Shadowrun Returns, Dragonfall: Director's Cut (overly long titles!) actually revamped a good deal of the tactical mechanics of the game. Flanking is a LOT more important now, since it directly influences not only hit% but crit% (certain attacks now induce flanking status; there's also flushing from cover).BloatedGuppy said:Shadowrun, at least the most recent one, is an OK game, but is utterly rubbish as a deep tactical experience. The tactical game play is...cursory, at best.bliebblob said:Shadowrun returns and invisible inc. are the games I currently have my eye on for exactly the same reason. Mind you, I haven't played either myself yet. So by all means watch some reviews and/or trailers and judge for yourself if they have what you're hoping for.
JA2 remains the king of turn-based tactical games.
I'm playing through it now, after playing the original Dragonfall earlier this year; it's quite an improvement so far.
If they adopted that improved system to a broader series, or provided challenge maps (akin to Advance Wars, maybe), it could actually turn into a very solid tactics series. Sadly, I doubt that will actually happen.
(to anyone reading: no, I don't want anything to do with the Shadowrun MMO. Sorry, I hate MMOs. I hate grind. I refuse to play them now.)
