Aeross, Rostrum

The lithe Krakari adjusted quickly to the desert heat but what he could not adjust to was the new brand of Krakari growing up on the frontier. They weren't as complacent as their northern brethren and the differences between the peoples were quite evident. They were taller, hardier and were fiercely independent. Even the colors of their feathers were darker, earthier in appearance. Aeross stuck out when he was inaugurated as Chief Adviser to the Governor of Rostrum. The Governor was a hardy Krakari in appearance and an even more gruff person when speaking personally to someone else. In a crowd, he grabbed their attention with his hands and energetic personality. Aeross thought his mother was a personality but Kharon was a political dynamo.

In the frontier, the race for a seat in government was more direct and akin to brawls rather than the cut-throat business dealings up north. It took Aeross quite some time to adjust to the radical change in demeanor and even though he was honored to take such a position, he questioned why exactly Kharon needed him. But, Kharon was more crafty than his brown feathers lead on. He would often say to Aeross that his family's white feathers would serve him well in the sweltering heat but Aeross couldn't quite decipher his intentions until he was summoned to a stone meeting hall for what seemed like another council meeting.

From what Aeross knew and what was provided to him by his mother, Kharon had been a troop commander for quite a long time. He was born fighter that was able to fit himself just right in the officer ranks of the new Krakari army just before the invasion of the Manor. His troops held the manor fiercely even when three armies descended on them. By the time the fighting was over, Kharon and his men were given medals of bravery by the Krakari High Command. Aeross saw several of these medals when he dined at his simple estate for a few times. Kharon curiously had no family to speak of as he was an orphan and his wounds sustained from the war had left him unable to bear children. His wounds did stop Kharon from traveling to Rostrum and founding a successful firearms business. It was in Rostrum that Kharon saw a new life ahead of him and the opportunity to lead once more yet he had a different air to him when Aeross saw Kharon alone.

"Aeross, thank you for joining me tonight." Kharon greeted Aeross with a simple wave of the hand. "Come sit, I need to talk to you about something."

"Normally we would take in the tavern so I must also ask why in the meeting hall?" Aeross asked curiously. Kharon only grinned at the question before answering.

"I felt that it suited the matter that I wished to discuss before you interrupted me." Kharon said plainly. Aeross was a bit taken a back, realizing that that he did just that. Kharon laughed before patting Aeross on the shoulder, nearly toppling him. "I'm just pulling your wing, Aeross. I was struck with an idea and I was afraid that if I left the meeting hall, I would lose it. If you want, we can go to the tavern. I know that you fancy one of the barmaids there. I can tell by the looks!"

"No it's quite fine." Aeross laughed along with Kharon before settling down. "So what is your idea?"

"It's not quite an idea exactly but a legal thought I could bring up with you." Kharon began to look deeply at Aeross. "Do the Krakari laws up north truly apply here?"

"Why of course they do." Aeross said. "We are Krakari and it was through the Republic that we are here. It was through the Republic that Rostrum has grown to the Republic's biggest territory!"

"Yet, the Krakari here don't identify themselves with, no offense, the Krakari in the north. They see the laws and they question it. How am I supposed to explain northern laws if I cannot truly identify with them myself? Certain laws just cannot be applied to the new colonies that the President is constantly expanding." Kharon said with concern in his voice.

"Then we must get attention to the Senate as soon as possible but I fear the process may take long." Aeross said before Kharon let out a long sigh.

"I summoned you here to help me with this issue so you must do whatever you can to resolve this as quickly as possible." Kharon said sternly. "So far, you've seen the people who still support being with the Republic including me. As we speak, that number decreases so we need to act quickly. Talk of seceding is starting to reach me and when Krakari are banging on my door with thoughts of secession then you need to do this right now, understood?"

Grat Shee, Southern edge of the burning sands.

Looking at the sands and shaking his head the Grat standing guard can feel the heat beating down at himself. Shera pulls the gun from its holster on his back and starts polishing it as he watches. Sitting on a rock as he does he keeps an eye on the horizon. The things being told about the other nations had finally reached here and quite a few of the Grat who had heard that one of the other big nations had sent them some kind of money way. The Chief had taken it and was keeping the information, the way they had themselves was still under review and Shera had little interest in that.

Putting an arrow in his gun and sighting it he turns around trying to find something to shoot at and sighs to himself when nothing comes up.

Leader Rogaan, Highcrag, Free State of the Deep Tribes

Rogaan leafed through the remaining papers in Dolmak's desk, the entire residence of the Supreme was undergoing a clearing and economising in the spirit of the revolution. Across the Deep Tribes mines had already been taken from their owners and placed in the hands of committees, the so-called Luug aristocracy thrown out of their fancy caves and spawning pools put back under the remit of all the tribes. Regrettably there had already been a few reports of murders of formerly wealthy Luug, Rogaan had ordered a full investigation into each and hoped the perpetrators would be brought to justice. She understood why feelings would be running high but there was no need for violence against those who had already been defeated.

The new leader's eyes widened when she discovered three letters sealed together in envelopes, neatly written by two different hands. They had very clearly been left for her to find.

"What are they?" her deputy Xuron asked as Rogaan quickly scanned through the first two.

"Now we know why the old council finished off Keplar," Rogaan replied, handing over the first letter, "He wanted to leave Aurora with the backing of Gangari. It seems Dolmak had the same plan, before we stepped in,"

She studied the third letter, also by Dolmak's hand. In Luug runes rather than Auroran script, it vaguely threatened a return if the Octavians were unable to keep the Free State stable, Rogaan had to chuckle. God-backed or not, she couldn't see the much maligned council being accepted with open arms any time soon.

"What should we do with these, destroy them?" her second inquired, "I mean, could the secession letters have legal implications?"

"I doubt it," Rogaan shook her head, recalling her legal training, "Without any written council backing at the time, it's unclear that the Supreme could make a unilateral declaration. Constitutional changes are outside the remit of powers devolved to the Auroran provinces too, even to an independent state like ours, so without the assent of the Imperial Parliament and the Emperor they would be meaningless."

Of course, the same reasoning meant that the Octavians' Padonian-backed coup was also illegal under Auroran law, but they would deal with that problem when it reared it's head.

"Archive them for historical records," Rogaan added, "For now they are too sensitive to release, it would inflame tensions within the Free State once again and not to mention leave Gangari's reputation in tatters if the general populace were to find out that he had tried to break up Aurora. Perhaps though in fifty or a hundred years they will be useful for historians,"

"Very good," Xuron nodded, "Have you responded to the invitation to the great rally next week,"

"No, but I'm afraid you'll have to take my place," Rogaan replied, "Myself and Comrade Caeso are travelling to meet with the King of Ajivha and other western representatives in a grand summit on Cytundeb. There we will decide what our next move is in regards to the Imperial government,"

.

High Prince Aurelius, near Cassipolis, the Channel

Meanwhile far to the east, the heir presumptive to the Imperial throne and his eldest son journeyed together along the Channel, the city of Cassipolis dimly visible through the morning mist.

"Look Father, what is that?" young Kaius asked excitedly. It was his first diplomatic trip but at eleven, Aurelius thought the boy was old enough to learn the trade he would most likely be conducting for the rest of his life. Whilst the pair headed for Xule, his wife and two youngest children would be holidaying at the Imperial Palace in Nova Verde with Maximus, where they would join them after the trade mission was completed.

"I don't know..." the High Prince replied slowly as he looked out over the deck. A small pool of water was creeping along the wooden planks like nothing he had ever seen before, seeping in and out between the cracks but certainly moving with a purposeful direction, as if it was alive. "Sailor," he barked at a nearby deckhand, "Investigate that pool at once!"

"Aye sir, Sam will do that," the bearded old seadog replied, walking up and prodding the puddle with his mop. Suddenly the mass of water leapt up, engulfing the sailor without hesitation before spitting him out across the deck in a heap.

"What the... get it!" Aurelius cried in alarm as the pool slid at lightning speed past the sailors who tried futilely to grab the water with their hands or in nets, it disappeared into the cabin underneath Aurelius and his son. For a moment all was quiet and then the mass erupted from beneath them, engulfing both of them in salty seawater. The High Prince briefly saw a terrible face staring at him, a snarl curling on it's liquid lips, before it vanished over the side of the ship. The pair dropped back onto the deck, soaked through.

"What was that?" Kaius mumbled as he lay winded on his back.

"Some sort of water ghast," Aurelius coughed as he struggled to his feet, "I think, I've never seen anything like it before,"

~

As the mass of water swam away from the ship, it became indistinguishable by sight from the sea around it, although fish still scattered as they felt the force of something unseen shooting past them. If any mortals had been close enough, they would have heard muttering coming from the moving mass.

