In no particular order, as these 5 are all pretty close in terms of my never ending enjoyment -

1. Deus Ex - a pioneer, great gameplay, great story, great world
2. Chrono Trigger - best pure RPG of all time
3. Hitman - innovative, brilliant story
4. Vice City - pure fun, most complete GTA game imo
5. KoToR - Bioware at their best, best Star Wars story of all time

1) Mass Effect 2
2) Assassin's Creed 2
3) Halo: Reach
4) Portal 2
5) Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

I'm not going to bother explaining why, as if I allow myself to role with it I literally write essays for each of them if I gave myself the chance, and I probably won't be saying anything that hasn't been said by about several million other people anyway.

In case you're interested:

6) Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory
7) Mass Effect
8) Halo 2
9) Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood
10) Portal

1. Shemnue:
It's been my favourite game ever since I heard about it. At the time it just seemed so different and was a brilliant amalgamation of different genres. It's also got that tragedy of not being completed about it. Like the musician who dies and you wonder what could have been.

2. Hitman 2: Silent Assassin:
Again it offers you a lot of choice in what to do and can be fun on so many levels. If you want to roleplay the superhuman assassin you can. If you want to just go all guns blazing you can. If you want to dress as a postman and beat people to death with a golf club you can.

3. Metal Gear Solid 2:
My favourite of the series, mainly because its the one I've had the most fun replaying. Yes, it's painfully short and Snake is absent for a lot of it but as a game I've found it the most enjoyable and interesting of the series.

4. Final Fantasy VIII:
Another that's my favourite of the series, even if VII and IX run it close VIII has always had a place in my heart. I can remember to joy of rooting through my mums drawers in order to find it before Christmas. Seems to get a lot of hate nowadays, for some baffling reason. I love the story, I love most of the characters, I love Triple Triad and all the little side quests.

5. SSX3:
I've got to put this in ahead of things like Morrowind, San Andreas, Age of Empires because a few years ago whilst replaying I realised that I've played few games for such a period of time and loved every second of them. The characters are great, customising them is brilliant, the challenges have a nice difficulty curve to them and the courses are just insanely fun. Maybe it should be higher but I suppose FFVIII/MGS2 have others in the series to prop them up with.

5)ninty nine nights a fun little game from the 360 early days where you can play 7 different characters each with their own personality and well the combast was AWESOME if you have played this game you know what i mean each character has their own way of fighting and it introduced horde based combat where you go though a open linear world fighting hundreds of enemies at a time and it was my first game on the 360.

4)fallout 3, falllout 3 brought the fallout series out of the past and into the current gen console and brought with it a fun gameplay with a solid story with tons to do after you beat the game and the DLCs where god well most of them(mothership zeta sucked and anchorage could've been so m uch more)

3)portal 1 and 2 no explanation needed

2)halo CE,2,3 for bringing me into the shooter gnre and having a solid story that gets finished up in halo 3 and takes steps away from realistic shooters with no iron sights and it had a modest amount of guns in the game, one for every occasion instead of other shooters where you have 20 for every occasion.

1) drum roll please ok would you please step up onto your podium Sly 3 Hounour Among Theives
If you have played Sly you know it's a good game that upgraded and refined it's gameplay through every game and no 2 missions where the same (except the starting missions).
But whats puts Sly 3 up onto it's rightly deserved podium was that it was the first game i ever bought and i accosiate it the innocent time before school and life.
I could go on about Slys amazing gameplay and the variety of minigames disgusied as missions with deceptivly easy solutions and a plot twitst that left me very satisfied.

I made a list a few months ago of my top 25, but posting the list alone without reasons would be too little and posting it with reasons seems like too much work. As you started this thread though I'll just comment on your choices.

LTAshler said:
#1. Halo 3
For me, I enjoyed/am enjoying Halo: Reach a lot more. Firefight and co-op challenges is a real benefit. Something that irked me about Halo 3 was that the playlists everyone was given at launch were cut back such that people without the newest DLC couldn't participate. It's never good to take away options from players.

