***SNIP********* to fix them before I can attempt to rebuild my shattered collection... [/tortured metaphor]
Lost saved games is no reason to use that word is it?
+ SNIPage
Don't mean to be rude, I've just never found that word particularly offensive. Apologies to the offended.
I don't think it's a "warranty" exactly, it's just that if I've tampered with the system (broken the seal on the case, destroyed the serial number, modified the hard drive, etc.) they won't extend the repair service to me. I think the warranty actually comes from the retailer and they just cover the costs Sony would usually have billed you. It's just $150 straight up to fix any problem and ship it back and forth, for simplicity's sake I guess (maybe that's the average cost of repair? I dunno).
Now, when my PS2 broke (given, that time it fell on the concrete and internal parts clean snapped) I found myself unable to even fit the pieces back together when I had failed to repair it. I don't even know what a heat gun
is and I'm loathe to risk having no system and having to replace it with a new one. Besides, my system is one of the last of the line to feature the full (well, mostly. MORE full at least) backwards compatibility. So for $150 I'm right back where I stared (plus a few years) but if I gamble my technical skills and loose, I looking at upwards of twice that for
two new systems if I want to still play all my games.
