Portal, or CS:S I know, i've been ninja'd
CS:S? Are you insane? The players there are insanely skilled, or most of them are.

What about TF2 in terms of shooters go? Even when you die it's often hard to rage. Teach her the ways of rocket / sticky spamming, then eventually teach her that it's wrong when she gets better, and move her to more classes.
TF2 sounds like a splendid idea, though I would have to learn to play to, I've never played before.
And I would start her off slow, with games like TF2 and bots on CS:S then move her onto more, "hardcore" gaming.
Actually, learning together will probably give her a greater appreciation for gaming.

Portal. I just recently bought it for my little brother and he's been obsessed with it. He's eight.

I don't think it would be too hard for her, either, as long as you sit with her while she plays and help her if she gets stuck. (While explaining exactly what you're doing and why it works that way.)
Yeah kids love portal, my brother was eight when he got his hands on it and he finished it in something like 4 hours, one sit. 100% attention.

Try Minecraft, put it on Peaceful and see if you can get friendly map seeds. She'll get used to controls and probably enjoy the FPS format.
Yeah, she likes Minecraft, but she likes the more fast paced gameplay. And well she doesn't really grasp the idea of mining in specific ways and that of the such.

Thanks for that, I seem to push her a little to much sometimes when she looks up in the air, but she got over that quickly after I explained to her, "would you do that when your going to school?".

So I guess Portal would be my main choice first. I love the CIV games and I'm deffinetly going to introduce her to them.

She shouldn't be playing "M" games. That means Halo.
M=Mature
"Mature" does not mean that you are 18+, I could be more mature then an 43 year old.
She is mature enough to understand the difference, knows that it's just for fun, and that she wont be doing it for competitive reasons until she's older. Swears are no problem, she listens to heavy metal and some rock bands.

Your sister is starting to sound pretty awesome.

Platformers are best for her, also older games that are side scrollers.
Try and find kid friendly games, I had the same problem with my brother by I got him some crappy film rip offs on the PS2 like Kung-Fu Panda Platformer and he's fine with that.
After that I'd recommend older titles of fps games. I played CoD 1 when I was younger, and I literally went through the campaign more than 50 times. You should give her a shooter game that has a "gore off" option, a bit silly but she doesn't need to see blood at that age or she'll be used to it. After growing on shows like Dragon Ball Z, I have a very high tolerance for gore, but it comes with its disabillities.
In conclution, Kid Platformerss and Racing games.
You should introduce her to both the keyboard and a gaming controller (PS3 or Xbox, whatever does it for you.)

Get her Reccettear. The game is sweet, she oughta be able to learn economics in no time with that game. That, and kids probably eat this shit up:

Also, for PC FPS's, try Quake or Tribes.

My sister and I got our start with DOS platformers and 2D shooters. The original Duke Nukem, Commander Keen, Crystal Caves, Major Stryker, Raptor, Jazz Jackrabbit, Jill Of The Jungle, Tyrian. You get the idea.

Why not start her on some adventure games? The most accessible one I can think of off the top of my head is Beyond Good and Evil. It is certainly appropriate for all ages, serious enough for the older players and whimsical enough for the younger ones.

I suggest Portal
once she's a bit older I'd suggest TF2. strong teamwork element ad a lighthearted atmosphere. but I'd wait till she's older due to the abundance of meatspin sprays on some servers
maybe some point 'n clicks as well. Back To The Future comes to mind. a bit of swearing, but if she can watch the movies, the game should be fine.
also, some of the indie things. like Chime or AAaaAAaaAA!!!!- A Reckless Disreguard for Gravity

I have a hard time believing a 5 year old is mature enough, sorry.

I hate to break it to you, but the world is different now.

M Rated games are awesome, and here's what i'd do:

Start her off easy. Maybe Pokemon, Mario, stuff like that. If I were a parent there would be no way in hell i'd let my kid play Call of Duty, Bioshock, or some other FPS.

As she gets older, you can start introducing her to more mature games like Metroid, maybe the original Doom.

Then just let her grow, and introduce her to different games in the process.

You don't want to have her dive into a sea of gore, shooting, drugs, sex, and crime.

Believe it or not, that stuff can scare kids. And that's a good way of making her NOT want to play video games.

Do pokemon and Mario games. Wait till she around 8 before you start letting her play the heavier stuff. Although if you're doing this for laughs get her Amesia: Dark Descent.

Psychonauts is so perfect in this regard because when she gets older, then she'll get all the jokes.

<3 reccettear

Also have you considered emulators?

Get a pc game pad and perhaps some of the old pokemon games (gbas) or some of the snes games.
