Looks fun! Although I wonder why Celestia's sending her personal student to deal with the problem instead of the secret police or something a bit more sensible.

Also, Luna; you know what happens if you don't trust the Purple One. Have a little faith, baby.

Looking forward to seeing people take the story WAAYYYY to seriously. I'm not kidding that's stuffs funny.
Like how Discord is the most evil villain in existence, despite being a palette swap of Q?
Yeah stuff like that. It's like when people try and say the Phantom menace was good it's just funny.
Did you just compare My Little Pony to the the Star Wars prequels?

While the Villian intrigues me, I want to know why Luna seems to look down upon Twilight so much, especially after she had helped her twice now.
Well they're hardly Marvel Studios when it comes to continuity (time traveling Cutie Mark Crusaders anypony?) but most likely it has something to do with the plot that is reveled latter.
Yes, Yes let the hate flow through you. If it makes you feel better I meant it in the way that it is what it is. And trying to deny that is funny.

Well I just watched the first Discord episode, and whilst I wouldn't say it was bad, it's just not for me I guess. Discord was pretty cool, but the main ponies were still pretty boring to be honest.

But hey, different strokes for different folks. I'm certainly not a hater anymore anyway.

And that's all that (most) people ask for. I haven't really kept up with ponies, other than a few fics, but it is nice when people don't rage at other's about it.

Ooo. Always appreciative of more Luna screentime. And I have a feeling that shot of Celestia using dark magic is going to light a few flames in the 'Celestia will turn evil at some point' camp, which to be honest, if it happened, I'd laugh.

The song... Egh wasn't for me. The lyrics were very, on the same wavelength as the 'big brother' song from the season 2 finale, could have done with some better lyrics. The music itself was great as always. But, 'egh' really sums up my reaction. I've seen another song from season 3 I thought was far better so it's okay if some are hit or miss.

Nice preview. I hadn't thought about MLP in a while and I was wondering if nothing substantial was going to come out anymore. But this looks like a good kick off to a new season.

I'll watch it when I have time.

Ok this does it. I'm not watching MLP anymore in the hopes that it will get any better. I mean I know I sound like a troll when I say this but for 2 seasons I've actually been keeping up with the show and trying to see what the fuss is about and aside from 3 episodes I'm not impressed. The show is just too cheesy.

For instance:

Celestia: He was ultimately overthrown and turned to shadow and banished to the ice of the artic north.

Me: Ok, that's cool I guess.

Celestia: But not before he was able to put a curse upon the empire. A curse that caused it to vanish into thin air.

Me: Interesting...interesting.

Celestia: If the empire is filled with hope and love, those things will be reflected across all Equestria.

Me: DONE!

Yes I realize this shows primary demographic is little girls but that's not what boggles my mind! What perplexes me is how so many people in my gender and age group are going gaga for this stuff. I've been trying to understand it for about a year now and I think I'm done trying. I'm sorry Bronies of the Escapist but it's just not meant to be for me. I just won't understand or join you but nor will I hold any enmity for you...and I'm cool with that.

I don't see why the whole 'Use love and hope to save the day' is much of a leap from, say, 'Use guns to save the day'.
If another show had the exact same plot, but the characters used something less cheesy than friendship to solve it, it'd be the same plot but with a little less cliche. What's the big deal?
And you don't have to like it, as an animation student I get a kick out of the fact the show's animation is a lot better than most western 2-d animation. The rest of the show is all-around pretty good too, in my opinion.
You gotta' admit, they must have done SOMETHING right to get such a massive fanbase.

All I can say is how much I'm loving the hate Luna seems to express when Twilight get's sent and not her.

Discord is actually pretty tame compared to Q. Q actually got people killed, at worst Discord pulled a few cooky pranks.

So when does this season start? I don't really keep up pony news or anything, its just something I watch before going to class.

Also nice to see this topic hasn't devolved into a shit storm yet. PROGRESS!!!

Discord certainly is a Q expy, but that's more or less what was expected. I don't mind, so long as it's fun to watch. He wasn't or isn't the "bestest villain EVARR", as this indicates perfection. Even Heath Ledger's Joker has one or two niggles. Perfection is not of this world.

And yeah, the whole "Love and friendship and tolerance fixes everything!" leitmotiv really is a clear indicator that no matter how many references they'll pack in, the target demographic remains little girls. That's perfectly fine. I mostly tune out everything concerning dialogue, plot or story structure, and keep watching for the sake of going "Hee, Big Lebowski ponies!" or "Hey, look, a Dini Era Batman reference!" at some point.

Now if someone could talk to the DiscoPie or DiscoShy shippers and tell them how utterly implausible both of these pairings are, that'd be awesome.

I'm not watching that, or reading potential spoiler-filled comments! 8 minutes is way too much spoiler at once!

With the praise MLP is given I expected it to be far more clever and intelligent with it's writing, you know, like Adventure Time? Adventure Time has such a huge, connected universe with a complex web connecting everything. Almost everything new has also been shown or hinted at in the first seasons, showing a great deal of thought put into the whole thing. Now I am watching this MLP clip and my first thought is: 'Of course this is all about something huge no one has never heard of before'. I kept waiting for Celestia to say, "because we needed to pull something out of our ass to prolong this cash cow". haha WOW! And the new villain is just another banished baddy who was turned into [insert thing here]? This could have been so much better, or maybe I am just spoiled now with Adventure Time that my standards are impossibly high.

Well that provided little besides the framework for the two-parter and a song leaning more towards the "miss" side of hit and miss that MLP songs tend to occupy.

Just saying, to all the newcomers expecting this clip to be solid-gold and enlighten them as to the appeal of the series, you're not finding it here. The fandom in general greatly exacerbates the quality of the show, it's a decent show at best and painfully cheesy at worst. The fandom makes this show more than what it is. It's an okay show, with some okay writing, songs that are fairly hit and miss (This Day Aria was wonderful, Flim and Flam's song was terrible), and pretty decent and colourful animation. That's really it, a better than average show, not the second coming of an animated christ like you would think given the following.

True it is rather cliche like how an action movie is cliche in solving the conflict in the story but that doesn't make how MLP solves it's big season openers and finales any less lame. I mean that's cool and all how the show champions such a great life quality but in the real world, friendship and love can't solve everything.

The thing to understand is that the primary demographic of pre-highschool girls will always come first when it comes to what will go into the show. Bronies do certainly get consideration (like making Derpy canon), but they will still only come second before little girls. This limits how mature the show can be and for me thats a deal-breaker. I'm not making a big deal about how the show is.

However, I do make a big deal on WHY exactly the show is so huge with my demographic (adult male). I'm not trying to like it but I am trying to understand it's popularity. I mean I see that the show has great animation (especially considering that it's done in Adobe Flash) and it covers aspects of friendship that is usually untouched by other kid shows and how the characters are more dynamic than most kid shows (which doesn't say too much) but it still baffles me that guys my age are going gaga over it. Maybe I just have the wrong mindset to like or even just understand the show. Maybe I'm just too cynical and jaded to really "get it" like Bronies do.

I concur though I'm not sure if you mean "exacerbate" or "exaggerate". Either way you put my views of the show in a nutshell.

So is that clip indicative of MLP? I watched the first episode and thought it was pretty crap, but I had people saying the first few episodes are nothing like the 'brilliance' of the rest of the series.
It's still better than most of Adventure Time, though. And I say that having watched all four seasons.
