"After 20 minutes, a "lady with a clipboard" came over and asked for their license. When Fife explained they didn't have one, the woman told them they would need to leave or possibly face a $500 fine"

Muahaha, that's right little girl. We're going to fine you more money than you've likely seen before.

That sound you just heard was my mind shitting itself inside out, because of the sheer balls out lunacy of that story. That's something that I would expect to see from a movie parodying government regulation, or in Non-Sequitur. What in the hell were they trying to prove with that move?
As soon as I saw your display pic, I thought 'insert comment about government over-regulation here'. Glad to see I wasn't disappointed (if this sounds nasty, it's not, I love Ayn Rand's novels).

This is just a case of bureaucracy overreaching common sense. I'm glad that the higher ups realized how insane this was and offered an apology, but I wonder if it would have happened without the major public backlash.

I saw an article not too long ago about a little girl who tried to raise money for charity by posting a video of herself singing smile while dressed as charlie chaplin. Sounds lovely doesn't it?

She received a cease and desist letter from the record label and the audio was removed.

Bastards!!!!

Write to the president ... invoke the peoples right to ... uh ... sell lemonade.

Well, little girl exposed to harsh reality of life. America wants its kids to mature and know their rights (or lack of it) as early as possible.

Although someone present should have asked the inspector if she enjoyed taking candy from a baby, cuz thats essentially what she did.

A man actually stood there and watched a 7-year old girl cry as he shut down her stand? Why? What could he have gotten out of that? "I'm just doing my job" really starts to lose it's merit when it involves emotionally scarring small children.

What do health inspectors do, exactly? Wander around looking for places where people sell food and then smiting them on a whim? Or were they specifically told to target small children for shits and giggles?

Hasn't this happened many times before? I know this isn't the first time I have heard it. I believe it happened in New York and once before in Oregon. I know it probably happens a lot but doesn't get as much national coverage.

A local code enforcer here shut down a couple of kids' door-to-door birdhouse selling enterprise and threatened fines...because they didn't apply for the proper retail permits.

Suffice it to say, community outcry was rabid. What a horrible thing to do to kids, I mean, really.

And of course, the comments on that article make me lose faith in humanity.

Seriously, stupid red tape b.s. like this is just ridiculous, regardless of what your political beliefs are.
Yea pretty much where I am with it. It would be a different story if the girl actually expected to make 120 bucks off of it and was going about like a cut throat but being a GIRL and not a wall-street banker I have a feeling she just wanted to open a lemonade stand...

Kinda sick when things like this happen.

Of all possible things they could have done, why this?
Another reason why I do not really like humanity...

i think i saw something like this on a show called boondocks or something, a buisness man has a little 8 year old fill out a contract and ends up scamming her family out of a tone of money, i think this can compare. This just sounds like the plot of a cartoon.