"Damn, damn, damn!" Valin Molton exclaimed angrily as he swept past a surprised pair of crustaceans, "I've been following the wrong ship all this time!"

.

Badger, Nova Verde, Isle of Maia

The bodyguard sat polishing his sword as he scanned over a map of Nova Verde and a list of numbers besides it, trying to work out how to stretch his small number of men over the city for an upcoming parade featuring the Emperor. Somehow it seemed that his mind had become sharper since Jashiki had given him his armband but even so, without a formal education even managing simple sums was tough for the old vampire. He moved a handful of small whaletooth figures from one street to another, considering each angle in turn.

"What are you doing?" a small voice came from somewhere above him. Badger looked up to see a small boy hanging from the tree above him, staring at him intently. From his silk robes he was certainly the son of a noble, perhaps even royal. Still, that didn't blunt the bodyguard's annoyance.

"Get lost, I'm trying to think kid," he spat, looking back down at his list of sums. The boy stuck out his tongue and swung down so he was in Badger's face.

"I'm a prince, you can't speak to me like that," he replied haughtily. Badger curled his fists in anger but tempered himself, recalling something Maximus had told him the day before.

"Wait, you aren't... the grandson of the Emperor?" he grunted.

"Of course," the boy replied as if this was obvious, scanning over the map and the list of numbers beside it, "Is this maths?"

"Correct, don't touch..." Badger exclaimed as the young prince started moving figures across the map, turning to the sheet of sums and quickly writing down the answers in the margin.. He put his palm to his face as the boy stepped back, "You've messed it all up..." he groaned before adding with surprise, "Wait, this is good, these are right. If the left flank splits up between the first and third legs and the right after the fifth, then the whole street is covered. How did you do that?"

"I just worked it out," the boy shrugged nonchalantly.

"I'm Tetsu, they call me Badger," the bodyguard chuckled, offering his hand, "I'm in charge of your grandfather's guard, for better or worse,"

"I hope you're up to the job," the prince replied seriously as he took Badger's hand, "I'm Prince Aurelius Daigoro of Verde, but you can call me Daigoro,"

"Your mother's a Tian? I hail from that island too," Badger noted, ruffling Daigoro hair. He noticed a teardrop-shaped mark on the boy's forehead, just below the hairline. His eyes widened, it could not be. "Does the name Jashiki mean anything to you?" he inquired carefully, smirking at the prince's startled response, "Don't worry, I've encountered him too," he added with rueful smile.

"I met him in my home," Daigoro breathed slowly, "I don't think I'm meant to tell anyone, though,"

"You'll be fine telling me," Badger told him reassuringly, "I'm one of his chosen few, I guess we both are. Listen, if you need any help or anything, let me know. It's my job,"

"Okay," Daigoro grinned back, "If you need more help with your sums, let me know too!"

Grat Shee, Edge of the mountains and forest

Looking around and frowning to herself Crina plays with her axe as she waits. the message that had been sent to her had said to come alone and that it would be in her best interest. She was old now, only still in charge of her army because of her experience and a few friends close to the new Chief of chiefs who said she would stay a good fit. No one knew of the burning anger she had in her heart and even now she could feel it stirring as she looks up at the mountains knowing on the other side is a set of people that would in the future be nothing more than food between her fangs. Waiting here and growing more annoyed and nervous at who had called her here, making her look at the sun and deciding that she would only stay for a few more minutes before leaving. Just as she does she jumps and spins around raising her axe as branches break and a thumping movement that she knows right away, a moving rock. Frowning harder and keeping her axe raised and ready she watches as a Luug comes out of the trees behind her and stops just short, looking at her without an expression she can recognize.

After a few quiet minutes the Luug rumbles.
"Are you going to lower that? I called you here because some whispers have come to me that you are more receptive to what i have to say than most."

Crina narrows her eyes more before lowering her axe and putting it back in its slide on her hip. Looking up at the Luug she snaps.
"What do you want?!"

Smiling and shaking his head the Luug motions to himself.
"I am Horith, i came from Aurora because they hunted the resistance i was in and made it break apart before it could do what it needed to. I came here to hide since it seems you lizards don't keep to close an eye on us, but i also heard whispers about you Crina commander of the second army."

Stiffening and looking at the Luug Crina hisses at him.
"Speak what you want then im leaving, and be happy i do not split your skull and leave you to rot here away from your precious pool."

Horith nods and pulls some skins from behind him and tosses them to her feet.
"When you decide im right these will help you find me again. I heard you hate all Thresh and want to kill them all. While us Luug are not that bad because you can not eat us the rest of the world something else completely. So, i wanted to talk to you about putting you in a position to do something about how the Grat deal with outsiders."

Staring at the Luug and feeling torn Crina snatches up the leathers and holds them close as she moves to the side slowly.
"Your talking about overthrowing the Chief of chiefs and placing myself in his place. This goes against everything us Grat stand fore. Leave now before i split your head."

Still staring at the Luug in front of her Crina turns and starts moving away from the spot as quickly as she can. Breathing hard like she had been running she holds the leathers to her chest tightly. The Luug looks after her and smiles as he does, turning to lumber back into the trees and into a hiding spot with half a dozen other Luug he nods to them slightly and wanders deeper into the tunnels beyond.

Opal, Omarada, Isle of Cytundeb

After a fortnight in Ajivha, Indraj-Alika, Wen and Opal arrived in Cytundeb, in the bustling port city of Omarada. Renamed five years ago after the famous General and Defence Minister Tejas Omar, it was the largest settlement on the island and reputedly built on the remains of the original Luug colony on Cytundeb. They were invited to the council building, relatively modern with steam-powered appliances galore. Opal followed her father Wen down the red-carpet laced corridors, admiring the portraits of various Auroran royals and Parliamentarians that lined the walls.

Wen had a warm blue glow to him, though he hadn't explicitly told her what injustice had been done to him, she could guess from snippets he had mentioned in the past. She wasn't quite as naive as he imagined, and gathered that as a young man he had been tortured and almost killed by the creature known as Katalia, only surviving with the intervention of the good god Gangari. Opal's tiny fists clenched in anger at the thought her father suffering like this, even though it had happened decades before she was born, she wouldn't mind getting her hands on the so-called Weaver of Lysei if she ever met her.

The other leaders' auras were different, Faustus Caeso and Indraj didn't really seem to have a noticeable glow about them. Rogaan on the other hand was quite unique, the blue of having suffered an injustice tinged with the red of having committed one herself. Opal wondered what that might be and whether it made Rogaan a bad person. She reached up to squeeze Wen's hand for reassurance as the group took their seats around a table, pausing to regain their breath.

.

Master Wen Sung, Omarada, Isle of Cytundeb

"Fellow comrades," Wen said warmly as he shook hands with each of the leaders in turn, "I am glad you enjoyed A People's Republic,"

"CW... Comrade Wen," Faustus replied with a smile, "It's so good to finally meet you, given how long ago Octavius lived I feared you too might have passed away years ago,"

"No, I'm still here," Wen chuckled in reply. The group settled in and began discussing the implementation of Octavianism and the revolution, debating over various questions and potential flaws in the theory. After some time they reluctantly reached the subject of the present situation.

"We have yet to hear from the Imperial government," Rogaan noted, "Somehow, we don't think they will take too kindly to the Deep Tribes council's overthrow, nor to the Padonians' hand in the matter,"

"His Imperial Majesty is a fair man," Wen replied earnestly, "Perhaps you can convince him to let you be, in the interests of peace,"

Faustus and Rogaan looked uncomfortably at each other, before turning to the old teacher.

"The Commonwealth of Aurora is flexible but not that flexible, they will at-least wish to restore the property we have nationalised to their original owners and reparations along with that," Faustus noted, "Two so different systems could not coexist in one state, what we are thinking is much more radical,"

"We want to restore Father Matthias' original intention, as you wrote about," Rogaan added, "We want to found a People's Republic of Aurora," Silence followed such a proposition, until Indraj-Alika spoke hesitatingly.

"That is treason," the King said simply, raising an eyebrow, "It would lead to war, no doubt,"

"If they come for us, yes we must fight back," Faustus replied confidently, "I believe however that when the people of the Commonwealth see the success of our new order, they will overthrow the nobility and join us,"

"And the Emperor?" Indraj asked, "He is not just a political figure, but a living god for most Aurorans,"

"He is a good man, but his successors may not be," Rogaan interjected, "Better that we tear down the system while we have the chance, rather than waiting for the next tyrant to emerge,"

"How would this People's Republic function?" Wen inquired cautiously.

