i just bought an original xBox and have been playing Fable Lost Chapters for a while. Now suddenly, the screen just goes black and the console switches off, slightly confused i switch it back on and it not only switches off again but forcefully spits out the disk! that's when i started to smell burning, i pick up the console and turn it over to reveal there's smoke pouring out the back, i've blown all the smoke out the window via deak fan and left the xBox on the wooden floor to cool down but it will no longer work or respond to anything. My question- is this normal and if so, what can i do?!?!

edit: yeah alright, let's all make sarcastic jokes at interspark! i didn't mean to imply this happens all the time as part of the gaming experience! i was just wondering if this had happened to anyone else! let me rephrase the question, "Has this ever happened to your original XBox and if so, what did you do? preferably a course of action that involved fixing it!"

Wow, that question made me laugh more than it should. No, this is not normal behaviour and I would contact Microsoft customer services right now.

Nope. it's a sign that your thing is most likely dead. Really, red rings can mean hardware error, so I don't even want to know what smoke means.

Same thing that stood out for me as well. It's like saying 'my house is on fire. Is this normal?' lol

OT: I agree with the contacting if Microsoft Customer Services, or going to the xbox forums.

You've probably waaay overheated it.

I am sure you can complain to Microsoft, and they should give you a free xbox, since this is obviously a manufacturing issue.

I'm severely disappointed...

I was expecting Explosions, and I just got a little smoke...

No, I doubt that's normal, you can fix it by sacrificing a goat to the gods of Xbox and praying. After carefully crafting a pentagram out of goat's blood, take your phone and stand in the adjacent circle. Dial the tech support number and ask for guidance...

Or you can skip the whole goat part and just call Tech Support...

Of course that's normal. The nes Xboxes dispense waffles and blowjobs.

OT: You might want to look for a warranty for your xbox...

Only one thing you can do, really. Post it on youtube.

...have you tried turning it off and turning it back on again?

(I'm going to hell, I know =p )

Honestly though, this is definitely a serious hardware fault. The smoke damage alone will be irreparable with the tools available to you. You'll probably be able to get a replacement under warranty, if it's a newly brought machine. Just be glad you've managed to get the disk out!

Especially the originals.

OT: Where was the Xbox placed and how? Was it standing up with the games stacked next to it on a carpet floor or was it laying on it's side with plenty space at either side and on a solid cold surface? Either way, you should probably contact Microsoft. Other than that, you can only really prevent it from happening again.

Wait this is the old Xbox? So I'm guessing there is no warranty and you are pretty much fucked.
Then again it's old as hell and cheaper then dirt at this point, so just get 10 "new" ones, and when all those die out just frankenstein the working parts together.

Man, I don't know if you're kidding or something, but that was hilarious xD

If you're serious, I wish you goodluck. You'll need it.

I thought that, technically speaking, XBoxs dieing in clouds of smoke was normal by now?

Oh-so-helpful sarcasm aside: yes take it back to where you got it and get a new one. Or, if your PC can handle it, get The Lost Chapters for that instead; much better. Either way have fun playing Fable, great game.

Why of course its normal, aren't they all supposed to explode?

On a normal note, I don't think its MEANT to explde. I'm guessing your gonna have to replace it, considering its an old one the warranty has probably expired. That sucks dude.

.....throw it away?

Honestly the thing is toast. You may be able to find a store that does repairs, but if your Xbox was literally burning, then it's probably gone for good. Get a new one.
