Just don't ever move the Xbox when the disc is spinning, like it's already been said, and if you ever need to move it, be *extremely* careful and keep in mind some games (Resident Evil 5, Fable 2, etc)
lol funnily enough, one the games that got scratched to hell was resident evil 5 ¬_¬
I know, right? It's so annoying- here I am, with the rented copy of one of the most looked-forward-to games of the YEAR and the thing gets scratched like you wouldn't believe JUST before I get that encounter with

Jill

in the game. I sent the rented copy back to Blockbuster, but it was the only copy available so I'm still waiting on the off chance they'll get one in that DOESN'T suck when it comes to actually loading the frakking game.

I moved my xbox once when it was turned on because a cable was twisted under it, I lifted one side barely 2 inches and heard a grating sound, the disk had a nice deep grove carved into it...thing is before it has fallen over from vertical to horizontal when my dog knocked it, it was fine.

This happened with 2 of my games, MAss Effect and Rainbow Six Vegas 2.

Apparently M$ could have fixed it, but it would have costed them a couple million dollars, so they decided to let it ship as is, and they ended up paying like 1 billion dollars for the whole red ring fiasco.

That doesn't make sense to me but hey, I guess it must to M$ since they knew about both the problems.

Basically, M$ is known for shitty ass products.

Fairly obvious! MS had too much money, and so needed some outlet for it... ;)

A sadly failed attempt to combine a DVD drive and a ninja-star shooter.

I've never really had a problem with my 360 scratching games but yeah, having the 360 vertical apparently antagonises the problem. Not to mention the fact that the disc drive spins so fast it sometimes causes time travel. Seriously though, that sucker will cut you. On a quick side note, whenever I see someone abbreviate Microsoft as "M$" I pretty much get this [http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2002/7/22/ms/] feeling.

Doesn't Xbox have HDD or something, you can store games you play more often there. I don't know I don't own any consoles.
yes but you still need the disk to play, it just lowers sound and loading screens
also, it takes up a load of memory

the disk thing? i have that with loads of games
its a risk you have to take with having a good console
[warning] NO ONE MENTION PS3 PLEASE (damn!)[/warning]
I don't get the point of downloading games onto the hardrive, you use up 8 Gigabites just for less noise?

i have my xbox 360 horizontal but it keeps grinding the fuck out of my games, leaves a circular scratch round it. 2nd time it's done it now :(

Is my xbox screwed?
I've located your problem... You're doing business with Microsoft.

It's a common mistake, it could happen to anyone... I have done it as well, but not anymore.

Simple problem. The newer Xbox's dont do that because there are rubber protectors on the part that scraches the discs (near the lens I think, dont remember where exactly). You basicly need a new dvd drive for your Xbox.

Happened to me too, but then my xbox red ringed so IU got it fixed for free.
Do something to your xbox to make it red ring, that way you won't have to pay for repairs.

Makes me happy to own a PS3, no problems. =)

This happened to me with Assassins Creed and Bioshock.

I do believe Game Stop has a thing which acts as a warranty to halo rings (That's what they call them I do believe) However, at the fear of saying no to subscriptions and pre-orders for ten minutes, I didn't ask about it.

Well, I have thought about switching, but:
a) My backlog of 360 games wouldn't work,
b) I can get pretty much everything on my PC as is, and LittleBigPlanet and the Team Ico stuff, whilst temping, aren't worth £400 (nor is the blu-ray player so long as I have SkyHD)
c) Team Sony have just been so unlikably argorant I can't stand the thought of giving them money ;)

Except Vista and the 360, I don't know what products you mean? The intellimouses they made are pretty good (Although I'm a Razer user), the 360 controller is pretty solid in design, and... that's about the sum total of the hardware MS makes, the keyboards they make are great, too.

Quite so. However, I don't think I will any time soon.
