Okay, as we all know by now, the ending to the hotly anticipated "Mass Effect 3" has not been as satisfactory as we would have liked. In fact, given the level of bile I've seen being thrown at it, I think it may even go down in history as being one of the most reviled aspects of any game in the entire history of the medium.
But as for me, I'm the kind of guy who doesn't like to criticise unless I can honestly think of something better in it's place.
So then, here is what I would have liked to have seen as the ending of ME3, based entirely on my choices. If you see something here that differs from the choices you made personally, don't take this to mean that I think my versions of things should be more valid than yours. It's just how I myself would have liked things to end.
As you may have guessed from the title, this version of events contains a few spoilers. Those of you who haven't played through the game yet but want to, turn away now.
So here goes:
The combined fleet gathered through the game manages to overwhelm the Reapers, giving the Crucible time to do what we wanted it to do, send out a wave that wipes out all other Reapers in the Galaxy.
But the Citadel and mass relays survive the blast, no destruction for any of them.
There's a massive celebration by all the races involved wherein Commander Shepard, who survives the game, is treated as a hero by everyone he knows. He's offered a seat on the Council, but refuses, saying that the life of a politician is not for him.
The Citadel is returned to it's previous place in the galaxy and reconstruction begons on all the damaged homewords attacked by the Reapers.
In recognition for their efforts in helping to defeat the Reapers, the Geth, Quarians and Krogan are all offered seats on the council, which those races accept, thus helping to maintain peace between them. Admiral Raan represents the Quarian, Eve for the Krogan and the Geth are represented by the Prime that speaks to Shepard after the Reaper on Rannoch is defeated.
The Krogan are united under Wrex, who begins work to help his people recover from centuries of damage by the genophage, which is now cured.
Garrus, due to his efforts in helping to save both his world and all others, becomes the new Primarch of Palaven, and begins work to help further ties between the Turians and Earth.
Ashley begins to lead her own squad in Alliance missions, helped by her new second-in-command, James Vega, who is himself shaping up to be a fine potential candidate for future Spectre.
EDI and Joker, now decorated as heroes alongside everyone else, continue to serve as pilots of the Normandy in future Alliance missions, all the while continuing their romantic relationship.
Javik, having now fulfilled his purpose of avenging his people, at first finds it difficult to re-adjust to peace. But eventually finds a place on the Citadel, where he serves as both a teacher to those interested in the now-extinct Prothean race, and as a military advisor to the representitives of various races.
Liara continues to speak to her fathjer and the two become closer, with her work as the new Shadow Broker continuing to make things easier for those who wish to use that knowledge for beneficial purposes.
Cerberus, as an organisation, collapses save for a few turncoats who defected because of the Illusive man's continuing descent into Reaper control. They are currently awaiting trial.
Admiral Hacket now serves as humanity's representitive on ther council, with Anderson (who survived) having been elected to lead the Alliance now that their prior leadership was wiped out in the initial Reaper invasion.
The Rachni, in a gesture of good faith by the council for having helped against the Reapers, are given a new world for them to live on. Although wary of each other, both sides continue to maintain a shaky peace.
And as for Shepard, the hero of the day, now tired of fighting, retires from the Alliance military after his recovery. He now accompanies Tali (whom he romanced) back to her homeworld Rannoch to help the resettlement of her people, as well as to help foster relationships between them and the Geth. The two settle down on that spot of land where Tali first saw the sunset of her world, and the two eventually build that home that her father once promised to build for her.
Bit of a sappy ending I know, but it's what I was hoping for.
If you have an alternative versions that you would have liked to see, do not hesitate to tell me. I'm very interested to see what kind of ending you would have preferred.
