My nephew just rage-quit MG Rising. Ah...

My nephew has been crowing about how "beast" he is at Metal Gear Rising (kids these days don't know their adjectives), so half an hour ago I made him bump up the difficulty to Normal. Half an hour later, he quits out of frustration because he can't figure out how to parry. (Easy Mode gives you an automated parry.)

Now, it would be wrong of me not to feel some small amount of guilt over getting him so riled up, but at the same time, my heart swells with the hope that next time he plays this game, he'll actually pay attention to what the game is telling him and learn some of its nuances.

Other rage-quit stories? Your own or those of people you know? I know those of you in the FGC have a few salty stories to tell. Come on, let's open up our collective gaming wounds, shall we?

I rage-quit 'Condemned: Criminal Origins' about halfway through the game. After dying about ten times in a row, I finally beat a very difficult fight, only to get gunned down by an enemy that popped up out of nowhere and forced to start the difficult fight all over again. Practically the only thing that kept me from throwing my controller was the fact that I did not have the the eight hundred and fifty to nine hundred dollars to replace the living room t.v. and my wireless controller.
I was so pissed off by the game that within five minutes of turning the game off I was taking it up to GameStop to trade it in.

Its not so much a rage quit as it was a rage admit defeat. I played Wolfenstien: The New Order and...it was alright...maybe its better on the new consoles than it is on the PS3. But I got to the end of the game and got to the final boss fight with Deaths Head. Worst boss fight ever. I know what I needed to do to beat him, but every time I damaged him, the room filled with fire which made it almost impossible to kill him. So after 2 nights of trying and failing to kill him, I had finally had enough and did something I never do. I turned the difficulty down from my usual 'normal' to the easiest setting and super murdered him with everything I had.

It didn't feel good. But I was so fed up with the game by then.

Also, Demon's Soul's...I have a love/hate relationship with that game. I love it, but I hate that I am so bad at it. The first time I played it I got nowhere, rage quit and deleted the game data vowing never to play the game again. A year later I have forgotten my pain and decide to try again. I kill the first boss, but then try the next level and repeatedly get roasted by dragons. I rage quit and delete my game data vowing never to play the game again. Fast forward to this year and I decide to try again. This time using a guide, I get a bit further, this time killing a second boss but then on the next level I am doing alright but then get killed by a random prod by an enemy. It was my own fault for not healing when I should of. But I stopped there, I don't have enough time these days to play a game for hours and not get anywhere. I didn't delete my game data this time, I will be back.

Something about super murder is wildly amusing and new to me. Like an entirely new degree of murder.

That aside, the last game I rage quit was Ghost Recon Phantoms. Imo the game wasn't balanced or entertaining once I got tossed into the general population from the newbies.

I know a few years ago I was blitzing through the Bloody Palace mode on Devil May Cry 4, got up to floor 98 (out of 100) before it all went wrong for me. The results are shown below...

I was also playing through that laggy piece of shit Titanfall. I guess after an hour or so, the fact that you can't hit anyone for the lag but somehow keep getting sniped by campers kind of gets to you. The results are shown below...

Wooty I think you should maybe talk to someone or something.
Well, the 360 is better off like that and if you don't keep buying expensive keyboards then rage destroying wont be an issue. lol

My little brother was much the same when he played it, he was utterly shit. Thats just the way some people are with games and puzzles in general though. They give up when it becomes too difficult for them. I don't think that sort of thing really heralds the doom of difficulty in games though, there will always be people who appreciate a challenge and those who just want to switch off their minds and get told they have succeeded with minimal effort.

I rage quit street fighter A LOT (but not online before anyone gets stressed). Before I got decent at the game and owned the super version of SSFIV, I got so angry I rage quit took out the disk and bit into it. Its a miracle my gums and lips were unharmed because the disk sort of exploded.

I threw a PS2 controller once into a pillow when I was playing some X-Men game. I'm very good at controlling my emotions.

Early Dark Souls 2 always makes me rage quit at least once. Especially since I've beaten it before, so some of the unfair aspects I can't deal with accurately yet just make me even angrier than the first time I went through it.

I've rage quit League of Legends on occasion but in the sense of I'll wait till the games over and not come back to it for like a month.

There are some champions I just can not deal with laning against no matter how many games I play against them and it can be infuriating at times.

I was forced to play the sequel with not being allowed to use guns unless game forced it. Now that was hard to do on hard difficulty. So only twice I could use a gun. Once on a rail and then to shoot a helicopter down.

oT: I've rage quite quite a few games but I've never thrown my controller or anything. I would hate to have to replace em constently over rage.

Out of curiosity, which part(s) are you referring to? For me the first few areas are some of the more fun when doing a new playthrough (It's once I get to Copse, Harvest Valley and Earthen Peak I start to get a bit bored, but once I slog through those I'm fine (PVP bridge ftw!))

OT: For me it might just be Hearthstone (I know right?). Playing Arena, doing fine, 5 wins no losses, then suddenly I hit a wall where my opponents draw/have the perfect cards to counter any play I make for 3 straight losses, it's infuriating... It's even worse when they turn the game around by top-decking a card that annihilates your board/big minion/kill you. I dunno how many times I've died to a Mage that top-decked Pyroblast when I was just under the 10hp threshold...

My room mate plays FIFA...
Well he was in the last game of the season, needed a draw to win the premierleague, he had taken a team from league1 (third highest division) and was in his second season. He was dominating the match and had chance on chance on chance but couldn't score. 90th minute and a little over, 4min overtime. He concedes and the team that was second had a 2-0 lead in their match...
The xbox controller is no more. Flew straight into the wall and into a million pieces. He rages quite a lot when gaming but that was the harshest when I've been around.

Demon's Souls was one of the first games in a long time since the NES era to make me ragequit... Admittedly it was mostly because I wasn't fully comfortable with the control scheme in the beginning and had a bad habit of button mashing which usually led to my cliff-walking doom in heated fights.
Hearthstone is also close to doing that to me, mostly because I've not put money into that game and am suffering from the free-to-play nature of getting ass-handed on every level of said game.

It does bear pointing out that a good part of that is that MG:R has one of the worst parry systems I've ever encountered in a game. It's far more finicky than it has any good reason to be.

I think the only time I ever rage-quit a game was Metal Gear Solid 2 on the hardest difficulty. During the Fatman fight, I kept losing, and it didn't help that two of my siblings were being really annoying at the time. I usually get on really well with my siblings, but between them and the constant defeat in the game, I got really angry.

Me, I often rage, but I always stay until I beat the boss and THEN I rage quit. Whenever I actually rage quit, it feels... just horrible.

Spec Ops: The Line on FUBAR difficulty is just the worst. I normally do not rage during gaming, but FUBAR... oh my gosh.
The part where one of your squadmates is sitting next to a crashed helicopter, constantly yelling at you to protect him...

Not only was it incredibly annoying to constantly hear the guy's pleading for help, the game also throws some of the most infuriating enemy types at you. Shotgunners, assault rifle-wielding guys who never come out of cover unless you stick your neck out first, and to top it off, a heavy trooper. How is that supposed to be even remotely enjoyable? After the fourth time in a row where I managed to kill almost everyone, only to be insta-killed by the heavy, I was just so done with that game. I uninstalled it in disgust and have to this day never felt the need to come back.
