Well, I like the idea, it'll be a hard sell of "Play in the Stone age" when I know mamoth has like a million hit points and I all can do it piss it off. But otheer wise it's sounds fun.
i really couldnt think of another boss for the stone age, i knew a dinosaur would be too difficult

i really wish i could make games so i could actually make this game a reality, if anyone can make games feel free to use this idea

I think the only thing hindering this, if the repetition is addressed, would be the fact that it feels too scattered. And you're going through all of this to do what, kill one guy? Screw that. If I mastered EVERY FORM OF COMBAT KNOWN TO MAN by going back in time and experiencing every age of war, I would conquer Gotham City and the rest of the world. And then the world that mutant jerk came from.

And then another after that.

Hmm. What about Thrug the tribe's champion. And if you beat him you win all the respect in the land or something

And end up being the mutant jerk at the start... that might actually work.. sorry for giving away the ending...

Only one dumb question, what is going to happen at the start of each level? Are you going to go forward in time with nothing, meaning that you will be starting each level sans weapons, or are you going to bring past weapons forward which begs me to ask the question: How would you like to fight ancient Romans while wearing a loincloth and holding a big wooden club?

Oh my god. Doesn't make a lick of sense but that would be pretty damn sweet.

enemy cyborg muntant alien
That title is horrible. Sounds something like a child would say. No offense.

Otherwise, the idea is interesting. Would make a good action/rpg type of game, I suppose.

Good idea. +1UP.

(Time travel is ALWAYS a good IDEA.)

The time travel aspect should be out of the hands of our protagonist.

Maybe The-Evil-Badass-Boss-Mecha-dude Sends our beloved hero to Stone age, just to get him away from ruining The World domination plans. (Now, main evils are usually kinda stupid. Why not just kill the fella?)

Or..

The hero's scientist friend (doc Brown), tries to send Marty...the player to kill the enemy cyborg muntant alien (now I got it right) when it was a little child (how cruel world), but something obviously goes wrong.

Throw in some paradoxes too.

And pirates.....Yarrrr.

What if you go throughout time, honing your skills, only to find out that the end boss is you from an alternate future.
Future you comes from a time where the world has gone to shit because of the changes you made to history, alternate future you even had to watch his family die brutal deaths. So alt-fut you came back in order to end yourself for the good of the world.

Upon defeating alt-fut you the game could continue with you battling some other guy who monitored your travels through time and used this insight to create the chaos in the alt-future (war = money).

No it doesn't make sense, but time travel rarely has to in order to be interesting.

really nice idea =D, but I got 1 question... How will you use all the fighting styles learned in the final boss fight? Seems rather unintuitive to switch midbattle from, say drunken master style to shooting from cover.

Sounds ok, but everyone will wonder why you couldn't just go back in time and kill the main boss when it was born.

Edit: I also demand a pirate stage.
As for that: perhaps the time machine can only move through time, but not through space, so that you'll always end up in exactly the same location in relation to some point of origin (center of the earth?), but in a different time period. Then again, that limits the fighting styles to be learned to that one area.

Edit: Why William Wallace? Your character sides with the English in this?

It's quite simple, for some reason preventing the boss from being born, or killing him at an earlier point in time will cause some incredibly important event not to occur thus destroying the entirety of space/time. Time paradoxes, and the reasons for them are nearly infinite in possibility.

Switching combat modes/styles can also be overcome, it's just a matter of a structurally complex, but simple to use combat system. Maybe something similar to how the crysis suit abilities are activated an inner wheel with 4 major disciplines/styles that branches out further. Of course something like that would be far easier to control and use with a mouse and keyboard than with a console controller, but I'm primarily a pc gamer so that's how I think.

It might in fact be a good idea to go back to some legendary person in the past that actually allows you to learn a skill or two bordering on the supernatural, or similar to a buff that would effect all the skills within a discipline. There's actually room for a rather involved and somewhat revolutionary system here. The real trick would be taking the bulk away from the interface so everything is easily accessible.

Then again I've been thinking voice command inputs for systems like this, are far overdue in gaming, and certainly within the technological abilities of both modern consoles and pc's. I only know of one real instance of their use so far, and it was just poorly implemented

I think that the idea of a voice command system would be awesome. It would be really cool to be able to fight people by calling up an abilities list with your voice and selecting an attack.

Ex: Saying something like

"Combat" ---> "Kicks" ---> "Flying Roundhouse"

It would make such detailed combat so much easier to control.

I don`t know. To be honest, I think the game seems to be a little repetitite or would reach a stage where is becomes repetitive. Go back in time, learn new moves, defeat boss, go back in time again e.t.c. I think you can do something much cleverer than this. I really like the idea of going back in time and playing many historical levels though. But I am afraid that I would like more out of this game than a repetitive formula for each stage.

I think you are on to something, but could make it a lot better.

No wont work an if you want to include space and time then trie some thing that doesnt involve earth and humans. Be some sorta god like creature , Solar lords would be mint theres 13 sons of god u choose 1 and play through as that character giving you 12 different play throughs
mega powers and over the top bosses you could start out as a lesser adept and upgrade to adept then solar lord Ultimately needing to combine all 13 powers to defeat the final boss.

This is good for and Acarade game. But time is quite the thing. You can't go into the past and kill things you'll ruin the future as we know it.

first off, im not a dev so i wouldnt now how to make the transmition between fighting styles more fluid, i like the voice command idea that was mentioned. or if its on a console, the right button (R2 on PS3) opens a list of fighting styles and the left button (L2 on PS3) opens a list of your weapons. but if you had voice command you could simply say "open weapons" - "select katana", "open styles" - "select samurai"

in answer to why you cant kill the boss by going back in time, the boss was created as a result of your time travel. due to some time paradox, your need to defeat him resulted in his creation. interesting enough?

a pirate stage would be awesome, as i mentioned william wallace. im actually scottish and i think it would be awesome to learn his skills, possibly the best warrior in history (although he is allegedly fictional).

it would also be pretty cool if you had a two-way decision in some of the stages that effects the next stage, ie in the middle ages you can choose to unite scotland with england or you can help them on thier way to FFRREEEEDDDDOOMMMM!!!!!!!! if you choose to free them you must invade castles etc and willaim wallace teaches you his skills and gives you his sword. but if you defeat scotland you have a one on one dual with wallace and you dont get his skill or his weapon but you get an alternative prize from the king of england. although the more you alter history from what we know today, the more it messes with the future and effects the final battle

there could be some nice little historical facts at each stage, like in COD4 when you die you get different facts about warfare and quotes from historical figures

my freind is doing games development and i think ill give him this idea
