Well, I'm waiting for the bigass giant robots to throw galaxies at each other.

Update 2: Okay, so a genuine rocket scientist whose name may or may not be simulations [http://twitter.com/doctoratlantis/status/6504652897] that would show how this phenomenon would be created, and it's a bit easier to swallow now. But ... I mean, come on, the guy's name is Dr. Atlantis! He's either an alien or a supervillain, and either way you know he's gotta be in on it.

I'm still going with the Spiral Power Giant Robots thing, though. I like it best.

(Thanks, Carnagath!)

Still does not explain how the "missle" managed to stay in the same spot for 12 minutes, while going completly haywire.... that's hardly possible.
If the missile is a long way from you and moves almost directly towards you (or away from you) it can produce such a spiral (see my link above)
well my question is this. now, granted, i'm only going off of the pictures (my work computer is a POS and wont let me install flash), but all the pictures I see have it in the exact same area, with the blue trail going to the exact same spot. even as it's dwindling away... now maybe these are all taken at the same time, or around the same time, but i've read this went on for 10-12 minutes. how exactly does that work, if the missle is constantly traveling? i'm just trying to make sense out of it, and like i said, i haven't had the opportunity to watch the videos yet.

"We don't know who struck first, us or them. But we do know it was us that scorched the sky."

I am pretty up for Dante's Inferno - probably a purchase.

Okay...wow. That is officially the weakest excuse for a cover-up I've ever seen.

I just hope they come in peace.

I really hope Funk is right about the Gurren Lagann-esque robot fight thing.

Though, considering Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann is a confirmed ten million light years in height, you'd think we might be able to see them.

If I understand it correctly then the blue plume is the last thing to appear (I am not entirely sure why that is though) so that would explain why it is in all the pictures...

Remember the rocket/missile is in the middle of the spiral and the spiral moves radially outwards from the rocket.

That is not a missile, I don't care what the scientist says. Yes, I watched the video, and if it's the same phenomena then the missile would've had to have been gigantic...

Dude, where is my crowbar?
currently being Commandeered by Dr. Freeman

i doubt a missile could last 12 minutes, miniature black hole ball lightning sounds more realistic

Why does everybody keep saying this lasted for 10 minutes most other sites i go to say it lasted for 2 minutes. i really hope it was not a rocket i would feel sad i finally thought the aliens thought we were ready to receive the knowledge of the universe.

If anything can warp the laws of physics, it's the unintended consequences of military experiments. Somewhere in the frozen north, a Russian Doomguy is battling fiends from another dimension in a secret research base...

I believe that was the first successful test of the Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device. I can't be the only one who thought it looked like a blue portal opening?

Really, I don't think it could have been a missile. A missile couldn't hover and then start spiralling in place for 12 minutes. It couldn't do either, the smallest bit of turbulence would send it off kilter. I'm calling Norweigian/Russian conspiracy on experimental weapons.
