Alright, I went to Blockbuster and they repaired it, cost me 2.50 but it will save me the 30-45 a used copy would cost me. *pops in disk and game begins to play* Yes! It's working! Oh glori- *disk cannot be read* GODDAMMIT!

Well looks like I'm going to Gamestop when I get back.

When they get those rings they're permanently damaged, my mom used to be a manager for a video/game rental store and this would happen all the time to discs.

Only thing I can suggest: Don't have your XBOX facing vertically long as that is the easiest cause for that. Always have your Xbox horizontal, it has nothing to do with balance but how the discs run themselves. It'll also make it a lot lessl ikely to break.

I can go one better than scratching a disk, my computer once blew up my copy of Yuri's Revenge. I was just playing a verses match against the computer when there was an enourmous bang from the computer and the game froze. I thought the computer had (violently) died, but I was able to quit to the desktop. I opened the CD drive the the CD itself poured out onto the floor; most of it was just dust, with a few larger fragments embeded inside the drive itself.

Half an hour with a screwdriver and pair of tweasers later, I'd gotten the biggest bits out of the drive and it was usable again, but the CD itself was way beyond any repair.

I was too shocked to be angry in the minutes after it happened, and by the time I realised I should be annoyed at my copy of the game being destroyed I was past the RARGH KILL stage.
I know this was probably infuriating for you but I laughed out loud when I read that

Yeah, the disk tray in the 360 doesn't have the best disign. If you move the 360 at all when its on it'll kill your game.
I lost a copy of Ass. Creed that way. I had it standing up on its side under a coffee table in the living room, when my dumbass little brother hit my 360 with a nerf baseball.
It made the most disheartening sound ever. It was a mix of a garbage disposal and a death rattle

There have been numerous issues with this ring scratching, the best measure to take is to get those disc protector rings to go around them. Unless it is a Microsoft game they will not replace it. You can also take the game disc over to your local movie rental place and see if they have a disc repair machine, they usually charge around 2 dollars a disc and tend to fix most issues.

Wax the disk with car wax, then install the game to your HDD so that it doesn't have to read the disk.

Problem solved.

(I install all my games anyway, since the xbox 360 is soo fucking loud, so a scratched disk is never a problem for me anymore.)