"Each state would be largely self-governing," Faustus replied, "We plan that the founding Republic will contain three states: Padonia, Greater Ajivha and the Deep Tribes. More states could be added later, for example the Ray-Das or Mereton, when they join us,"

"This makes sense," Indraj nodded, "So who would lead the Republic?"

"Well, we were thinking about Master Sung here," Rogaan said to the point, turning to Wen, "We would like you to become the first Supreme Leader of the People's Republic. You know Octavianism better than anyone else and would be a unifying figure between us three."

"I... I don't know, I am an old man, I have few years left," Wen mumbled in surprise at the offer.

"We need you," Faustus implored, pushing forward a document, "The world revolution needs you at it's heart to ensure it's success,"

"Can you promise no harm will come to the Imperial family?" Wen asked with a sigh, "I knew the Emperor as a boy and I have tutored his grandchildren, I would never forgive myself if I was the cause of their demise,"

"That is a good point," Indraj agreed, "They are my kin too, and I could not see harm come to them,"

"We will try to the best of our ability," Faustus reassured them, "The revolution won't just free the lower classes, it will also free those trapped in golden chains, if you get my meaning,"

"Very well," Wen nodded reluctantly, reaching to sign the founding statement, "I will be your leader,"

"Welcome aboard, Supreme Leader Wen Sung," Rogaan replied reverently, bowing to the old man, "Come with me, we have an introduction to make,"

~

A crowd had gathered outside the council building, some were locals but most were Octavian supporters from Ajivha, Padonia and the Deep Tribes, hulking Luug rubbing shoulders with humans and halflings of all hues and cultures. Applause rose instinctively as Rogaan led Wen out onto the balcony.

"I give you the Supreme Leader of the People's Republic of Aurora, the great Wen Sung!" Rogaan shouted into the maelstorm, "May the Revolution of Sixty Seven reverberate in every corner of the Earth!"

Wen raised his arms to the cheering crowd, he didn't even have to say anything. The former slave had never dreamed that he would end up where he was today and could do little more than smile and wave at his new adoring fans. He held tightly onto his daughter's hand, he was glad to at-least have her company, whatever may happen next.

"Forgive me Maximus, it is for the good of the world," he thought to himself.

.

Leader Indraj-Alika, Omarada, Isle of Cytundeb

Indraj-Alika felt freer than he had in years as he left the meeting chamber, part of him still questioned whether the revolution was the right thing to do but he had to try, the potential rewards were too great not to. He wondered what Gangari would say about it all, given what he had heard about how the Collective was run he hoped the god would be supportive.

"Father!" he turned to see Indraj-Andha marching up to him, his face a picture of rage, "Don't tell me what they're saying is true, that you're rebelling against the Emperor himself!"

"It is all true, I fully support the People's Republic," Indraj replied calmly.

"What about your oath as King of Ajivha?" his son spat, "Does that mean nothing to you?"

"Actually, I am no longer King," the Demiurge continued, passing a signed document over to Indraj-Andha, "I abdicated the throne an hour ago, if anyone has a claim to the monarchy of Ajivha it is not I, King Indraj-Andha," he said the last part pointedly. His son glowered, stuffing the instrument of abdication into his bag.

"I'm leaving for Nova Verde, and I'm taking Maria and the girls with me," Indraj-Andha added with a growl.

"Good," Indraj-Alika nodded with a smile in contrast to his son's anger, "I hope you find peace there,"

"Mark my words," Indraj-Andha replied furiously, "I will be back as soon as this far-fetched plot collapses around your ears, and then you will regret your treasonous actions!"

He stormed off out of the corridor, leaving Indraj-Alika alone shaking his head sadly.

"You know, I still love you, son," he muttered to himself as he walked on.

Jashiki, circling island water 11 AP

Sitting on top of the calm water on the circling island he created many years ago Jashiki sits cross leged as with his hands in his lap and his eye closed. The prophets and hero's he had moving into position over Aurora had started to come into fruition and he can feel a smile form on his lips. In front of him a swirling mass of water as he opens his eye and reaches out to touch it softly. It forming into a rigid several layered board game the mortals called chess when it was but one board. Reaching out and sliding one of the pieces closer to an edge on top and on the board below moves another piece closer to the middle. Watching the whole board and tilting his head for a minute he waves his hands through it and the water drops back into lake below him.

Smiling to himself and reaching down into the water he lifts a handfull and holds it like dirt, it trickling from and through his claws slowly as he looks down at it. Shaking his head and dropping it back into the lake Jashiki sets his hand flat on the water and closes his eyes again. Letting his mind roam out to the hero's out in the world. Whispering to Opal.
"Noblewoman Murian, guilty of child slavery. Judge her."

Pulling back after seeing her jerk slightly after that whisper comes to her only he moves to the traveling Hero of Water and whispers in his ear.
"The next village, the mayor and lawman work together. Take your time and judge them if you see a crime."

Shifting again and coming on Valin as he tries to search for his elusive pray Jashiki narrows his eyes and lifts his claws form the water to rake them down. Making scratches appear on the mans back as he hisses softly.
"Stop hunting her, and travel to the capital. If you do I will let you meet with her, eventually."

Watching as Valin arches and cries out at he is scratched Jashiki nods to himself and leaves him laying on the beach bleeding as a reminder that he has a new job to do and to forget his old ones. Opening his eye and baring his teeth slightly he stands, looking at the very peaceful lake and surrounding land he can see that no one is staying on this floating island. In fact as far as he could make out no one ever stops here. Frowning slightly and twitching his fingers it makes the waters below him move and small waves flow over it.

Raising his hands and spreading his claws Jashiki raises them causing the water below him to raise as well, it changing as well to become a water looking substance that slowly lifts to form into a large building floating over the water. Forming a walkway to the edge of the lake and smiling slightly Jashiki and sets a deep red water stone in the center of the building to be the center and breath to the whole place with a vengeance.

Gangari - 15/21 AP

Gangari watched as his plants grew and spread. So little time had passed but with the time they had been placed nature was taking care of their needs and his wants. He smiled at what he was accomplishing, though it would be decades before it began to have an impact that was noticeable to the mortals.

The world beyond his creations was continuing as it had, though things were moving faster now. Intervention would be needed soon, but he still had time. Time to think, time to create, time to alter his manipulations...

In the forests of the south a new species of bird began to appear. Large raven like birds with blue, silver, and black feathers patterned in ways unique to each bird. Their noises are distinct as a species and they have a tendency to sing. Their intellect is such that they have the potential for mimicry of language and an actual understanding of what they mimic.

Their minds in Gangari's wisdom were made many but one. Their thoughts distinct from one another but part of a greater webbing of minds across the species. Each able to see through eachothers senses and able to feel eachothers thoughts on a whim of their avian minds.

As he followed the path he sadly thought of the Yish, the majority of their tribes had died off over the decades since their arrival from the diseases born of the marsh and what was learned to have been some sort of feud.

The Yish as a people had survived but they fragmented further by the year. The tribes that had joined the Collective thrived with the knowledge they had gained and the others that survived their fighting dotted the marshes. Contact with them had become sparse and from what he had heard from foreigners in his watching of the Merchants quarter, those that knew of their existence believed them to have died off or to some were a ghost people.

In the distance he heard the crack of thunder as he walked. And then he heard it again. And again. And again. When he arrived at the end of the path, there was a group of men in the Zalya armour of the legion loosing fire from guns at some kind of wall of flesh. When one of them saw him, the group in whole turned to him, lowered their weapons, and saluted.

One of them, their armour marked with leadership sigils, approached Jubal and forced the front of their helmet to deform and peel outwards exposing their face. The man's eyes were silvered over and he was smiling.

Jubal bowed before speaking "So I assume I was summoned over this?"

The man smiled and handed the weapon to Jubal as he replied "Yes. Refinements to the design are almost complete and production will begin by the end of the month."

Jubal began examining the weapon as the man started to speak again. "Attempts at matching the firing rate of the Krakari Gatling resulted in the weapon tearing itself apart over time. We arrived at a compromise for the infantry rifles by using a similar system to the loading." He produced a long egg shaped bullet with a bronze cylinder attached to it. "The cylinders at the end of the barrel act as a loading system and these bullets contain the powder needed to launch them." He handed the bullet to Jubal. "The cylinder aligns with the barrel and fires the bullet before shifting another into place. The operator in this way can fire seven times without needing to reload. The need to load ammunition has been reduced and the time required to do so has been decimated through the introduction of the round." Jubal looked at the man questioningly as he continued. "Effort has went in to replicate the other useful part of it. The grooves we found in their barrels were found to increase the range of our firearms. With some drilling it changes the way the energy of the charge is released."

