The game that has aged well for me is starcraft (has to be one of us) as i go and play with one of my friends at least once every week online for the last few years, and it has never gotten old, with new RPGs, survivals and TDs adding on to the perfected original game play.

The game that hasn't aged well for me has been the sonic franchise, because the games that i played in my childhood (sonic 1,2 and 3) were awesome and still are, but the later generation of sonic games (the Black Knight, Unleashed) Have been more painful to play than in contrast to the fun that had occurred playing the original games.

Half life, for a last gen game it looks like its from this gen.

Virtua Fighter, I cringe everytime I those early 3D models.
I agree with the Half-life one, but only if you throw in the HD pack that came with Blue Shift. Otherwise, that just looks nasty

Oh, and Deus Ex and KotOR aged well. Tekken Tag Tournament, however...

Games that have aged well:
Most great games with 2D graphics: Fallout 1&2, Starcraft (hell, even Warcraft 2), Diablo 2.
Games that haven't:
Games with reletively early 3D graphics.
Sums it up pretty well. 2D games will keep their charm forever.

Battlefield 1942 didn't age well even though it was a good game, but due to it's by far superior followers, BF2 makes BF1942 sit on the shelf and gather dust, it's just taken everything good from 1942 and added tons of new stuff.
I begg to differ.

With everything in full detail BF 1942 still looks pretty decent.

Dragon Warrior 7 was basically aged the day it came out. Strong gameplay, but I think it's archaic look, considering it came out in 2001, doomed it to American sales mediocrity.

Aged well? Pokemon. The series still remains fun. Old or new games.

Aged badly? Final Fantasy 4. It was the first game in the series with a deep plot, but it seems shallow compared to later titles.

Aged well...hm, that's a tough one. There's so many classic games that I could mention in this category. I think I'd have to give it to Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. This is still the blueprint for how to do a good 3D Zelda game. Majora's Mask, a rare case of Zelda direct sequels, was a lot like its predecessor but had a number of different gameplay elements that I thought took the Ocarina of Time method and brought new things to the table, like how you spent the three days and the mask gameplay. A shame that the sailing aspect of Wind Waker killed any hope of more forward movement with a Master Sword to the nostrils.

As for aged badly, I think I'm gonna give this one to the entirety of the Superman franchise in games. Superman's supposed to have only Kryptonite as his weakness, but evidently "bad games" should be added to that list. He just can't seem to make a good game, no matter how hard the Man of Steel tries. Admittedly, superhero games have had a less-than-favorable ride on game consoles, but of all the superhero games, Batman seems to have had the most favorable ride on consoles. Well, more favorable than every other superhero, anyway. But anyway, Superman just can't seem to get a good game going, and the day I see him wash the stink of Superman 64 off him is the day I see The Dark Knight get the Oscar it deserved (SCREW YOU, SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE!). Sorry, Supes. Gaming ain't your thing.

I think that Super Mario World has weathered the passage of time really well, the graphics do look basic but they still have a real charm about them, the music and sounds are catchy and pleasent and the gameplay is still brilliant and feels just as good now as it did twenty years ago.

A game I loved but has aged really, really badly is Goldeneye. The game will forever stand as a clssic for the influence it had on console FPS games and for how great it was but compared to newer games it just looks and feels like a mess. The biggest killer is the almost crippling slowdown it experiences when ever there's an explosion or more than half a dozen enemies get into the screen.

aged well? Fallout 2. still tons of fun. same for Baldurs Gate 2.
as for aging poorly.. final fantasy 7. first time i played it. it was amazing. i tried to play it again a year ago and i just couldnt... i might have to try again. i find alot of games with sequels where the graphics and gameplay vastly improve upon the previous relseaes... often obsolete the earlier games. (unless they fail to improve upon the previous and instead make something completely different... or something worse)

Super Mario World for the SNES and the original Pokemon games aged very well. Still just as entertaining as they ever were.

I would say Super Mario 64 is a game that has aged well since I can still play it and legitimately enjoy it.

On the other hand Super Smash Bros hasn't aged well because the novelty of it quickly wore off.

Well:
The Zelda games do tend to hold up well. Another one that still seems fun each time I revisit is Prince of Persia, Sands of Time.

Not Well:
I was surprised how badly Duke Nukem 3D aged... I had so many fond memories of it, and the other day when I tried to revisit it, I could not even get through the first level it was so dated and lame. Duke Nukem is definately NOT FOREVER (only as vaporware)
I agree Duke Nukem really got hit hard but the humour is still quality. I trield playing Medal of Honor allied assault recently and that had nothing redeemable. Nostalgia painted it really nicely in my head until I played it again. Then I thought YUCK...

Freelancer has aged well, after playing through the Single player i found a great community who have kept the game alive and even expanded it with the Discovery Mod, it is brilliant.

I dont think fighting games have aged well, i find myself only comming back to see what the characters are upto... but really.. only gimmicks have been tacked onto ven better graphics ever since i started playing tekken.

pluss me being from Norway i only played it on an emulator a few years ago after i found the DragonQuest (dragon warrior 8) game on ps2.
mabye i would think diferently about it if i played it when it came out.

oh and i forgot: another great PS1 game The Legend Of Dragoon, came out of nowhere and became (for me at least) the only JRPG that rivaled Final Fantasy on the PS1.
