thing a day I am that tired.

I get this Saturday off so I shall be trying to get better then.

What sort of time, chances are I'll be playing this saturday (practise, got a clan match that night), if you join an "all ranks" game I should be able to join you and revive you.

I don't think you will be able to revive me fast enough, I die an awful lot. I would probably ruin your playing by constantly holding my hand.

This would be a great place for me to look. I too was thinking of buying a console as I am in the same boat as this bloke. Mainly a PC gamer, but I've been hating consoles less sooo...

Anywho, OT: I've heard boatloads of people recommend that the God of War games are pretty good. But I would reckon they would be pretty expensive, especially considering how mainstream they are at the moment.

Not really, since we'll be two targets instead of just one, also I have all secondary abilities unlocked which includes revive and med packs, med packs recharge about every 10 seconds.

Uncharted, Uncharted 2, Ratchet & Clank games, and Resistance:Fall of Man (I liked the first one much better than the second one. Dont know why)

I just unlocked the revive thingy and it takes for ever to recharge, I know in BC2 it took about 2 or 3 seconds but in KZ2 it takes about 10.

I also seem to get stuck with the team that gets spawn camped, it seems really easy to do.

To overcome a "base rape" as its called in KZ you need a Tactician to throw a spawn point in a good position, if the base rape is that bad it sounds like the more experienced members are jumping into the n00b games.

They have a tendency to do that to pad their stats, newbies are easy pickings.

MGS4 is a great way to start your PS3 Gaming. But only if you have played the other games in the series.

Also, Resistance 1 and 2.
+1 internets for MGS4

OT uncharted for the storyline

I do kind of liked getting base raped though, I have a tendency to run in and die. I have never cared about K/D, it just means I can get to the action quicker.