#2. Battlefield Bad Company 2
I put MW2 and B:BC2 in different categories as they're games with so many pro's and con's it's hard to reach a definitive answer over which is better. The vehicles in B:BC2 with friends has given me a lot more laughs though - even if our team-mates were cursing us for trying to perform helicopter to helicopter dives instead of helping in the fighting. This was 15th on my list.

#3. Mass Effect 2
Have to agree fully here. I missed the boat with the first Mass Effect, but hearing everyone's anticipation for the sequal lead me to pick it up and in turn play the second. Earned 8th place on my list.

#4. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Again another choice I like. Was 10th on my list.

#5. Age of Mythology
I had very little experience of this game. My graphics card didn't like it, and somehow the disc got damaged in the tray so I never got into it. That being said, Age of Empires 2 is taking 2nd place on my list - so I wonder where this would be if I could play it.

5) System shock 2 - BRILLIANT atmosphere, story, villain, .....

4) Half life 2 - BY FAR the best shooter ever.

3) SW:KOTOR - a story that isn't anything special, but it pulls you in and doesn't let go.

2) Deus Ex - I don't need to list the reasons. If you haven't played it, do it NAO!

1) Morrowind - just barely beats DX. The 1500+ hours I put into it speak for themselves.

1. Pool of Radiance
If you want to blame nostalgia go ahead but no RPG to this date has better encounters. We need a remake.
2. College Hoops 2k8
Just so addicting. Recruiting addicting, pregame stuff addicting, games addicting then you have the big dance. Rinse repeat. This is a deserted island game if there ever was.
3. Gameday 98
The first really balanced sports game. Ode to NBA 2k11
4. Shenmue
The best action RPG ever. So many try to do what Shenmue did and fail miserably
5. Baldur's Gate
I put it above Torment because its so replayable, and so charming. Such a complete game with a standard that Bioware hasn't met, but who has.

Mine in no particular order:

I would prefer this as my top 5 so if you allow series I go with this:

- Zelda series
- Final Fantasy series
- Mass Effect Series
- Mario all Mario games
- Star Ocean Series

If for the purpose of this topic I can't lump a series I'll go with, same as above no particular order:

- Zelda: Link to the Past
- Zelda: Ocarina of Time
- Final Fantasy VII
- Tetris (original), not necessarily one of my favorites but its a great unbeatable and has a great story as to why it was created
- Ms.Pac Man, she was faster then Pac Man and I liked the boards layout better, it also represents a time when games where designed to be fun and nothing more

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (most addictive Multi Player I have ever player)
Borderlands (The most fun I think I have ever had in a Co Op shooter)
Portal 1+2 (Both amazing for what they are, I don't think I could pick one over the other)
Mass Effect 1 (Greatest shooter RPG I have ever played)
GTA: Vice City/ San Andreas (Both amazingly fun sandbox games, with interesting little stories to go in between killing spree's (not to mention great detailed worlds to explore))

Special mention goes to:
HL2
Assassin's Creed (all of them)
BioShock 1
Dungeon Keeper 2
Age of Mythology
Call of Duty 2
Guitar Hero 2
HL2: Episode 2
Just Cause 1+2
Left 4 Dead 1+2
Tetris (what?)
Pokemon Blue/ Red version's

I think that's it.

#1: Zelda: OoC & MM - After a while you start suspecting it's your nostalgia goggles acting up again, but then you replay them and it's just as brilliant as you remember.
#2: Morrowind - Cliffracers are skooma-junking n'wahs.
#3: C&C: G & ZH - THE RTS. Haven't played anything else as entertaining in this genre.
#4: Perfect Dark - Laptop guns lol.
#5: Mario Kart 64 - Anything but 1st place is enraging. Trolling potential is off the scale.
