MDK was seriously underrated, it had a fantastic soundtrack, good story, unusual weapons, humorous aliens, and a title that could mean whatever you wanted it to.

I will always respond to this thread topic with the same suggestion. Tecmo's Deception. Not the original game for the ps1 which was terrible. But every sequel was more fun than almost any game out there today. And that is in the face of a lame story, awful controls, and the worst voice acting ever translated into english. Those things never mattered, because the gameplay was sublime and viscerally satisfying in a way no other game was before or has been since. If you've never heard of it, your character gets to systematically pre-meditate and murder several people per level using trap weapons that are a cross between the spanish inquision and the ACME corporation in Warner Bros. cartoons. The more elaborate and painful you can make each death, the more exp and money you get to make better and less humane trap weapons.

This Captcha is gnbuype esteemed.

Serious Sam. Yea yea there was a steam deal and a lot of people probably tried it, but BFE is probably one of the most original shooters out there in a LONG ass time. It blends the mechanics from oldschool games we love into a shiny new package.

Also Red Orchestra 2. Its more of a niche shooter, but the focus on skill and teamwork is quite incredible. Its fun to play a game where you actually have to TRY to hit a guy with every bullet you fire.

I thought Shadowrun for the SNES was good, it wasn't perfect by any means but it had a really good cyberpunk feel to it.

Also, Blast corps for N64. Really fun puzzle game that involved building demolition.

Oh and the Mother series. Great RPG, really nothing else like it.

WOW! Tons of great picks so far that I completely agree on specially the Quintet RPGs and Shadowrun SNES I love those games, but I'm here to advocate the greatness of Shadowman (N64, DC, PS1 and PC), is sort of in the style of Metroid Prime but in 3rd person and with very different themes, just play it it's awesome I believe it costs 20 $ on Ebay go with the PC or Dreamcast versions they are the best ones.
See also Re-volt it's an arcade style racing game in which you drive RC cars, it's so awesome that people are still playing it online and making mods for it even though it was released on 1999, with this one no question go for the PC version , though the other ones are good they lack multiplayer and mods.
I almost forgot, Body Harvest for the N64 was pretty awesome too, it was originally going to be the first M rated game published by Nintend but they dropped it because they're stupid, it's sort of like GTA but Sci-Fi with the setting of Apocalypse by giant bugs and even though it has very bright primary colours the music can be eerie enough at times to give it an scary atmosphere, that thing was awesome, and yes it was made by Rockstar, while we're at it the game that ended up being Ninten's first M rated game was pretty awesome too, but it's much more popular it's called Eternal Darkness pretty awesome Survival Horror, it's like if someone made Resident Evil but with a Lovecraftian theme, a good story and good controls, and I don't want to spoil the Sanity meter but try to never have it completely filled, the game is much more interesting if you don't fill it.

Penumbra 1 and 2.

Everybody's all "ohhh Amnesia is the scariest game evar!" and while I think it is better than Penumbra, I don't get how people who like Amnesia never played or even heard of Frictional's first 2 scary games.

Also, Silver

I'm also going to throw Skies of Arcadia: Legends out there because I rarely hear people mention it, and IMO it's one of the best RPGs ever made.