As the man finished speaking Jubal asked "Why the blade on the end? If the weapon is so superior, why would it need to be used as a spear?"

"What if one runs out of ammunition? Or the winds are too strong to fly?" The man replied "It's there for if it's needed."

"Hrm." Was his response as Jubal walked to where he saw the others were firing and took aim at the wall of flesh with practiced hands. It appeared to him to function the same as the others and no one was stopping him.

After a few moments of looking through the rudimentary metal sight he fired. A bolt of lightning shot from the barrel and into the flesh as the loud roar of thunder emanated from the rifle. Jubal sat in shock as he adjusted to what he had just saw. Looking at the wall he saw that part of it was now burning.

"Interesting effect isn't it." The man said as he snapped his gauntleted fingers. As he snapped them one of the other man canted something that caused the flesh reverted to its previous state. "Genning's a wonder isn't it." He turned to the man that canted the flesh and continued "Well retrieve it." All the while Jubal stood there staring at the weapon.

The genner that had been yelled at ran to the wall, reached his arm into the area that had burned and pulled something out before running back and presenting it to Jubal. In his hands were a rough glass tube or cone.

Jubal took the thing from the mans hands and turned to the leader of them "How?"

The man still smiling replied "Complex enchantments, the powder carries unnatural traits, what would have been a shell in the Gatling was made a part of the bullet allowing for further power using rocketry, the whole thing is made of the godmetal... Luck."

Jubal was silent for a few moments before looking at the glass and raising it "And this?"

"All that's left of the bullet due to the way it works. It's a... crystal of some sort, no one has bothered to name the stuff yet. Most of that is what's left of the flesh that was hit directly."

Jubal nodded and handed the rifle back to the man "How long until manufacturing begins?"

"By the end of the month."

Rederick - Yish Marshlands - Government District

More reports of the outside. Half of Aurora had decided it was its own nation. Rederick smiled at the idea when he found that it was annexed land and their "free state" that were rebelling. Ajivha had sent a letter to reassure them that their dealings would hold, the republic sent a letter asking for recognition, and the commonwealth sent a letter asking to ignore the others.

The attempt at a coup in the Deep Tribes was a doomed venture as far as he had learned and was to be tabled for the future, Ajivha was an issue that had been tabled years ago for the future, Padonia he had little care of, and Aurora in general... Maximus was a just ruler from what he knew of the man. This is something that should have waited until his passing atleast.

He'd have to consult Gangari on this and the others as well. This was something that needed time and the patient thinking that came with it.

- Create a non-sentient species smaller than an elephant.
- Action is difficulty 9, with a cost of 3 AP. Total domain bonus applied to the roll is +8. Autosuccess.

- Should have 12/21 AP at end of turn.

Major - Construct a Second Population Unit of Automatons and Station them within Gokvahar. Their appearance is built around the attempt to mask them as statues when not in motion. Their machinery and design is more complicated than the original design of the first generation, and a good deal more compact. Their flesh as it is will be of the bronze metal used for most things by the collective and their internal components will be of their silver metal. Their eyes instead of the more rare sapphires used in the construction of the first generation, will be runes where the iris should be on the eyes of their statue design.

Major - Implement Sinan Revolving Rifles (Bayonets, Revolving Components, Rifling)

Major - Implement Yildirim Bullets (Advanced Rocketry, Alchemical Gunpowder, Elongated Bullets, Powder Cartridges)

Major - Secret

Major - Secret

Minor - Accept Fiat Currency in the Merchants Quarter, but as policy trade it for material goods when possible.

As a Note - My methodology for project techs is that I exclude techs from the ones I list as part of the project that have already been fully implemented.

They also implemented steam-powered automobiles and military necromancy as well as the free state of the deep tribes was integrated into the peoples republic of Aurora. They also had a secret action.

Collective
A major thing in the last few months was they made a second generation of Automatons and they were sent out into the population to make it grow again, filling many of the empty jobs and places that had laid vacant since they great ship went up. They also implemented Sinan revolving rifles and Yildirim bullets. A few secret actions were done successfully.

Grat Shee
The Grat sent a part to the north of their single citadel and more tribes and towns were created up there. Many secret actions were done in the bowels of the Cage and stored there for future use.

Gods

Gangari

Gangari created yet another thing for the world, birds with their own mind but also connected so they could not only think together but look through each others eyes.

Jashiki
Jashiki created a large building in the middle of the lake on the circling island he had previously created. IT sits just above the water made from a light and dark blue stone that looks like water in many ways. A single bridge goes from the entrance to the edge of the lake 20 feet wide with a little rail on either side.

Khalorean, 15 AP

"Vesrin", Khalorean spoke to the old man who had summoned him, his Twice Blessed. "I have been watching far. Though your own village is thriving and peaceful, it is not so in most of the rest of the world. I am sure you already know some of this."
"Yes... I have heard... things... awful things... from travelers and merchants."
"Continue to live in peace. Showing others is more valuable than most of you mortals realize. I will have further, and more detailed need for you in the future. Stay well, and know I will come for you yet again."

Khalorean dissipated his avatar, and went back into his thoughts. The other god had said he would help, and he wasn't there when the time came. Fine. That meant he would have to do it alone. But he didn't want to risk trying again, seeing his own previous failure. Maybe something that still fulfilled the same function; but was simpler.
A different race of insects. One that was around the same size, but far lighter. It didn't need magma, either. That was mostly to satisfy Lysei's requirements. An insect that would seek out evil instinctively; able to sense the mental trait that causes humans to be capable of dispassionate, arrogant, apathetic cruelty. That was a scent, if one knew what to look for.
Khalorean did. He could make sure his new children could, too.

He concentrated this time, noting his own power had increased, and hoped it would be enough to succeed.
The evil people he noted before- not the lady with the neighbor, that was already done. It would need more to fix as of now; too much time went by. The innocent man was already locked away.

Khalorean noticed something that piqued his interest. A few miners had recently discovered a vein of a strange pink crystalline material yet unknown. It almost looked like flawless, though lightly colored, rose quartz. But it was far harder than that. More to the point, the reason that Khalorean cared at all was that there were inch-long beetles discovered within the crystal, which seemed impenetrable in close proximity to the beetles themselves. He would continue watching. This just might be interesting, or at the least, useful.

Emperor Maximus I, Nova Verde, Isle of Maia

Maximus stared into the distance from his throne, it had been an unbelievably tough month. The news of the rebellion in the west had come like a sledgehammer, a great schism dividing the nation in half with not even the slightest warning beforehand. With the movement being spearhead by the leaders of Ajivha, Padonia and the Deep Tribes, it was impossible to tell how much support they had on the ground. News had already arrived from the People's Republic of massacres of nobles and those perceived to be aligned with the Commonwealth, though equally on his own side there had been reports of violence in Ithene after some students led a failed attempt to overthrow the peninsula's council. It was a mess from every angle he looked at.

"I can't believe Wen and Indraj would betray me like this," Maximus said sadly to Lord Aldren, shaking his head, "We could have talked it over, came to an arrangement perhaps. Now it's too late,"

"I've collected oaths of loyalty from the remaining leaders of the Commonwealth," Aldren nodded in reply from where he stood, "Theodoric of Balaena, Ker-Hai of Oilean Uisce, Ver-Jie of the Ray-Das and Cyneheard of Mereton have all pledged to do everything they can in this struggle,"

"Good," the Emperor sighed wearily, "I received Lord Deputy Quinn's resignation this morning, as expected," he turned to Aldren, "I'd like you to take his place,"

"Me?" the Lord Seer exclaimed, "I am honoured your Majesty but I am seventy three, I'm too old to return to politics now,"

"These are exceptional circumstances," Maximus said, "You along with Lord Cassian were among my best deputies, I just need you until this crisis is over,"

"Very well your Majesty, if it is your wish, I will serve as Lord Deputy," Aldren bowed reverently, before adding, "Have you heard about the chaos in Xule? They say that the city council was preparing to declare loyalty to the Commonwealth, only to be overthrown by armed Octavian sympathisers. The two factions are currently fighting for control over the city, with no clear victor,"

"Indeed," the Emperor replied with a pained expression, "The worst? My son Aurelius and his eldest Kaius are currently there,"

"By the Father!" Aldren exclaimed with a sinking feeling, "Does the People's Republic know that?"

