I don't like reality shows, but I have a great idea for one.
Basically the biggest problem with reality shows is also its biggest draw, it is invariably populated by conflict causing dicks. Usually the people aren't even fighting about something important, they're just fighting. So what if we got a 3 people from different continents, like 3 people from Asia, North America, Africa, ect... And had them compete on this reality show with world problem based challenges.
Is this scraping the bottom of the barrel?

Alot of stuff is shit.

But heres fine examples of how shows are coming back:
Game of Thrones
Strike Back
Falling Skies
The Walking Dead
(Coming out this week) Terranova

Shows are making a comeback and TV is becoming better.

Over here in the United Kingdom, we have a show called Big Brother, based around the theme frpm George Orwells' book, "1985", in which every nuance of peoples' daily lives is put under survelliance and scrutiny. Make no mistake, however, this show has absolutely no socio-political message or brain behind it, or in fact a brain of any description.

In it, a group of random social misfits and outcasts (or in some cases, low-rent celebrities)are locked in a house and set a series of challenges by a disembodied voice with a Geordie accent. Now, to refer back to the OP, this show was a concept that was scraping the bottom of the barrel by Season Three. By this point, the bottom of the barrel has been breached, and the coal layer has been hit. There is nothing I find more destestable or culturally stagnant than a reality show. The ONE good thing to come out of Big Brother is an off-shoot programme called "Dead Set", a scripted show where the Big Brother House is attacked by hordes of the living dead. And you know what? I call that a 100% positive thing.

tired of crime dramas to
why dose some one need to die/get robbed/raped/kidnapped for there to be a story?!

hint: they don't, learn to write better >.<

yes i am saying I could do better
Thank you for that little course in writing, person who didn't capitalize the appropriate letters, use complete sentences, or spell the word "too" properly. I'm sure you're an expert in it.

Here's a free writing lesson. Drama requires conflict. Emotional tension adds to said conflict. Crime is relatable as every person has been affected by it at one point in their life. Therefore, crime is a virtual necessity for a drama if its not going to be about having sex randomly. That is why crime dramas of today are among the best shows ever put on tv.
-.- cant tell if stupid or not

let me drop some knowledge on YOU

yes, drama needs conflict to be 'dramatic'

it dose NOT need to be the same 3 or 4 sources
EVERY
FUCKING
TIME
all they are doing is taking the easy way out, and frankly, i am tired of it.

aimed at the bold part:
any writer the relies on 'random sex' should be fired, I'm not against using sex as a plot device, but there needs to be a very good reason to make it anything other the a foot note in story telling.

so again, yes, i could do better -.-
Whiny teen melodrama of "Oh my gosh, my girlfriend just cheated on me, this is the worst thing to ever happen" doesn't count as good writing or good drama. A group of rapist friends and the boyfriend and girlfriend team of serial killers hunting them down, eluding the police as they deal with the developing feelings they have for each other as well as coming to terms with what has happened to them and their place in the world, does.

And once again, you can't spell, capitalize or use complete sentences.
XD XD wow, so .. your got enough time to rip my FORUM POST apart grammatically, but fail to get the point.

again ... *sighs*

the REAL problem with TV writes is a lack of creativity, be it a crime drama, teen drama, 'reality TV' or what have you, no ones trying anymore. its all he same, boring crap with the 'emotional pull' of a 2x4. it takes a creative mind that cares about what they are doing to make quality works that, unfortunately, no longer grace our TV screen. getting an emotional response requires both a skilled writer, and (since its TV we're talking about) a director that that is creatively 'on the same page' and i haven't seen a single ... anything ...on TV as of late to make me feel anything other then 'meh'.

get the point now, or do i need to use smaller words grammar nazi
It would help if you used the correctly spelled words. I've told you this twice, and you still adamantly refuse to use capitalization, correct spelling or complete sentences.

Given the critical adoration of modern dramas, its clear you are using a definition of "good" that is unique to you and only you, one clearly based shit like the outer limits, where it doesn't matter that nothing makes sense and is in no way entertaining, so long as no episode has any connection to any other one.
@the first bold bit:
i don't listen to ... what ever you think you are ... ever, get over it

yeah and? kinda the point of STATING YOUR OPINION WHEN ASKED, duh, apparently you missed that bit as well, wonderful -.- sky's blue to FYI.

but back on point: you honestly don't see a problem with cookie cutter TV? o.0 for real? critical praise is meaningless, really, at the end of the day a critic opinion of a show means far less then how many people are watching it (which is why we still have idol *deep sigh*) so try again there, and try again on any kinda season long 'plot' or what passes for one these days, oh sure, might be something at the start, and a mid season bit, then the season finally to tie it up.

so >.> what, that's 3-5 eps a season that have a connected plot? -.- and this is good enough for you, really -.- well good news, YOUR getting your wish, while I'm staying away from the TV, enjoy the same thing on every channel

Why watch TV when I can play video games? I mean, if I'm gonna stare at a screen that isn't MLP:FiM or [Escapist related, I could be using this time to play LoL, LotRO, FO:NV, TES:O, Portal, Minecraft, Combat Arms, etc]
Had to fix it abit, but I think you get the gist of what I'm saying

They were scraping the bottom of the barrel around 2004, now they are scraping the concrete underneath were the bottom of the barrel used to be.
The thing about "reality" TV is that has been scrapping the bottom of the barrel for years, it has scrapped so low they are digging up the dirt under the concrete the barrel was sitting on.

Bring back those game shows with hyperactive contestants and hosts who have an IV line of pure heroin pumping in to them.
