Doesn't the government have better things to do?
Actually no. All governments sustain themselves off the tears, and broken dreams of small children. Besides if we don't start sending the "Squeeze Blood Out of a Stone" department to collect fines from unlicensed lemonade stands, how are we gonna get out of this budget crisis?

I am somewhat fond of my state thank you very much. At least we haven't (insert whatever the worst thing your state has done here) as far as I am aware.
Your lucky I don't want to say 9/11, because that would be insensitive and not even something my state did wrong (but I could still say it none the less!). But yeah living in New York isn't all that great either.
Your state didn't do it but your state is also where Bernie Maddoffs offices were so I can blame that on your state.

That sound you just heard was my mind shitting itself inside out, because of the sheer balls out lunacy of that story. That's something that I would expect to see from a movie parodying government regulation, or in Non-Sequitur. What in the hell were they trying to prove with that move?
That Ted Kulongoski is the craziest sunuvva ***** this side o the Mississippi. Or maybe it was a hilarious bureaucratic oversight.
So what position does Ted Kulongoski hold in the Guild of Calamitous Intent? Sorry with a story like this he seems more like a cartoon villain than an actual human being.

I actually doubt our governor did this. It seems like a mid level thing to me. Just proves that Satan works in middle management.

I would've just said fuck off to the inspectors and kept on selling. But that would probably be weird for a 7 year old to do.

I had a laugh reading the comments about how it's all the liberals fault.

OF COURSE! Satan wouldn't hold the lead position it's too obvious. He'd be a poorly paid bureaucrat, that explains why the D.M.V. always feels like the waiting room to hell. Quickly! Get the seven daggers of meggido, and head to to the state capital! The Anti Christ dies tonight!

Many jurisdictions have these sorts of regulations; there are generally also rules about busking and public performances. This happened in Central Park last year maybe. It's not a big deal. As a bonus, her name was Clemintine:

California is a little ahead of the curb here, most other states haven't caught up yet. *Very snobbish voice*

In all seriousness thats pretty stupid. Putting red tape all over a kids lemonade stand? How dickish can you be?

You know the most hilarious part of this little Satan direction this thread has taken? The capitol of our state is Salem. Coincidence? I think not...

I like how someone commented "When I buy Lemonade from a stand, I know everything won't be 100% sanitary but I'm willing to take the risk".
I giggled at that a bit.

The whole thing was rather incredible to read though, poor child.

Wow in one of the most progressive states in the country little girls are required to have a venders license. I live on the other side of the Columbia River in Camas so I'm in Portland quite often. I would be willing to bet it was some health inspector having a really shitty day, this was at a big event. Also the little girl really shouldn't have been there, it was an art fair which health inspectors patrol due to the restaurants and stands that sell food there.

know that i read the page

then i looked at the comments expecting good ole solid public condemnation of this lunacy (especially after the picture)

and the really sad thing is those have turned into a liberal Vs conversative "thang" rather than what they should have been and thus they won't shame anyone into changing a damn thing.

so the whole reporting of the story (and the comments) are all pointless.

wtf is wrong with these people that every single issue is a platform to slag off "the opposition" ?
Good point, I can't believe the single mindedness of some people. As if there has been a government at any point in history that hasn't had its share of beraucratic red tape and officials with ego problems.

But to be honest I cant bring myself too much against the inspector, in retrospect. It may look petty and unreasonable but if the law says all the vendors need a licence the inspector wouldn't have been doing their job if they let someone waive the requirement just because of their age. I don't know if that will get me some hate but consider if someone actually did get sick off of the lemonade and complained, revealing that the inspector allowed an unlicenced vendor to continue trading. There's looking out for the little guy and then there's putting your job on the line for no good reason. I can see the merit in looking into this law, but I can't find it in me to blame the inspector who is just trying to pay the bills and put food on the table like everyone else.