"We think not," Maximus shook his head, "It was a private trade mission, they are currently lying low in the Palace of Nations,"

"What should we do?" the Lord Seer paced up and down anxiously, running through potential scenarios in his head.

"Me and my generals are working on an extraction plan," the Emperor grimaced, presenting Aldren with a set of documents "I have just the man in mind,"

.

Supreme Leader Wen Sung, Omarada, Isle of Cytundeb

Meanwhile on the Isle of Cytundeb, a similar conversation continued between the four leaders of the People's Republic in their makeshift government chambers, the city of Omarada having been declared the Republic's temporary capital. Nationalisation was in full swing, with a torrent of formerly wealthy refugees heading east to escape the revolution as workers took control of the farms and factories. The four knew that there was much residual loyalty to the Emperor however among the common folk, they would have to get results quickly to stop counter-revolutionary sentiment from boiling over.

"Our spies have found some interesting news," Faustus added with a raised eyebrow, "the High Prince Aurelius and his eldest son are in Xule, hiding in the Palace of Nations,"

"Really?" Indraj exclaimed in surprise, "And they haven't been moved yet?"

"The city is in utter chaos, they're probably waiting for a safe opportunity," Rogaan interjected.

"Think it about," Faustus said in a hushed tone, "Imagine the bargaining power if we had the heir to the Auroran throne in our hands? We could probably force the Commonwealth into a truce, at-least for a time while we prepare to defend ourselves,"

"Would it be safe?" Wen asked cautiously.

"Our best men would be sent," the Padonian assured him, "The palace could be easily surrounded and then it would only be a matter of time before they surrendered. No shots need be fired, if everything goes to plan,"

"Very well, start with the preparations," the Supreme Leader nodded, fixing Faustus with a serious gaze, "I'm trusting you to run this operation well, Comrade Caeso,"

.

Valin Molton, Cassipolis, Medegarde

On the edge of the quiet port of Cassipolis, Valin Molton walked gingerly into the nearest tavern, the claw marks on his back still raw and painful even after a week. As expected, a shadowy figure was waiting for him at the furthest table to the left, two mugs of beer at the ready. A few patrons gave him a glance as he entered but continued with their business, all sorts of strange folk travelled up and down the Channel after-all.

"Captain Molton," the Zayin hissed from beneath her cloak, "This better be good, since I've come all this way from Maia,"

"It is, I have found the girl-child," Valin replied with a grin. He then quickly recounted everything that had happened in the last few months, from meeting with Jashiki for the first time to being plucked out of the water a week earlier. "She is in the city of Omarada on Cytundeb, accompanying rebel leader Wen Sung, most likely as a bodyguard," he finished triumphantly, "You would never expect it from the look of her, no?"

"Well done," the Zayin smiled, "This Republic could be useful in our fight against Lysei and his foolish Emperor. As for Opal, I may have to send some of my other agents to retrieve her,"

"I can get her myself," Valin replied indignantly, "I will have to return to Nova Verde for a month or two to continue preaching the word of Jashiki, after that I will be able to return to Cytundeb and secure the girl this time,"

"Very well, do not fail me this time," the Zayin said as she rose to leave, "I want her unharmed, you hear me?"

"Of course," the former captain bowed as she walked out of the pub. He looked around nervously in-case any eyes had been watching them, turning back to the drinks on the table. "Damn, she's left me with the bill," he muttered to himself.

Grat Shee, Fence between Grat and Krakari

Starting in the north most edge of the fence where they were north of the Krakari nation boarder teams of Grat were pulling up the wooden fencing and taking the skulls from them before piling the wood up and replacing them with metal posts of several different colors and seemingly types. As they dig and plant these metal spikes in the ground to replace the wooden ones they are slightly wider apart at 10 feet in between, another team come behind them and bury the skulls that had been hanging on the fence in front of each post several feet down and set a small stone tablet in front of each saying.

Here lay the skull of a Grat hunter, watching ever after the lands of the Grat. May the claws of their soul reach out and strike all who come in violence.
Well behind them another group of Grat holding spools of wire and some tools connect the wire to the base of the posts and send the one holding the spool into the forest to do something for several minutes before they come back with a good portion of their wire holder gone. One after the other they do this to the whole fence across the whole north portion of the boarder with the wires being held in leather and buried under the earth a few inches.

----------------------------------

Kesar throws the wooden slat that had been handed to him a few minutes ago down and sighs. Staring at it and frowning hard he looks over at the personnel assistant that had been given to him he motions the younger Grat over. Handing him the slat he orders him.
"Put this in the shelf and tell the other lab workers that we have a new job from the Chief, which we need to work on now."
----------------------------------

Xuron grunted as he was led into the depths of the Grat capital, it was familiar but at the same time different from the caves he called home. He wouldn't have chosen to come out here but the Republic needed support if it was to survive it's first months and the four leaders were busy coordinating their new state from Cytundeb. He only hoped the Deep Tribes would fair well without either of it's top two administrators present.
"Greetings from the People's Republic," he bowed before the Grat his guides had said he would be meeting with.

Sitting in the back of the cave where the Luug had been left the carved out place was interesting as it had two distinct types of things sized for Grat and Luug. Standing and nodding at the larger Luug Hiero waves at the Luug sized seat across from him.
"Welcome, I am Hiero chief of chiefs of the Grat Shee. You told the border patrol that you were here about business?"

"Yes, I am Xuron, Deputy Leader of the Deep Tribes," the Luug nodded as he sat opposite the Grat, "I have come today to ask about the hiring of some of your units. I assume you have heard of the great schism that divides Aurora?"

Hiero pulls out two sets of letters and sets them down on the table between them.
"Yes, you both sent me letters. You to accept you as a nation and the other side to ignore you. If you wish to hire us than you have an idea about the contract we use for it?"

"I would offer to hire both of the Grat elite units," Xuron started, "And also ask for the courtesy of official recognition as the legitimate government of Aurora. In exchange, you would receive a payment of gold for every month your Grat live in our service, and a final lump sum when the banner of the Republic is flown over Nova Verde, or they are released from our service, whichever may come first,"

Hiero shakes his head and leans back in his chair.
"We will recognize the winner as the rightful government, until then your split in half and we will deal with both halves as they are. As for the payment, I would like to exchange the entire gold amount your offering for some knowledge. We have heard about the things you have in Aurora, im asking for something from you that we don't already know about as payment. If you agree."

"You realise this is a schism that could last years, decades even?" Xuron replied with a shrug, "Sitting on the fence will not gain the Grat any favours from whoever is eventually victorious, I don't doubt the Commonwealth would consider our dealings today as de facto recognition of the Republic," he paused to collect his thoughts, "A substitution of knowledge for gold could be made. What sort of knowledge do you desire?"

Pulling a slat of wood from behind his chair Hiero hands it over.
"The plans for a steam train. We are not riding the fence, if either of you come to us than we will treat you like a nation. But since you have come to us first than we wont be offering hunters to the other side."
Hiero shrugs and looks at Xuron.
"We always go with the first comer, as you should remember from the previous war."

"We could certainly provide the suitable technology to build this train, we would have to consult our partners in the Krakari and Collective to get the full schematics," Xuron noted.

Hiero pauses for a second and shakes his head.
"Just the Krakari, we have permission and part of the plans from the Collective. Take your time, we will not require it till after our contract is over."

"Very well, that is quite reasonable," Xuron smiled as he reached to shake the Grat's paw, "I hope our contract won't be required too long, I hear the council in Cytundeb is aiming for a truce,"

Nodding and taking the large rock fist offered Hiero motions to a guard who runs off. Standing he looks at Xuron smiling.
"I hope so also, but however long they will be there to help. if you wait a few days before returning you can return with them."

"I will, it would be a shame to return to the Free State so soon after coming all this way,"

Nodding Hiero starts to leave when he stops. Turning back and warning the Luug.
"We have a little problem with Luug resistance still. Don't leave without an escort, it would be a shame to lose you in many regards. Feel free to stay here while you wait."

"Very well, thank you for warning me," Xuron nodded, "We had the good god Gangari deal with our resistance problems, you should inquire into the same,"

Hiero smiles slightly.
"We already follow him, but there is no need to bother him in something that we can take care of ourselves."

"I hope you will deal with them soon then," Xuron replied pointedly as he sat back in the quarters.

Badger, above the city of Xule

"How soon to the landing point?" Badger shouted to the pilot next to him as the sky ship they rode in tore over the Channel, the light of the great city of Xule at night becoming increasingly visible in front of them. On either side of the ship two squadrons of dragons flew, their rider's perched in readiness for their mission.

