I removed my mother from facebook because she kept bringing up every last thing that I said or 'liked', and treating it as though it reflects my personality. She thought it was funny and angsty that I would delete her.

Those things happen? Wow, I thought this one episode of South Park was exaggerated. Honestly, if you and your mother have nothing else to worry about but who adds who on Facebook, be happy...

older people take that kind of thing more seriously and literally than the younger generation, by declining her friend request it says to her you don't want to be her friend, and that can be quite hurtful to a parent. especially of a older kid like urself, on the cusp of adulthood making their own decisions she just wants to be ur friend. and was hurt.

I can't believe anybody could take facebook seriously. Do people really use it for anything important? I've got like 15 real friends who I can contact by phone and rarely do by facebook, and 70 friends on facebook (small potatoes compared to people I've seen with hundreds) and I haven't talked to most of these facebook people in YEARS.

Normally I'd agree with the "just do what your mom says" crowd, but over something like facebook, it just seems really stupid.

Well she obviously takes facebook "a bit" too seriously if she thinks you don't love her for not adding her on facebook. Yes, it's too harsh, but maybe you should try to explain to her that it's something you do with your friends and not with someone as close as your mom because you see her every day anyway.

I think its fair that you dont want to add her. I definately wouldnt add mine, I'd feel like I had to censor every status update I made! May I also point out that that is the most ridiculous Mother/Son argument... EVAR!

This reminds me of a recent southpark episode... I don't think your obliged to add your mom. But if you've already have a lot of friends, adding her wouldn't cause too much pain to your status, I guess.

so long story short me and my mother got into an argument because i have not added her as a friend on facebook and because of this she wants to take away my internet. She argues that i dont love her anymore and that i shouldn't say anything on facebook i dont want her to see, i counter with i do love you and i am allowed to speak freely with out fear of punishment i went on to ask her if she had ever kept a secret from me she replied by staring at me and then walking out of the room. So escapist do you think i should allow her on my facebook? or should i be allowed to speak freely with out fear of punishment?
oh and i am 16
Jesus christ. It's Facebook for Gods sake!
Tell your mom to stop over-reacting and realise it's just a social network site.
Speak freely without fear of punishment.
Things like this are the reason I don't have facebook.

What is she, fucking 12?

Maybe she's just got that "I-really-can-be-best-friends-with-my-child" syndrome.
