Heavy Rain: short version, play it NOW if you're not currently being treated for depression or related anxiety disorders. Long version?
This game is a masterpiece of despair, from the very first scene how you are conveyed from the very CONTROLS themselves rather than just story how difficult this man's busy life is before it is ruined. Every movement is a stress to him, and merely an hour in, you go from a loving father to an absolute wreck of a man who loses a son to a car accident, and a wife to divorce as she takes your kid from you.
And even before the heartrending scene where you look for your lost son in a megamall, you have to look for said son as he finds his pet bird dead. Shit's deep, and it's certainly one of the most in-depth games that immerse you I've ever played. Having been hit by a car recently yet surviving without harm, this game shattered me in terms of presenting me with an alternate universe where my father and my brother lived on as I was dead from a car accident, instead of what happened to me where I got hit at a low speed and lived with nary a scratch.
This game is BRUTAL, and like Eraserhead it's like if you watch it, it will never entirely go away in your memory. Play this game now if you're not already depressed or prone to it.
