A point of referance may assist her. You can tell her THIS sorta thing is what the "proper crazies" listen to:

Inevitably when she asks how you even know about this, just tell her that her accusations made you want to find a legit example of 'devil music' to illustrate the difference and asked the internet. With a bit of luck, she'll feel responsible for putting your soul in harms way and won't bug you any more about your media for fear you'll find something worse.

----

In honesty though, I'm mainly posting this because I think it's hilarious how seriously some bands take their schtick and like sharing the weird.

Tell her to grow up. Music doesn't damage the "soul". "Sin" does. Music isn't a sin. Although, it was a couple of hundreds of years ago depending on which sect of christianity you adhered to.

Communication can be a powerful tool. Do you think it would help if you explained the source material to her? Would she be willing to hear you out if you told her that the music is meant to establish the proper tone for a story's antagonist instead of a tribute to supposed demonic powers?

If not, you might want to consider headphones.
Explaining to her what the songs from would probably make it worse.

"Whats the song about?"

"Oh, its the theme song of a gay looking one wing demon who stabbed a girl through the tits."

Everyone has there own opinon and if you are living at home you'll have to respect hers. Dont play it while shes around, or get headphones and take care of them. If you want to do what ever you want you'll have to get your own place for that. If you start becoming more hostile or acting spolied thats just gonna "prove" her point that the music is a bad influence.
This.

Stop rebelling.

If I was doing something that worried my mother, I would stop and explain to her what something is and why I am involved in it.

So you should explain, in a very condensed manner, what Final Fantasy Seven is about.

First, explain that the series is name-only, and thus FF7 is completely independent from the other games. (That confuses a lot of people new to the series)

Then explain that the main character's primary goal is to stop the evil megacorporation, Shinra, from sucking out the planet's life force and converting it into a source of energy. Then go on to explain that Sephiropth is the product of Shinra's grab for power, made from their greed and JENOVA, a supernatural force of destruction (and implied evil).

The experience of the game pretty much consists of traveling throughout the world, enlisting help and gaining knowledge from the places yet untouched by Shinra (Like Cosmo Canyon, that... ninja place, thing) and helping the few good people you find in the places that are industrialized.

Its half "Save the rainforest" PSA, and half "Greed leads to evil and destruction," which in essence is a very Christian moral. The rest of the content is mostly stuff conventional of the JRPG genre or direct from Japanese pop culture in the 90's. Like those silly outfits some of those characters wear.

You should also take the time to explain a bit about Nobuo Uematsu. That he is an incredible compositional talent and writes all sorts of music in different genres.

The main theme of the game certainly can change someone's tune:
Start from 1:50. That's where it gets really good.

He's not my favorite video game composer, admittedly; Paul Remero's theme for the Holy Griffin Empire just sends shivers down my spine. But that same song has both an English [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wOChmjXQYjg] and Latin [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=86Y447mzPV0] version.
HoMM uses the theme of "Good versus evil" with humans and angels fighting against evil demons and monsters often in the series, so the Latin is appropriate.
Still, for gameplay purposes, the Latin one works better (and was used in the official release of Heroes of Might and Magic 5) because most players do not speak Latin, and thus hear it as an element of the music. Hearing people speak can be a bit distracting when you're trying to think.

Cheers.

One additional advantage is the tracks I shot you aren't guitar / rock based, but have a very direct message / image / tone and are well creepy. If rock/metal/etc like Disturbed is your fix, there's an obvious distinction there between comparatively wholesome rocking out as a band with instruments versus my suggested disturbing, sludgy, ambient, grimdark, too-spooky-for-the-room-noise-incantations. ;)

All that said, I've got a prankster's mind and get weird kicks from exposing people to bizzare media, but if you want to do something more mature and constructive I think Erana's got the right idea.

im gonna be honest
i DID try to explain to her about some of the music i listen to but she just doesnt listen
she just says "you lost me at game" and the brushes me off.
most of the time i only listen to stuff like this when she out the house and its a case of me getting shouted at to turn it of, im the only person in my house that dosent blaze the music so people down the street can hear it, as opposed to the ghospel/funkyhouse/rnb that i HAVE to put headphones in just to hear my music properly.

im no saint, but i dont like it when i keep my stuff to myself and people still have a problem with it.

but i guess i can try once more
thanks for your comment now i can think this through propely

A- Invest in headphones

B- Looks like mission accomplished on the part of nobuo uematsu

C- Does your mother know anything about music at all? If the ans is a no(which I'm convinced will be the case), next time she does the same thing, try to sound arty-like you're really into the music scene and all and make it sound appalled at her lack of taste in music. After all you can explain that this is the amalgamation of metallic sounds and classical tracks in a sort of musical experiment, thus taking the art of music to the next level...yada yada yada...you know like you're a connoisseur of fine music and so on. The key is to explain that it is an artistic expression.

Still, i believe by "hurting her spirit." she means it's too loud. Really tone down the volume or go for option A, invest in headphones. I'm pretty certain it has absolutely nothing to do with spirituality or whatnot, but more a case of she finds it too loud.

Its a shame she won't listen if you're trying to share a little bit of your world with her. And while knowing more about the game may not change her view on whether that specific song is demonic, she would at least know the context, and that the whole affair isn't singing praises to the devil, or anything like that.

Still, there is so much really wonderful video game music that she wouldn't find offensive; perhaps you'll be able to be able to bridge your and her interests with them someday.

The point remains that you put in a sincere effort. Stopping to explain why you like something and what makes it worthwhile is how anything gains acceptance. You may have been unable to do so here, but keep it up.
If you have something genuine and well thought out to say, then at some point, she'll listen.

At least, she has a far greater chance of listening to a respectable explanation than mindless rebellion. I mean, she's reacting this way because she doesn't understand. Doing more things she doesn't understand and will react even more strongly to will just make things worse. (No matter how damn tempting it can be when you're frustrated with someone)
