The only part that baffles me is that it took the mother six months to notice, I get a bank statement every month and have a look to make sure everything is as it should be.

then again.. she is from SE England... you do get a lot of weirdos down there.
I would be outraged but to be honest "weirdo's" is a lot more polite than what I would call the people around here.

Man oh man. When I was a kid, this is how the conversation would go,
"Mom, I want to get something but I need a credit card."
"Sounds good. Get a job and get a credit card and you'll be all set."
"Awww..."

It is unfathomable to me, the idea of my parents when I was 11 years old paying monthly for things like world of warcraft or xbox live, had those types of things existed.
I thank them for it too, as it taught me to take the idea of credit cards seriously, and to truly appreciate the luxury of buying things off steam, for example.

I think it's unfair to just blame this on the mother. Sure she should of taken her details off the kids xbox, but still, just because the kid's 11 it doesn't mean it's not his fault, you cannot let him off for something like that. I mean, what kind of a mother would expect their kid to spend the huge amount of money.

This is why they sell the cards at stores with points etc, so you can do that for kids instead.

This sounds like the beginning of one of those trite movies where the kid has to get a summer job and learn about responsibility. In fact, that's exactly what should happen!

Honestly, I would prosecute my own child to the fullest extent of the law.
That would take care of that sassy attitude of his!

I feel bad for the poor woman. Even worse for the child, seeing as how he just proved to her that he isn't mature enough to handle money. Its gonna be a while before he is ever gonna be able to play again.
wouldn't that be ridiculously stupid?
I meant on the Xbox in general. Not on Live or anything.

Well, look on the positive side: she's trying to raise awareness of what exactly parents are in for when they put in their credit card information online (and whether it stays in the system or has to be re-typed every time) rather than suing Microsoft because it didn't warn her that her son was spending money or something like that.

This is bad parenting, she should have thaught her kid not to buy stuff, unless given the permission to do so.
Either that or the kid is real douche-bag.

I knew the premise of a credit card when I was nine, so the kid probably knew this all, but didn't realize that he had spent so damned much.

Reminds of a similar story showed here including Farmville.

I'm against the kid on this one. How can a kid be t hat stupid? He didn't think he'd be caught? I'd ban his console until he earns that money back.

Wow Strood is just down the road from me!
Sorry I always get a bit excited when something news-worthy happens locally, it hasn't been so since Gemma Arterton and before then Pocahontas.

On topic, I wou;dn't trust myself with a credit card linked to my Xbox, I'd buy everything.