"Just a minute!" the pilot replied as the dragons flew ahead of the ship, suddenly diving over the city and shooting jets of fire out of their mouths onto the streets below. Badger hoped no-one would be harmed, the flaming torrents looked threatening but the riders had been instructed to avoid civilian targets, their main purpose was to distract the defenders of Xule whilst the sky ship found the Palace of Nations.

"Here we are," the pilot added as the ship touched down on top of the palace with a gentle bump. Badger cocked his ears, there seemed to be some sort of commotion happening around the building.

"Stay here!" he ordered the pilot as he leaped out of the ship and down a nearby flight of stairs into the palace. As he slipped along in the shadows, he swore as he saw a small Octavian militia walking ahead of him, checking each room as they went along. "They must know the High Prince is here!" he cursed under his breath. He crept closer until he was only a few feet behind the soldiers and then charged forward with a snarl. The first soldier was thrown against a wall, the second taken out by a well-timed kick to the chest. The third had time to turn around and aim his gun but not enough to pull the trigger before the firearm was wrestled out of his hands and then hit over the head with. Badger grinned as he stepped over the three unconscious men.

"Still got it," he muttered as he continued down the corridor. It was then he heard a small cry coming from the furthest chamber to the left, he sprinted in without hesitation. Prince Aurelius was standing holding a steam pistol pointed towards the door, his eleven year old son Kaius tucked behind so he was shielded by his father's torso. Badger quickly threw up his hands to show he was unarmed.

"I was sent by the Emperor, I'm his bodyguard," he said hastily, "You have to come with me now!"

"How we knew you aren't one of them?" the Prince replied suspiciously.

"Where would an Octavian get this?" Badger shot back, throwing the Emperor's seal for Aurelius to catch, "If you want to live, follow me!"

He turned back down the corridor with the pair of royals at his heels, expecting at any moment for more soldiers to appear, thankfully by the time they reached the roof of the palace none did. He picked Kaius up by the scruff of his neck and half-threw him into the sky ship, before helping his father board as quickly as he could.

"Let's go!" he shouted to the pilot, who hastily manoeuvred some controls and started to take off as Badger closed the ship door behind him.

"We made it," Aurelius breathed in relief. At that moment the sound of gunfire filled the air and a terrible crack came from beneath them, the sky ship rolling violently in mid-air, almost throwing it's occupants out of their seats.

"What is happening?!" Badger spluttered to the pilot as the man desperately tried to regain control of the ship, flipping switches and pulling levers as fast as he could.

"We're under heavy fire!" the pilot spat, "There's a ship tailing us and some heat from the ground too. I'll try to steer us up above their range," He continued to work the controls of the ship but rather than heading upwards it began to sink inexorably towards the Earth, "I think one of our engines is damaged, I can't gain any height!" he added with a note of desperation as the white houses of north Xule grew larger and larger in the windscreen.

"No!" Badger exclaimed in alarm, powerless to avoid their impending crash, "This can't be happening!"

"By the Father, we're finished," Aurelius cried aloud as he held his son's face to his chest, the pilot muttering a prayer under his breath even as he continued to try to bring the ship up. The last thing Badger saw was the shocked faces of the citizens of Xule looking up at the burning sky ship flying over their heads and then blackness as his entire surroundings exploded around him.

~

"Where... am I?" Badger muttered as he awoke to the sound of shouts, his nostrils filled with the stink of burning fumes. His clothes were torn to pieces but he himself had barely a scratch, from the state of the ship it looked like he had his vampirism to thank for that. Most of the hull was burned through and the rest lay scattered in pieces around the square they had crashed in. He tried to stand and as he did so, the memories of the past evening returned to him in a single blow.

"The princes!" he muttered in alarm. He looked around and his heart sank when he saw young Kaius and the pilot lying side by side, both clearly dead from the unnatural way their bodies lay. "Damn, damn it!" he growled, pricking his ears as he heard coughing from nearby. Pushing aside a large chunk of ship he found Aurelius lying prostate over half a broken chair, one of it's arms sticking defiantly through his chest, his legs almost severed below the knees.

"Keep still, your Majesty," he instructed, reaching to hold the Prince's hand. The man shook his head, trying and failing to give a rueful smile. Badger could hear other men approaching but he ignored them, focusing entirely on the scene in front of him.

"It's too late," Aurelius whispered, "Tell the Emperor... my father... that I'm sorry," He let out one final gasp, before falling still. Badger let out a single howl of anger as the soldiers closed in and then hung his head in shame, not bothering to resist or fight back as they handcuffed him and led him away from the crash site.

.

Leader Indraj-Alika, Omarada, Isle of Cytundeb

"What have we done?" Indraj muttered, burying his hand in his hands as Faustus recounted the terrible news. Wen shook his head silently and stood up, walking out of the chamber without another word.

"We can still negotiate," Faustus added desperately, "I have cards we can play, concessions that can be made,"

"You killed the Emperor's only son!" Rogaan rounded on him, "We would be lucky if our emissaries weren't thrown from the walls of Nova Verde!"

"Well what is there to do?" Faustus replied with exasperation.

"The only thing we can do," Rogaan growled, "They'll be bearing down on us as soon as the news reaches the capital. Our armies must converge on Xule and secure the city before the Commonwealth does! We have a trump card in that regard,"

"Do tell?" Indraj asked, looking up for a moment at the Luug.

"My deputy Xuron managed to hire two elite units of Grat for our cause," Rogann replied with a small smile, "I hear they are among the best, and entirely unexpected. Once Xule falls, the trade of the Channel will be entirely in our hands and the rest of Aurora will follow!"

.

Emperor Maximus I, Nova Verde, Isle of Maia

Back in Nova Verde, no-one was quite sure how to tell the Emperor of his tragic loss and no-one wanted to be the bearer of such bad news. The ministers even considered training a small child to report the tragedy parrot fashion, but eventually it fell to his attendant Damia to impart the news. By this time her closeness with Maximus was a barely kept secret.

"Your Imperial Majesty," Damia bowed formally before the Emperor, from the sidelines Lord Aldren and Prince Hwan watched with apprehension, "I regret to inform you that the attempted extraction from Xule failed. Aurelius and young Kaius are dead,"

Maximus stared at her impassively for a moment and then crashed from his throne onto the floor, mouthing wordlessly with his eyes closed. Damia cradled him in her arms, she feared he might be about to have a heart attack but then he opened his eyes again, gazing up at her with an expression she couldn't quite place.

"Take back Xule," the Emperor croaked, his voice cracking with emotion, "Show no quarter!"

Jashiki 11Ap Floating island.

Standing in front of the floating buildings he had pulled from the water Jashiki admires the building he had created and smiles to himself. Crossing his arms and closing his eye to look out over the waters around the island and to the mainland. The killing that had started to happen in Aurora had caught his attention After but a few deaths and killings that had started to happen. Grunting softly and watching the fighting in Xule he sighs as the children are killed in the fighting. Reaching out and stepping through to the crash site Jashiki freezes the people all around him long enough to pick up the wrecked body of the child and holds it in his arms as he steps back through to the island where he had formed the great building.

Walking along the long bridge and into the main building he keeps walking through the building slowly till he gets to the center of the building and stops next to the pulsing red orb in the center. Laying the body out on a slab that sits around the orb, one of dozens and dozens. Looking down and sliding a cover over the body it shrinks down till its tight over the body but hiding it. Walking over and taking a plaque off the wall and scratching the name and date and where Jashiki sets the small stone plaque on the table and sighs softly. Saying to the empty room.
"This room will soon be filled with friends and comrades. you will not be alone here for long young Kaius."

Turning sharply and walking back through the halls the walls shift behind him hiding the room and its lone occupant. Walking higher and higher up in the building he gets to the top and stands on the roof of the highest building with his hands resting on the railing. Looking in the distance and saying softly into the wind.
"Those who are beaten, hurt, in need of justice and vengeance. Come to me here and your wishes will be fulfilled. Come to this place, and you shall become the most feared to all who seek to become evil."

Gangari - Eastern Aetherial Collective - 21/21 AP

In the marshes of the east Gangari walked the streets of his children again. It had been some time since he had actually done so as his senses were sharp and there was too much to watch for him to allow himself the activity often.

Days passed in his mortal guise as he lived amongst them, observing how far they had come along directly. Many wonderful things had come in their time though there were certain things that worried him as well. Everyone was armed in one way or another, more so than when they had arrived in the marshes, and the majority had flasks filled with the potion that they had created for their soldiers somewhere on their persons.

