My Rant at IGN's Final Fantasy Rant

I just watched this video from IGN.com-

-and I have a number of problems with it. It's clearly jumping on the Yahtzee/ AVGN bandwagon. Now this I'd be fine with if it weren't for the fact that:

1.) having the editor point out annoyances that just about every gaming forum has already done so is highly unoriginal.

2.) it's quite obvious the guy doesn't believe a word of what he's saying, unlike Yahtzee who actually puts some conviction into it.

3.) Yahtzee/AVGN are creative and adds a high does of humour and entertainment their videos.

4.) this video is on probably the biggest gaming site on the web that makes millions from sucking up to all the major titles/ companies so it's just downright bizarre to see them pull up such a video.

5.) Yahtzee/ AVGN are LIKEABLE people, whilst this guy comes off as nothing but an annoying douche.

I'd get it if this guy is deliberately immitating some 14 year-old forum troll, but it's not coming off as anything other than ignorant and annoying to me. I find it infuriating that whilst sites like The Escapist have made a name for themselves by making a collaborative effort to supplying a creative, alternate videopoint of the gaming industry, IGN make such stupid, half-arsed attempts and seems to think we'll buy into it.

I've sent my email to hatemail@ign.com stating "if you're going to rip off Yahtzee can you at least be more original?". Scott Bromley says he'll personally respond back to all emails so I'll keep you updated on whether he does reply or not. In the meantime, can I ask for other people's opinion? Has anyone else seen it or responded?

Wow, that guy is a douche. Does he really think it's funny to point out that FF characters all look like girls? Everyone who's ever seen a trailer for a FF game has made a joke or comment about that.

That would be like if I became a stand-up comedian, but centred my entire act about Arnold Schwarzenager being a governor. It's old news!

When has the Angry Video Game Nerd ever ranted about final fantasy? Nonethe less perhaps this guy thoroughly enjoys the final fantasy games and they said "Hey let's do a satirical take on final fantasy haters" so he said "I'll do it".

Besides, I think half the reason they did it was to envoke the rage of nerds who would respond via email or rant videos and threads. Like for example YOU!

I'm pointing out the fact that AVGN and Yahtzee have made a fanbase by expressing a severe hatred towards games of all kinds (not a specific series), and they do it entertainingly.

Besides, I think half the reason they did it was to envoke the rage of nerds who would respond via email or rant videos and threads. Like for example YOU!

Er, no, he was trying to envoke rage from fans of Final Fantasy. I'm enraged, not because I disagree with his statements, but the fact that he's a rip-off, and it's all too nausiating and unstylistically done. Considering this is from a site like IGN that has money poured into it from left, right and centre, I expected better.

Plus its a joke, its so supposed to be funny, not to be taking seriously, you must have your head stuck up yer ass so far. (and being FF fanboy, you have nothing else to complain about)

I don't like the Final Fantasy series.

So I guess you'll be one of the "Little nerds that get upset"?

I thought it was funny, which is its only aim. It isn't because I hate Final Fantasy - in fact its my favourite set of games.

The reason I find it funny is because

1) I can acknowledge differing views
2) Can take a joke/don't take everything too seriously

I honestly haven't heard his comments in forums (bar s/hes and turn based fights which are legitimate complaints) and thought it was an amusing video.

Kudos on e-mailing them, I'm sure it will get the intended message across.

He hasn't. I think the point was more that they're trying to imitate his style since he's a million times more informative--and it's really saying something when a guy who can't go two minutes without making a scatalogical joke is more informative than you--and steals their ratings.

Flamboyant isn't the word I'd use. Flamboyant implies tendencies associated with stereotypical homosexuals; Final Fantasy dudes just have no texture to their face and occasionally look like they're wearing makeup. Except their villains, they're often flamboyant, but then [a href="http://findmeapirate.com/Pages/Captain%20Hook/Images/captain%20hook%20disney.jpg"]what villain isn't[/a] a little bit? Really, this just comes down to Square's character designers' weird stylistic aesthetic indulgences.

The best thing anyone could've done is not send anything to his e-mail. This way they will see that no one gives a toss about his opinion and it will be less likely that he will make another video.

Yes but the reasons you posted are invalid, THE WHOLE GAWD DAMN VIDEO is a joke, not to be taken for serious, but is a joke on everything.(FF, rants, and comedians) and this is why he made this video, because of people like you who makes rants that shouldn't ever exist.
