"She said Barclays and Microsoft have denied any liability over the bill, which has been paid. The Xbox Live account has now been closed."

It's ridiculous that she even asked. This is her and her son's fault, and no one else's.

Stupid parent and stupid kid. I'm not putting all the blame on the parent because they might not have known that the details get saved onto the Xbox but they should have taught the kid something about the value of money, casually spending £1000 is ridiculous.

I should hope the parent's making him pay back the money.

I refuse to believe this kid didn't know what he was doing, but I can see him not realizing how much he was spending over time because kids tend to not have a lot of foresight. But holy hell, six months? Does she ever PAY that bill? What ever happened to monthly statements? No wonder it defaulted. My parents would have noticed something right away!

Damn, The kids fault mostly. He should know that it was NOT his money and therefore he should ask! Okay, the mum must have all the sense of a hydrophobic olympic swimmer but I've never done anything like that, and neither has any of my friends OR their under 14 brothers!

Ground the little douche for life! I'm not sure if it's parenting or the kid was just being malicious, but I think he should have known at that age basically how a credit card works and that he was spending his mom's money.

Also, how the hell did he send over £1000 on games in 6 months!?

I did laugh, but I feel kinda bad about doing it.

...Actually, that's a good point. What DID happen to the monthly statements? Surely she should have noticed sooner?

The perfect punishment: donate everything he has x-box related to women's shelter. That way you'd give the machine to a good cause, and if the kid complaines he just sounds like a bigger duche

I would also like to increase awareness of fire being hot, water being wet, and snow being cold.

Uhh... I'm gonna sound like an old fart for saying this but: This is exsacly why virtual purchases are dangerous when they are done by kids. If it had been real money, say the mom gave the child her wallet or something this wouldnt have happened! When you give a 11-year old papermoney the child most likely will understand its worth, but with virtual purchases its much more obscure and the child may not grasp that its actually real money. Hell I'm 16 and i still have small problems with virtual purchases, and don't always consider money on my bank account real money. ( You won't probably understand but anyway)

How? How did he even rack up that kind of a bill on Live? Must've bought everything possible.

That's something like 120,000 Microsoft Points, which would be the equivalent of downloading an 800 point DLC 150 times. How does an 11 year old manage this?

Dear god... That mom sucks as a parent. Hopefully the kid got his xbox taken away... Not just as punishment, but because I despise the people on XBL who either scream "HACKER!!!" in their high-pitched voice, or are just too stupid to think of the end result of using a credit card on their xbox. I just drive up to Wal-Mart and get the cards with the scratch off stuff on the back...
I love the scratching off part...
No more scratchy for me... it's all just peel away :(

As for the kid, I would sell his 360 and all his shit to pay for the bill. That should teach him about the economy.
Amen, My friend...

Yeah, sell the little bugger's X-box, then sell him . (Rent him out to the neighbours for chores, not into slavery or for child sex stuff, ok?)