As he wandered he found something that he wasn't expecting for some time. In a workhouse there was a group of workers dissecting some of the flowers that he had created months prior and doing something to it. In a room adjacent there were boxes of soil sitting under globes of light on the ceiling. More of the flowers were growing from the soil in the boxes.

Looking into their heads didn't relieve the confusion of where they were getting them from or how they were already growing them like this. It seemed to him that they had found a use for them though as one of the workers took some of the dried and crushed petals and started smoking them in his pipe.

It worried him.

Gangari - Xule

Gangari sadly walked the streets of Xule as he saw what had happened. So little time had passed and so much had happened. He invisibly stalked his way into the smoking wreck, looking for the bodies. It wasn't their time and knowing what he was dealing with the bodies wouldn't make their way back if left behind.

The pilot and crew were dead, the vampire had been dragged off, the father was dead, and the son... The son wasn't within the city. Gangari couldn't see him here, he had died here but the body was gone.

That was, something to deal with later. Gangari teleported the bodies to elsewhere, to a sacred place, so he could have time to think without worrying about them further, what would be done to them. There was no point in raising the father until he had the son to raise beside him, and he wouldn't have time to look for the son properly until the channel was stabilized.

Maximus wouldn't take the news well, he knew enough of the man to know what it would do to him and that handing back only one of them would only bring further grief.

He snapped his fingers as he walked away from the crash, burning and destroying far off letters to the Aurorans in the messenger bags they were carried in. His childrens neutrality was better left unsaid in light of this until things were stabilized.

What was happening was happening and he had allowed it to happen. He wanted to give them the chance to avoid this path on their own but they hadn't taken it. It was time to involve himself again.

He needed to begin somewhere and the endless plans lining his mind showed him where...

General Xiad, the Battle of Xule

A week after the fatal crash, the ships of the Archipelagan army appeared out of the dawn mist like phantoms, descending on the city of Xule like a bitter gust of the north wind. Backed by their allies in the Ray-Das army, the Commonwealth soldiers landed quickly but as they advanced to the city walls, found themselves encountering heavy resistance. It was not just the city guards they were fighting they found, but also the Ajivhan and Padonian armies who had arrived in Xule only days earlier at bequest of the new revolutionary council, who had overthrown by force the city assembly who wished to align with the Commonwealth.

The soldiers of the Commonwealth quickly broke through the northern wall with the help of explosives but their progress was impeded by several squads of Octavian guards who filled the breach, tearing through any attackers who tried to force their way in. Eventually they were cut down by a unit of Ray-Das but not before heavy casualties had been suffered. After this, backed by a number of later arriving dragons it seemed that the momentum was on the side of the Commonwealth as they surge into upper Xule, but then the People's Republic revealed their trump card. From the edges of streets hired Grat seemingly appeared out of nowhere, descending upon the unsuspecting Commonwealth soldiers with their knives and bows, picking their enemies off one-by-one. Confidence evaporated, to be replaced by panic as the soldiers realised their comrades were vanishing without a trace and began to retreat to the wall.

General Xiad ordered a regroup with the intention of storming to the centre of the city but as they did so, a fleet of Ajivhan sky ships arrived from the south, dropping explosives created by the Luug onto the retreating armies. This was the final blow for the already weakened force and the surviving soldiers hurried back to their ships in a disorganised mass, boarding the nearest vessel without regard for rank or unit. The few unlucky stragglers who left on the beach were promptly cut down by the resurgent Octavians, who cheered as the Commonwealth soldiers fled back into the mist. The reconquest had failed, Aurora's second city was firmly in the hands of the People's Republic.

Badger, Octavian Prison, City of Xule

Badger sat alone in the dark, muttering quietly to himself. His prison cell was damp and grey, and the food tasted like mush, but at-least he was still alive. He didn't want to think about the crash which had cost him not only the success of his mission but also the life of two of the most important Auroran royals, but there was little else to do in his empty box. He listened with interest when gunfire briefly came from overhead, before quiet returned and then the sound of distant cheering. As a jailer walked by he stuck his hand through the bars to get his attention.

"What's going on out there?" he asked.

"Some of your Commonwealth mates thought they would retake Xule," the guard grunted, "We showed them a few of our guns and they ran away with their tail between their legs, so if you thought that you would get out that way forget it. Now, are you going to talk?"

"You already know my answer, no," Badger replied firmly, crossing his arms defiantly. The jailer chuckled.

"I hope you enjoy spending the rest of your life in that box. Well, that is if the bosses don't change their mind and decide to use more... proactive methods of getting information out of you," he grinned at Badger, who stared stoically in response. The guard walked on and Badger looked around him for new ideas, trying to make use the brain that Jashiki had given him.

"I have to get out of here," he muttered to himself, eyeing the silver band on his right arm, "Who knows what will happen if they find out I'm a vampire... and one of Jashiki's chosen few?"

Aeross, Rostrum

The news of the new civil war spread through the colonies quickly. The settlers and colonists awaited for how Silver Claw would respond but from what Aeross received from his correspondence to his sister, the senate was debating whether to get involved at all. It was true that their people had been allies for the longest time but the ideas supported by the Octavians rang true to the people's hearts. The Krakari no longer saw the need for the old systems of government as they saw the people as the only power that a nation needs. The object of debate in the capitol was even more intense in Rostrum along with the other new cities. Aeross often had to calm down the arguing parties in the meetings and they looked to him as an outlet of the Silver Claw's inability to take sides. The isolationism made the colonials angry as more Krakari began to side with the People's Republic of Aurora.

Aeross paced back and forth in his home, trying to think what to say in the upcoming meeting. He needed something to convince the local senatorial members to stay true with the Capitol but the nation's indecisiveness was not making things easier for him. He wrote to all his friends in the guild who still believed in Silver Claw for any suggestions but as the local newspapers began to circulate, he saw something that he could use. He paid for a newspaper as the paper boys made their rounds and in bold letters was his argument. Several letters came in as well reporting the same thing from his friends and family members around the Krakari Republic.

Aeross reported early to the local senate meeting with his new arguments. The senate meeting progressed normally as the member addressed the growth of Rostrum but also of the new cities as well. Factory and crop numbers were read aloud as Aeross awaited eagerly in his seat. Kharon noticed his eagerness and began to wrap up the meeting.

"Anyway, we have some important announcements to make so why don't I let-" Kharon was interrupted by a messenger who burst in through the door.

"Silver Claw needs an army!" The messenger said breathlessly before handing a letter to Kharon who snatched it up. Aeross was stunned by the sudden news and slightly upset that he wouldn't be able to put forth his speech.

"If Silver Claw needs an army then that means that action is coming soon!" Kharon said aloud and the senate responded gleefully. "We must make arrangements for the recruitment drive post haste! Go to your people and begin making arrangements, the Republic will have the best army it has ever seen."

Kharon walked off leaving Aeross flustered that he didn't continue with the announcements but he understood that there was bigger news. Besides the local senatorial meetings, it had been some time since the two could talk privately. But as the local senate began to run around and make arrangements, Kharon approached him.

"Aeross, I apologize for cutting the announcements short." Kharon said, looking over his shoulder and nodding for his guards to escort him out. "Am I correct in assuming that you would defend the Capitol in that speech?"

"Yes... why?" Aeross said with a concerned look on his face. Kharon motioned for him to follow outside the newly renovated senate chambers. Kharon lead Aeross to an isolated area and nodded for his guards to keep an eye out for them. They turned and patrolled the area while Kharon focused back on Aeross.

"Because if you made that speech, you would be dead by next week." Kharon said sternly. "Those that seek independence gain more followers by day and its been worse ever since the People's Republic declared war on Aurora. I fear that his new army will be infiltrated by those who seek to tear away the colonies from the Capitol's grip."

"How has this issue grown so dire?" Aeross mumbled to himself. "I've been writing letters but Silver Claw has yet to do anything about it. They are purely reactionary at this point."

"Then we have no time to waste." Kharon said, his military instincts kicking in. "My informers tell me that the separatists mean to send a very important letter to the People's Republic. We must let them send it because I personally know the messenger. Once they send it, we will have a place and an address."

"What if the address is false? What if we cannot track them?" Aeross asked.

"We will have a place and a name. That is enough. We can build from there but I have to keep you here. Some times it is wiser to stay in the eye of the storm and this is a serious storm so you must be here. You are my most trusted connection to the Capitol and if we have proof of that we need then we can paint the separatists as the terrorists they are. Are you with me?"

"Of course."

