I have just downloaded Team Fortress 2 through Steam, but when I go to play it I am told that my I have an "Unknown Video Card". I click the "Upload Details" options and then go continue anyway. But the game does not run I am met with a screen that changes from black to grey to three rows of red, blue and green going from dark shades to light from right to left. The whole thing just loops and when I return to Steam I told I have played the game for several minutes.

The video card is an Intel(R) G45/G43 Express Chipset on an Acer All-in-One with Windows 7 if that helps.

P.S. I haven't had much experience with PC gaming before.

A lot of games have issues with intel on board video graphics, lack of a 3d accelerator I think. Unfortunately you may have to get a radon or geforce card to run it, you'll have to check the required specs to find out what's supported though

I think the PC I'm running on doesn't allow me to change parts or upgrade it.
It is very similar to this. http://www.pcworld.com/product/324675/acer_aspire_z5610_allinone_pc.html

Dude, most integrated vid sets aren't robust enough to handle games like TF2, you'll need a proper video card.

Yeah, you cannot expect much response from onboard video. Basically onboard video serves 2 purposes. 1 is to be active out of the gate in order to have something come up on post test, and the second is that it is a way to save on PC overhead because if you arent planning to use a pc for gaming, you wouldnt need an extra 100$ or so video card, and thus bringing the price down for the "entry level" computing crowd that the most graphic intensive thing they use is flash for youtube or hulu.

Sometimes onboard cards can run games... Check www.canyourunit.com to do a spot check, if it has the specs, filters, ect, it might be worth troubleshooting. If not, then your better off getting a cheap midline graphics card. If your on a laptop... yeah, might as well forget it, and find a desktop to play on.

Edit: all in 1 pc... which is basically the PC equivalent to a laptop. Notice on the spec sheet, 0 PCIE 16 slots? yeah your not going to be adding a card.

I hate to say it, but all-in-ones aren't really meant for any sort of high end gaming. If you want to play some of PC gaming's best you're most likely going to need a new computer.

An all in one means no changing anything. You're pretty much stuck, integrated video generally can't do much other than the basics. When you get a new computer, don't go pre-built.

Its not the same one as the link and i went on can you run it before downloading the game. I meet all the recommended specs but I only got minimum requirements as the thing said my graphics card wasn't the right one despite ticking all boxes in the graphics section any way.

There's your problem - Intel on board graphics card. Intel's cards just don't cut it for gaming. You need a proper graphics card to do anything beyond the basics. Upgrade your graphics as soon as you can. Since you bought an all in one for some reason, that will most likely mean a new computer.

No PCI-E slots. That's ludicrous for that price, I am honestly stunned by that. If you can get a refund I'd recommend doing that immediately, that PC has zero upgrade potential. You can get bare bones budget PC's for a third of the price that have at least 1 PCI-E (the expansion slot that graphics cards use).

you have the same chipset as me. theres no problem with it, basically its Valve saying 'never heard of this chipset, it might not run the game...' you get that with a few games, but this is because Valve made Steam and TF2. it runs ok, but you should get a better graphics card. next time you start up, dont change the settings that come up just click continue anyway.

Many people run into your sort of problem. As stated before All in One PCs are not meant to be used for gaming. Being able to run a game and being able to run said game WELL are two very different things. Recommended specs for games are a joke...you may be able to run TF2 on Intel integrated graphics (shudder), but you would most likely have to change the video settings to the lowest they will go and the resolution will have to be turned down a bit.

Don't be. It's Acer. I've encountered so many stupid/weird hardware issues with Acer. I'll never buy another one of them.

It may not be the same, but it doesn't matter. If it's an All-In-One PC like the one shown in the link, then it doesn't matter if they're not the same. As it doesn't allow for customization. And I would not trust SystemRequirementLab since those type of programs tend to overestimate a computer's capability to perform. And Intel graphics are integrated and used for standard gaming. It'll work for flash games though.

yep, intel 'graphics' strikes again

I'm afraid you don't have a graphics card, good sir! you will need one for allot of steam games

there is no answer to your problem other than get a new motherboard and a graphics card
you could do that for £80-100 if you shop around
something like
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-139-MS&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=1490
and
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-105-MS&groupid=701&catid=1914&subcat=1863

would do nicely for basic gaming and let you use the rest of your pc components
just be sure to check if you have ddr2 or ddr3, and buy the appropriate motherboard

or buy any 'gamer' pc from a site like over-clockers ( or whatever company is closest to you )
