My Life Rocks

Extra large four cheese pizza, all three Die Hard films, the apartment to myself for a week and a half, a day off work tomorrow, and six gigs for £40 a go lined up for the next month and a half.

My life, for the first time since I left university, has absolutely nothing wrong with it. I have a job, I have a girlfriend, I'm getting more and more known in the Belfast music scene, I'm writing fiction again, with a book ready to be published on Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing on the 17th of February, and two weeks ago I reconnected with one of my best friends, who I haven't spoken to for nearly a year.

So in order to share my happiness I thought I'd make this topic. Why does your life rock? It doesn't have to be perfect, but what in your life is really really great right now?

I would ask for no one to mess this up by going on about how their life is nothing but misery and pain, but frankly I know the Escapist community far too well by now for that.

It's like asking them not to grow hair.

The only majorly good thing about my life at the moment is that I have an offer to study Natural Sciences at Cambridge University (Churchill College), so if I meet the grade requirements (A* in A level chemistry, 2 As in others) I'm one step closer to my dream career of theoretical physicist.

I just figured out how to log into my university's servers from any computer in the world, which is going to make trips to retrieve files a lot less frequent. I also successfully cloned a mouse gene into bacteria this morning, and will finish sequencing that tomorrow. Also it's snowing and I have no commitments this weekend,
and lots of fun things lined up to do.

Being positive was hard and I did not like it.

You did? Congratulations! Except... why Churchill? I mean, I know it has a lot of scientists, but it's a long way from the city centre and lecture halls, and urgh, that 1960s architecture. There's not many colleges I can walk around without cringing at the ham-fisted additions they have. I guess I'm just a snob in that regard. At least it's not Girton. No one wants to go to Girton.

OT: It's snowing, I've got a relatively free weekend, my friend is coming to visit me next weekend, and I just had an awesome burger.

Why? This is why.

Nah, I'm happy. Got a good family, good friends and an amazing girlfriend, what more could I need? :)

When I visited it was very quiet and out the way compared to a lot of the city center colleges, which is something I like, and like you said, it has a lot of science students so I guess I'd fit in there better. Also it's quite near to maths and physics, it's just chemistry I'd have to travel a fair bit to get to, and I'll probably only be doing chemistry for my first one or two years.

Still, Cambridge is Cambridge whatever college you get into i guess xP

Edit: Forgot to mention, I do regret not applying for one with amazing architecture, because I was taken aback when I visited Trinity/Kings college, but I guess if you lived there for long enough you'd get used to it.

True that. This is coming from the guy who picked his college because it was pretty and didn't mind if I came straight there, rather than taking a year out in industry (Downing, by the way). Also, it helped that it's a five minute walk to my lectures, so I can roll out of bed at 8:45 and still be in time for lectures. I am incredibly lazy like that.

Well though I can't say I'm particularly happy right now [small](Though that's mostly because the game I've been playing lately puts me all sad and depressed, stupid game why can't I stop playing it if it makes me so sad?)[/small], I must say that well I've recently started talking with my family again so that's pretty good I guess, also I recently decided to start doing my favourite thing ever which is wandering around the streets just admiring the scenery, I can't say that the place where I live is actually pretty but I'm pretty easily impressed so I enjoy walking around the streets and occasionally falling asleep under a tree quite a lot, it may not sound terribly impressing or exciting but really there's hardly anything else in the world that makes me happier than that, sometimes simple is perfect I guess.

Congratulations! I'll try not to solve everything before you get there. No promises.

OT: My dissertation took a turn for the greater today when I stopped thinking like a mathematician and found a more physicsy solution. Screw analytical methods, let's look at what's really important.

My friend applied to Downing for maths, but got pooled because there was only something like 6 places for Maths in Downing, then Robinson instantly made him an offer :p (Robinson is the one made almost exclusively out of red bricks), so he got thrown out of an amazing fairy tale looking college into an almost industrial looking one xP

congrats on doing so well

I think right now my life is the best its been for many years, Im not stressed about anything, what I mean by that is before there was ALWAYS somthing stressing me out, gnawing at the back of my mind (that assignment I havnt done, my parents on my back about my future) now its just get up, go to work, finish and enjoy myself

I have a good job, I have money, I have a nice place to live, I have all the fucking games I could possibly want/buy

I have so much STUFF that ive always wanted

I'm indulging in all the stuff I couldnt when I was younger

and for the first time in ageis I'm actually happy with ME, I dont stress about being a loser because it turns out Im not

granted its not perfect, theres stuff I need to work on, Im hoping to get back into doing some creative stuff and improving, somtimes I wonder what the point is but then I figure its the most productive thing I can do right now, and I should perhaps work on my non-existant social life

so yeah..its all good

Electronic and Electrical Engineering (hopefully) at Queens University in Belfast, hopefully...
I...

I actually work for Queen's University Belfast. It's a small world after all.

I was actually at the Electronic and Electrical Engineering building the other day (I hate the Bernard Crossland Building personally, I think it's an eyesore) I was talking to them about their international strategy. It's a really fantastic school.

(Sorry about that, but I am a Marketing and Communications Assistant, you can't blame me for selling the good stuff.)

As it turns out, I'm actually getting an extension on my contract because my manager wants to give me more responsibility and pay, my pizza was lovely, thank you for asking, I've just finished watching the last of the Die Hard movies, with no scratches or interruptions, and I'm sharing the apartment with my father because I've only been here about three months. Although he does drink more than me I've never actually seen him throw up once...

Hope whatever's going on in your life gets better though.

Just celebrated my first year anniversary of hooking up with my GF.
Is starting work with some friends on our own game.
Got the controls of Psychonauts to FINALLY behave themselves!
My GF got me back into pokemon, and my Nidorino FINALLY went from "meh" to "actually useful!" (poison jab, AND earth power, and now he's a nidoking!)

And that's pretty much all the good stuff going on.

As for bad stuff...Well, my stats class is a pain in the ass, and the Canadian government is trying to ram its own version of SOPA down our throats while not listening to us...and that's pretty much it. Everything else is either good, or great.

The usual reasons really. I'm more or less healthy and I have a good group of loyal friends.
But glad to hear your life is going well OP.
It's a refreshing change from the usual attention seeking 'my life is shit' threads that usually inhabit these forums.

Just got home from vacation in Mexico. So I'm feeling pretty good about life. Also the week off of school that went along with the trip didn't hurt either.

Sure, why not? I'll share my happiness too.

Things were bad in Florida so I had to leave and move back in with my parents in Texas. So yet another new town and I have no one and nothing here. But now, I'm actually starting to enjoy college and going there and I am finally making friends and having a social life. I am more motivated to work toward my career ever since I met my girlfriend and I feel that I can do a lot for myself and my girl if I keep pursuing this. My girlfriend is the best thing to happen to me in 7 years and because of that I am happier than I've ever been. And on top of that I'm becoming free from my religion and becoming more comfortable being Agnostic.