Yoshera, Silver Claw

Yoshera listened carefully to President Valery's address. It was a much needed speech to inform the people and the world what the Krakari people would do next. Another war raged in the south and from what Yoshera just recently learned, there was fighting in the streets of Xule. It was a beautiful city that Yoshera visited during Khyber's insurrection and he felt sadness knowing that the city would be ravaged by war.

"-The Auroran people have been our allies since the formation of this great nation and helped in its founding so we must look to them in this dire time. Both of our nations have stood together against adversity even in the face of gods. We grow stronger by the day because of the Auroran people so it is appropriate that a debt must be paid. It is not a debt found in any piece paper but in words and blood and our people have shed plenty of that-"

Yoshera looked that copy of speech at his hand before scanning the crowd. She was in the crowd, that much he knew. Ever since he met her in Talis, Valeria had never left his mind. He itched the scar on his neck before looking back to the President. He feared him more now ever since Valeria told him of his connections but part of him just couldn't believe that he was bringing back the Guild under a new name. The Oscens never left as much as he feared and Yoshera knew that Valerys was part of them.

"-Yet we must be aware of who we are now and the identity that our nation has. The People's Republic is a nation that has recognized the way that future nations be run we can identify with that. Their nation composes of the Luug who have been our neighbors as far back as the founding of Qartoq's manor. The Luug have been our compatriots for the longest time and helped us fight even when they could have stayed out of it. How should we honor such dutiful comradeship? With recognition of their ideals, of course-"

He saw her in the crowd. Her green eyes pierced through the crowd and locked onto him like a predator. She was striking and she knew that. Yosher felt awkward when Valeria told him that she was a courtesan by trade to which he didn't even know how to respond. She was with her client which was just an excuse for her to go see the Presidential address. She watched candidly with her arm around her client's arm some distance away on a balcony near the Hall where the President was delivering his speech outside to the people. The streets were packed but it was hard to forget a Krakari like Valeria.

"-I'm sure you are all aware that the Senate passed my call for another army to form in the south and it is important to our standing among the nations. It is also an assurance to our allies that actions will take place when the moment is right. And I am sure you are all awaiting the nation's response today and with final words I must announce that we must fulfill our debt to the Auroran Emperor and pledge support to the Commonwealth of Aurora."

The crowd erupted in a mix of cheers and jeers. It took several columns of police to hold the people back before Valerys could be escorted back inside the hall. The cabinet and senate followed soon after but not before some bottles were thrown his way. Yoshera swore he heard his name because of his connections with the Emperor. It was as he predicted but the way that the crowd erupted like that sent shivers down his spine but he looked to the President who seemed untouched by the recent turn of events. One of the senate members spoke up.

"You do know that this might mean war." Valerys looked to the senate member with lack of emotion.

"It will send a message to our territories that we are in charge. We are in charge are we not? Good. Even if it means war, then we will unite the Republic regardless of distance."

Kharolean (12 AP)

Khalorean heard a name. "Lord Titus Quinn". He decided to begin to pay attention to this one more than most others. He had been holding back for quite some time, but he was going to do something new.
A new experiment. One that the god deemed necessary. But, mercy is a part of justice. He would give him another chance. But justice is also a swift sword.

Prince Daigoro, Nova Verde, Isle of Maia

His seventh birthday had passed less than a week before but Prince Daigoro did not feel like celebrating. He sat quietly on the lawn of the palace gardens plucking blades of grass with his fingers while his mother Bo and older sister Erica knelt by a pond, placing two paper boats on the still water and carefully setting them alight before gently pushing them away. In the absence of any bodies to cremate, it was the closest the family could hold to a funeral. The Emperor quietly came up behind the boy prince and stiffly sat down besides him, placing a hand on his knee.

"How do you feel?" he asked gently. Daigoro shrugged dejectedly.

"I just miss them so much," he admitted, turning to his grandfather and laying his head on his lap, "Where do people go when they die?"

"Ah, no mortal knows for sure," Maximus replied slowly, attempting to sound authoritative, "It is said that our family and ancestors watch over us from above after they pass, granting us luck and guidance even if we may not consciously realise it," he hoped if this was true it was Kaius and Amatia watching over him, not Octavius.

"And then what?" Daigoro added quixotically, "What when they have no-one left to watch over?"

"Then," the Emperor continued, "then, they pass onto the next life. Perhaps to be reborn on this Earth again in a new body, or perhaps to live in heaven alongside the Father if they have lived an honourable life," he paused, adding when he saw Daigoro's alarmed face, "I am sure Aurelius and young Kaius will be there."

"I hope I get to meet them again," the boy prince replied quietly, wiping away a couple of tears. Maximus nodded with a saddened smile.

"Of course, I too eagerly await the day I get to meet my own brother Kaius again," he fixed his grandson with a serious gaze, "Until that day though, we must commit ourselves to our earthly duties. You inherited two important titles from your father, do you remember what they are?"

"The Prince of Oilean Uisce... and the Duke of Verde," Daigoro recited after a moment's thought. The Emperor nodded kindly.

"The people of two islands now depend on your good governance, or at-least for now, those who govern in your stead. One day that responsibility will fall solely to you. Can you handle that?"

"Yes, grandpa, I can," the young prince said confidently. Maximus smiled and rustled his hair.

"Good boy, dry your tears and go join your mother now," he sighed though as the child scampered down to the pond. He had a sinking feeling that by the time Daigoro reached maturity, for better or worse a far greater responsibility would have already fallen onto his shoulders. More pressing matters awaited though, only days earlier the armies of the People's Republic had landed in Sirigarde and western Medegarde, carving out an enclave of Octavian influence. They would have to be dealt with, or within a month the Republic could be at the shores of the Auroran Archipelago, or so his generals told him.

~

Badger, Octavian Prison, City of Xule

With no natural light in Badger's cell, days drifted into seamlessly into weeks, his only routine the regular delivery of bread and water. Half of the time he was more desperate than anything to get out of his prison, at other times he felt it was the least he deserved for failing to save Aurelius and young Kaius.

Suddenly he heard a gasp from outside his cell and glanced up, seeing that his regular jailer was standing looking in through the bars, an expression of pain and surprise etched onto his face. A moment later the guard collapsed onto the stone floor, a small figure stepping out of the gloom twirling a silver key on her index finger. The tiny blond girl smirked as she wiped away the blood spattered across her face and unlocked the cell door.

"Badger?" she asked coolly.

"Yes, that is me," Badger replied dumbly, shaking his head, "Who are you?"

"Opal, another one of Jashiki's few," she said distractedly, cocking her head as if listening for something, "Don't worry, he told me you would be here. Let's go before another guard comes," Badger nodded and followed her down the dungeon passageway, checking over his shoulder every few seconds. He recalled Jashiki telling him about a female hero but he hadn't expected her to be quite this young. She had to be a vampire he decided, no human six year old was that strong, or bloodthirsty.

"You killed that jailer?" he added, not sure whether to be impressed or horrified. Opal shrugged nonchalantly as she crept along.

"He was a bad man, he tortured people and animals for fun," she replied simply. Badger nodded, he couldn't argue with that. As they reached the entrance they passed another two fresh corpses, no comments were forthcoming. Opal took the huge man by the hand and led him quickly out of the door, across the street and into a house opposite. Badger kept looking straight ahead and avoided eye contact with passers-by, expecting to be jumped on at any moment. Once they were inside the house, several more people emerged from the gloom of the hallway, Badger momentarily flinched. "It's fine," Opal hissed, "They're with us... what are you called again?"

"We are the Ouroboros," one of the pairs said as he gave a short bow, "Jashiki has entrusted us with carrying out his bidding on this Earth. We always work in twos, one with a sword, the other with a shield,"

"Huh," Badger nodded, sitting down on a nearby chair to get his bearings back. Opal hopped up to the nearest window to peak out of the curtains.

"No-one followed us," she grinned, turning to the small group of Ouroboros, "I need to get back to my father before he realises I'm gone. Take Badger out of the city and back to the Commonwealth lands," she turned back to Badger, stepping in close so they were face-to-face, "I helped you this time for Jashiki, but my loyalty is with Wen and the Republic. Next time we meet I might have to fight you, if you're still with the Commonwealth then,"

"My loyalty is to the Emperor and his house," Badger replied firmly to the small girl, patting her on the head, "I hope it doesn't come to it but I am willing to bear arms against even one as little as you, if I must,"

"Very well," Opal wrinkled her nose in mock disgust as she disappeared out through the front door, calling back as she left, "I hope for your sake we don't either!"
