Hello!

First of all I would ask on the steam forums but alas it refuses to reconise my account on it for some reason...
Now onward to my problem:

A few days ago I turned 20 (Huzza!) and with my bday money/wage I bought a 28" Full HD monitor for my computer which so far is awesome for TF2 and such. But slight problem, when I go to play games such as Tropico 3 for example it spits the dummy and buggers up steam for some reason, when it does this it refuses to load the game and then when I try to go back and view the library in steam it doesn't display it on my desktop for what ever reason.

I have since then had to reinstall steam twice as to get it to work again but heres the problem, I'm rather fond of Tropico and I'm not entirely sure as to what is causing this.

What I do know is that Tropico is very picky with monitors as it refused to work on my friends computer due to him having duel monitors and my guess is that its refusing to work on mine due to the whole HD thing.
Vampire the masqurade also doesn't like it for some reason but I believe thats due to it being old and not liking Windows 7.

Do any of my fellow escapists have any idea whats going on or have experinced the same problem at all?

Thanks in advance :)

Maybe it's just me but I have never heard of a monitor being responsible for a game not working. Resolutions yes, but the hardware itself?

You got TF2, why do you need anything else?
*smacked*

I'm not able to help, I'm sorry to say. Steam just seems a bit thick to me, if I didn't have to use it I wouldn't since it can't hold connection to games for more than half an hour these days.
I'd say try defragmenting and verifying the game files, but that didn't do anything when my games freaked out. But if you got nothing else, I don't see why not.

i haven't had the same problem exactly, but whenever steam has been active after a recent update, my monitor's resolution changes everytime a screensaver kicks in: it changes to the resolution i have to run TF2 in and i have no idea why. I don't know if this is related to your problem but it could indicate a problem with steam and certain monitors or at least their standard resolutions as none of my steam games are compatible with the "normal" resolution of my monitor.

Try changing your natural resolution of the screen to 1280x1024, or something similar, nothing too extreme like your 28" screen is going to have (Majorly jealous of the screen btw)
Launch the game and change the games resolution from in-game, then change natural screen resolution back to normal.
(Not promising that it will work, but it's sorted me out a few times.I was having similar problems with MW2 when i first installed it.)

The steam forums require a new registration separate from your steam account

As for your problems it sounds like it would be more of an issue with resolutions then the monitor itself.

Will give that a try didn't know why I didn't think of that first, guess I'm to used to things going tits up instead of wee things like that :p.

You play Tropico?

High five!

I'm sorry, I can't help you. But I do applaud your taste in games :)
Why thank you kind sir, I did quite enjoy the first one so I thought I'd may aswell give these new developers a try and I wasn't disappointed. All I need to do now is wait for Dungeon keeper 3 and I can relive my childhood (The DK MMO doesn't count :p)
