My idea for a Terminator game

I was just commenting on another thread about difficulty in games, and I said that I loved going through games as an indestructable killing machine, as it was more fun that the cover based shooters we have now, so then it struck me that the Terminator frachise would make an awesome video game, I checked and the only recent Terminator game of note was a crappy movie tie-in with a 4 hour campaign and nothing else to it.

So why do we not have a proper AAA Terminator game, it lends itself so easily to the video game style, and it's an already established franchise, so it would be easy to get funding.
I don't know how the campaign would go, (the current video game loosely followed Term. Salvation, but it was apparently crap) Maybe you could play online with a group of friends, and have to make your way through a city crawling with terminators, like left for dead, but I had loads of ideas for the multiplayer.

You could have large teams of humans verses a small group, or single terminator, the less terminators, the more powerful they are, and the soldiers can disorientate the terminator with small arms fire, (for the player playing a terminator when they are hit the screen goes static and their accuracy falls greatly) but small arms cant destroy it and the humans have to hit it with something harder to destroy it. There would be a limited amount of heavy weapons, maybe one rocket launcher, with two or three rockets, or a few explosive charges, that can be thrown a short range, hidden and detonated remotely, or blown up suicidally in close combat. The terrain would be completely destructable, so if all else fails you could try and shoot a building down onto a terminator. (it would take several explosions to kill one) The terminator would have a limited time to kill everyone, so the trick would be to lure him into traps and blow him up there.

There would be several game modes, a deathmatch with a large team playing as humans, and a small team of terminators. You could have a Firefight type game where your team of humans have better weapons, a respawning ammo cache, and have to defend a small area from ever stronger terminators, which could be controlled by other players, that keep coming until you are all killed.

What do you think? and other ideas can you come up with for it?

That sounds like it would a nice change in the multiplayer world but I'd really want to relive the movie experience of "nothing kills these things" during the singleplayer.

Hell yah, and please, let's have that terminator 2 minigun. Although, as strong as the terminator is, dual wielding M249's wouldn't be too far off...

I dunno. I kinda like the one terminator several humans thing but... it needs something more than just he's the tough guy. Crysis(Or farcry?) and a whole bunch of other games have that already.

The hold and defend thing has the same problem. They's just be metal zombies like the COD mode. Throw in a new mechanic or a different take on an old one and you'll have something.

Like when AvP was good way, way back in the mists of time we'd play a team deathmatch with one alien Praetorian that could become a Queen, two predators (one being me) and five marines. It was gold.

I wish Bethesda would remake their 1990 DOS game, simply named The Terminator. It came out the year I was born, so I didn't really get a chance to even know of its existence until Wikipedia and some footage on YouTube. Before I found that out, I actually used to think a Terminator hunting you down or you trying to escape from one in a sandbox environment would make an awesome game. Turned out someone had a similar idea a long time ago.

It was apparently THE first attempt at a Terminator-licensed game. And, as we've come to expect from Bethesda, it was ambitious as fuck. They 3D-rendered central L.A. for the setting, completely free for you to roam, you could play as either Kyle Reese or the Terminator, buy/steal weapons and drive cars. It was clearly ahead of its time and held back by the technology available at the time. If this was made with today's technology and with the same obvious love for the source material, it would be the ideal Terminator game for me. Bethesda did develop 3 more games set in the Terminator universe, but they all had linear, focused, mission-based storylines all set in the future war.

I just find setting a Terminator game in the time of the war kinda boring. There's really nothing else to do except blow Terminators up all the time until they stop being threatning to the player. The reason a Terminator is scary, is because it just doesn't fucking die. It will not stop until it finds you and fucking murders you. You know, 'cause that's ALL HE DOES!
And it's so much more scary when there's only one of them and you don't know where. Brings a whole survivor horror element to it. I never want to *get used to* killing a Terminator.

A 1980's or 90's (doesn't even have to be L.A.) setting would be so much more interesting and most of all, *alive*. I mean, the Terminator universe's post-apocalyptic wasteland is not a place you'd want to wander around freely in. And we've seen that it's empty. There's nothing left out there except for the machines. A lot of them. It's boring. It'd just make me want to fire up the time machine and just do the goddamn time warp already.

Anyway, I want a sandbox survival horror Terminator game. Someone please make it =P

I want a terminator game where I play skynet.
You know, go all RTS like and build death robots to wipe out all the humans.
