What? A significant part of my day is spent hugging! It's all part of a cunning ploy to make others feel really awkard, thus allowing me to appear dazzlingly charisamatic. AHAHAHAHA!!

Besides, hugs rule.

Just get a pact with every other guy in the school that says every time a teacher walks by in the hallways you all have to find the nearest guy to you, and embrace them tightly whilst singing 'Guy Love' from Scrubs. Keep doing this until they just give up.

Passive resistance ftw.

If you can't hug them, kiss them instead.

But seriously, that's just retarded. Get out while you're still allowed to form original thoughts.

My school has made a few pretty bad decisions in the recent years. we all do exams a year early and over 1 year (despite them being made for 2 years and most universities only accept 1 years worth), firing all but 1 geography teacher, not letting pupils use a gate to go home/to the shops at lunch (for food) and cracking down on full-contact sports.

but now, they have taken that final step. SMT[footnote]Senior Management Team[/footnote] has snapped.

we arent allowed to hug any more.
or, more specifically, guys arent allowed to hug people. because theyre insane.
and no, i am not making this up. one of my friends got a warning for hugging another guy.

so Escapists, i ask of ye, what are your opinions on this?
and has your schools SMT ever done something this insane?
My old school had a strict no hands on policy. We couldnt hug either, which was raging bullshit and ended up in more headaches for the teachers then it was probably worth.

Isn't this quite commonplace in schools in the US?

I don't know, it just sounds familiar to me.
I'm glad none of the schools over here enforce anything remotely close to such a policy.

So, am I reading this right? Guys aren't allowed to hug anyone, or guys aren't allowed to hug other men?

If no people at all: Way to promote gender stereotypes. "Men are supposed to be MANLY HUUURGGGGNNNNNNHHHGHG!!!! *breaks a rock with his forehead*"

If only men: Way to discriminate against people who want to show a bit of brotherly love and all the potential not-so-brotherly-love between men. Because all men are straight and spend 100% of their time chasing girls and showing how not-gay they are.

Is your school from the 1930's?

All this for a High School whose average class size...WAS TWO HUNDRED AND TEN.
Holy shit were they terrified of lawsuits. I couldn't even play my GBA during lunch breaks because it was "interfering with class". No joke.
Is that meant to be small? Because that's about the number of pupils in my entire school.

OT: I don't see the issue. Tell me how many teenage boys are willing to be seen hugging another. It's silly sure, but hardly end world.

I recall my own High School undergoing Prison-Transformation:

1) Replaced all of the reinforced glass doors at the top and bottom of the stairwells with these blue "fire doors" (which turned out to be the same model of Riot Doors as used in a regional federal prison; only with the Kevlar lining removed). Not only was it unnecessary, but also far more dangerous as you couldn't see if someone was going to open one of those doors at the top.
2) Hired a new "dean" (vice-principle) specifically for disciplinary actions; DESPITE ALREADY HAVING TWO WHO DID THAT.
3) New "dean" subsequently appointed a set of "wardens" to patrol the hallways and lunchroom
4) Outlawed all manner of clothing, and made the requirement for "shorts" to go at least 3 inches PAST YOUR KNEES.
5) Banned all manner of PDAs and touching up to and including HIGH FIVES. But handshakes were ok apparently...
6) Enacted an ordinance that required at least one police officer to be on the school premises at all times during regular session.

All this for a High School whose average class size...WAS TWO HUNDRED AND TEN.

You win the authoritarian cake. Can only be eaten between 5-7 pm with a desert ladle.

But that does seem pretty harsh, and my school really couldn't give a fuck about student contact, yesterday, I had a friend (lady) grab my leg in the middle of a corridor and wouldn't let me outside until I said the 'password.'

Funny you should say that, considering his profile shows he's from England and that he made no mention of nationality at any point in the entire post.

OT: You should lead a revolt against them by going on a hugging spree.
It'll be great, you can lead small groups of students across a yard, disguised as regular students when suddenly AMBUSH!
You start hugging people left and right, others trying to run away in fear futilely as you call in your reinforcements to go for the runners.
Then all you need to do is send a letter to the people in charge, telling them that you WILL hug again unless your demands are met.

my school has the same idea
on the last day my friend and his girlfriend were caught hugging and one of the female PE teachers started asking him WTF he was doing and he told her that they were just hugging and after a looooong "chat" she asked so do you see what you were doing wrong and he said "no" and the teacher phoned his parents, now remember this is on the LAST day of school before we got off for summer.
most other teachers dont enforce it but other people have been caught smoking doing drugs and full on making out but one hug fuck that your parents will hear about this!!!

twats...

My school has done all of this for as long as I can remember. No hugging allowed, no contact sports, no leaving premises, year early exams and the option to do exams in one year. (For instance, I'm in my second year of A levels and I'm only 16 years of age.)

My school did that just before I moved on. I can't speak for your school, but there was reason in mine. It was being exploited by little children (ala the 12 year olds) so they could smoothly go from good touching to bad touching.

Start a hugathon, they'll be so fucked, it'd be hilarious. Just get groups of people to always hug, or a huge pack of people to hug simultaneously, like everyday 20 minutes into lunch or something. That gate this is bullshit, I don't really understand the exams business, I did exams from Years 7 though 12, and I never had a problem with it. Also don't really understand the geography teacher business.

But yeah, rebel with the hug!

The exams thing isn't that bad, my school made us do all our A-Levels in the final year. Which meant we had no AS levels when applying to uni.
They only just changed that policy, and without so much of a word of apology.

The hugging thing is stupid though - I used to try and hug my teachers!

Fuck, I'd be expelled within a week. Between me and my friends, a hug is standard form of greeting.
