My idea for a new Fallout

Earlier today I had an interesting idea for a new Fallout while I was playing New Vegas... But now I can't seem to remember what it was.... Oh, there it is.

I imagined a Fallout where you play as a Ghoul. For the opening of the game (Imagine the beginning of Fallout 3 in Vault 101) You start of as a normal human being 200 years ago, on the day the bombs fell, going about your daily life. You'd get up, have little errands to complete that would serve as a tutorial to acclimate you to the game, and then at mid-day the nuclear holocaust would hit and you would have to flee for shelter as the shit hits the fan around you. The screen fades out as you enter your shelter, the glow of the fires outside leaking in... Fast forward 200 years to the present Fallout universe, with images and soundclips to represent said passing of time... and thats as far as I got. :< I can't think of what would go next.

Anyways, how does it sound? Do you fellow Fallout fans out there think it would be any good? And what do you think would go next?

In (original) fallout lore that would piss off a lot of people. Remember, Ghouls are not just normal humans. There are bits falling off, and muscle atrophy. Some ghouls are so crippled they can't even fire anything bigger than a handgun. A lot of ghouls cannot run very well. Its restrictive.
I've had the thought of playing as a ghoul myself, but I agree with this. It would cause way too many gameplay problems for the player.

Furthermore, most of the gameplay of Fallout3 and NV would be off limits to a ghoul character. It would be impossible to fool the NCR just by wearing their faction armor, and you wouldn't be able to just waltz into a town and start talking to people, since a lot of people would be prejudiced towards you.

Even though the choice of playing as a ghoul would be awesome, the game would probably just end up consisting of hanging out in some abandoned metrostation or sewer somewhere.

Maybe make it so ghouls can sort of evolve as you level up? depending on which skills and attributes you have you can turn into a somewhat super mutantish creature, or you could turn into a frail super brain. It could be little more than just an aesthetic part of gameplay, but it would still be awesome!

EDIT:
Fast Ghoul - If you specialise in lock picking, hand to hand and a movement speed boost (possibly faster reloading?)
Super Ghoul (big frame) - Specialising in Big Guns, Melee and get an endurable boost
Skeletal Ghoul - Explosives (hehe that is where their flesh went), energy weapons and its harder to hit you, but you get hurt more when you get hit
Frail Ghoul - Big starting bonus to Science, Medicine and Repair at cost of STR and END
Shadow Ghoul - Stealth, Small Guns and running doesn't affect your stealth ability

You know...not sure if it was a bug or not, but I've seen ghouls in the NCR. In one of the outposts.

Anyway, these arguments are good. Playing a ghoul would basically make a lot of people hostile to you since sometimes ghouls are shot on site. If you're a glowing one, you basically irradiate everything. Chems don't really work on them and if you play with a mechanic like Hardcore, then you can break the game easily since they eat and drink very little.

A Fallout that takes place in a city of ghouls or something around that, it would work, but it would be much more restrictive than a normal exploration based one that we got used to.

I'd hate a game to mimic my life.

You know what'd be an even better idea for a new Fallout?

One where creatures don't spawn in the floor, then spazz out and make me switch the game off.
One where characters don't stretch randomly on death, spazz out and make me switch the game off.
One where people's heads don't spin on their shoulders, and make me switch the game off.
One where the isn't a million different bugs per square mile of the game world.

If you haven't noticed, graphics glitches scare the crap out of me :)

Sounds like the perfect setup for some sort of stealth-based spinoff to me. You can't handle well in a fight and there's a lot of, for lack of a better word, racism against you causing people to want to lynch you. Therefore, don't get seen.

I want a Fallout where every single person in the world other than me isn't telepathically linked to every other person. I try to pick one guy's pocket...ONE GUY AND I FAILED...all of a sudden every person in the whole city knows what I did, knows my exact location with perfect clarity (and aim) and wants to kill me for it.

And I want people to stop whining about glitches, they're always bound to happen.

Actually come to think of it, Fallout 3 has never bugged out on me, must be your obsolete hardware.

Yeah, and I want companies to release games without bugs and glitches...I don't think Santa's gonna be good to either of us this year.

"This playing-as-a-ghoul idea goes against official Fallout canon. You are a heretic and must be executed! Its the only way to preserve the purity of the Fallout universe."

Got your answer for you:

I'm curious why you're frightened about graphical glitches. It can be a bit unnerving the first second or so, but I often find it funny once I realize what's going on.

Anyway, a Fallout game where you play as a ghoul would be interesting. It would probably pose an extra challenge, what with most humans treating you like a freak.
