Aeross, Rostrum
The lithe Krakari adjusted quickly to the desert heat but what he could not adjust to was the new brand of Krakari growing up on the frontier. They weren't as complacent as their northern brethren and the differences between the peoples were quite evident. They were taller, hardier and were fiercely independent. Even the colors of their feathers were darker, earthier in appearance. Aeross stuck out when he was inaugurated as Chief Adviser to the Governor of Rostrum. The Governor was a hardy Krakari in appearance and an even more gruff person when speaking personally to someone else. In a crowd, he grabbed their attention with his hands and energetic personality. Aeross thought his mother was a personality but Kharon was a political dynamo.
In the frontier, the race for a seat in government was more direct and akin to brawls rather than the cut-throat business dealings up north. It took Aeross quite some time to adjust to the radical change in demeanor and even though he was honored to take such a position, he questioned why exactly Kharon needed him. But, Kharon was more crafty than his brown feathers lead on. He would often say to Aeross that his family's white feathers would serve him well in the sweltering heat but Aeross couldn't quite decipher his intentions until he was summoned to a stone meeting hall for what seemed like another council meeting.
From what Aeross knew and what was provided to him by his mother, Kharon had been a troop commander for quite a long time. He was born fighter that was able to fit himself just right in the officer ranks of the new Krakari army just before the invasion of the Manor. His troops held the manor fiercely even when three armies descended on them. By the time the fighting was over, Kharon and his men were given medals of bravery by the Krakari High Command. Aeross saw several of these medals when he dined at his simple estate for a few times. Kharon curiously had no family to speak of as he was an orphan and his wounds sustained from the war had left him unable to bear children. His wounds did stop Kharon from traveling to Rostrum and founding a successful firearms business. It was in Rostrum that Kharon saw a new life ahead of him and the opportunity to lead once more yet he had a different air to him when Aeross saw Kharon alone.
"Aeross, thank you for joining me tonight." Kharon greeted Aeross with a simple wave of the hand. "Come sit, I need to talk to you about something."
"Normally we would take in the tavern so I must also ask why in the meeting hall?" Aeross asked curiously. Kharon only grinned at the question before answering.
"I felt that it suited the matter that I wished to discuss before you interrupted me." Kharon said plainly. Aeross was a bit taken a back, realizing that that he did just that. Kharon laughed before patting Aeross on the shoulder, nearly toppling him. "I'm just pulling your wing, Aeross. I was struck with an idea and I was afraid that if I left the meeting hall, I would lose it. If you want, we can go to the tavern. I know that you fancy one of the barmaids there. I can tell by the looks!"
"No it's quite fine." Aeross laughed along with Kharon before settling down. "So what is your idea?"
"It's not quite an idea exactly but a legal thought I could bring up with you." Kharon began to look deeply at Aeross. "Do the Krakari laws up north truly apply here?"
"Why of course they do." Aeross said. "We are Krakari and it was through the Republic that we are here. It was through the Republic that Rostrum has grown to the Republic's biggest territory!"
"Yet, the Krakari here don't identify themselves with, no offense, the Krakari in the north. They see the laws and they question it. How am I supposed to explain northern laws if I cannot truly identify with them myself? Certain laws just cannot be applied to the new colonies that the President is constantly expanding." Kharon said with concern in his voice.
"Then we must get attention to the Senate as soon as possible but I fear the process may take long." Aeross said before Kharon let out a long sigh.
"I summoned you here to help me with this issue so you must do whatever you can to resolve this as quickly as possible." Kharon said sternly. "So far, you've seen the people who still support being with the Republic including me. As we speak, that number decreases so we need to act quickly. Talk of seceding is starting to reach me and when Krakari are banging on my door with thoughts of secession then you need to do this right now, understood?"
