It's never happened. Guess that's a benefit from taking a name from a really obscure game, then changing it ever so slightly.

The downside is on VOIP noone can frigging pronounce it.

It doesn't really bother me too much seeing as there are many people with the surname "Ward" who have the nickname "Wardy".

It only bothers me (mildly) when they register the name and then never use the bloody site! This has happened once or twice.

I absolutely refuse to tack random numbers on the end of my nickname because doing that is about as original as modern pop music.

Once, just for shits and giggles, inquired about the car numberplate "W4RDY". Someone with a Merc paid £7100 for it...considering that the prices of all the cars I have ever bought don't add up to that much, I wont bother trying to buy it any time soon!

Wardy
PS Just worked it out and my total expenditure on car purchases stands at £4390. I'm on my 7th car now...

Usually it just means I've already made an account there. However, some things like Yahoo and Hotmail accounts are just ridiculous. You might as well use a password generator to choose a name.

I've been using this screen name for a year or two and haven't had to worry about it being taken.

I'm surprised RaphaelsRedemption is free most of the placs I go.

It's been pretty easy to take for email, sites and gamertags.

I didn't make it up either - I was given it :)

I use 4 or 5 names over the websites I use but none of them have ever been stolen.

I see mine around now and then but since It's not really original it doesn't bother me. In fact there is another Cheesus on this site.

Has this ever happend to any of you out there, you use the same screen name for like 10 diffrent games, a dozen or so websites, then you go to fill it in on another website or game and it comes up:

This user name is already in use.

I wont post my commonly used name here because it will provoke the trolls that inhabit any forum to steal it just to cause grief, but my name was stolen by someone here at The Escapist.....some one here has wronged me.

Its not like I use a name from a comic book or anime or anything, I dont go by Naruto666 or Ichigo or anything from popular entertainment. I deep down believe that people have seen my common screen name and said "thats cool, Ima steal that."

I seriously have considered trademarking my name.......

Thoughts, opinions, personal experiences on the matter? Has your good name been stolen lately?
Well I personally have never had my name stolen because it's just so special and......wait....
... those last two syllables......Weasel...............Wea...........YOU BASTARD, you stole the last two syllables in my name.

RIGHT, just for that, I'm going to hunt you down and when I find you, I'm going to do things to you that would make even the devil squirm.

you have a two minute head start while I go and find my cheese knife.
I find it more likly that you stole the last two syllables, I have been useing Weasel based names since before 1998, were I used the name Wild_Weasel, based on the GI Joe cartoons character Wild Weasel, and people started useing it, I since started a diffrent Weasel based name since people started useing it.

Did you know that I had a Game Spy account for Baldur's gate, but my account expired (they did that) and when I went to re-register my account name, it was in use.

So I have been (Something) Weasel, or Weasel (Something) for over 12 years now. Being genraly awesome has made the Weasel name popular I supose and ultimatly I am to blame for copy-cats.

So there, unless you have been using Weasel for 12 years, then you got it from me, deal with it.

BTW, when you do eventually hunt me down, you will find I live in Texas, and I will be more than happy to fight your cheesecake knife (lol, btw) skills with my cheesecake gun skills. Its Texas, we have guns for every occasion.

It happened once when it was stolen by the game Sin. (I used to go by the handle "SynTek", which to be fair is a minor variation on a brand of oil). I was mildly annoyed but got over it. Later I changed it to what you see here and I have yet to see any conflict.

My name has never been taken so far. Although it may well be stolen now I've said that. But I have it on PSN so I couldn't care less.

Ive never had that issue with my online handle. Not many people know Eddie Izzard or if they do not enough to use his last name in there screen name.

Huh, until I actually went searching earlier (as part of the Google Imagewhack Your Username thread), I though I'd managed a solid decade and a half of uniqueness, putting shame to all those above saying "I made my username this and someone stole it, wah!".

Only to find it's actually a semi-common arabic surname. I made it up myself in the 90s by mangling some other word... (can you guess which, pfft).

And someone on Bebo has actually taken it. They're the first that I've seen however, and I'm not really bothered because ... well, who uses a pseudonym on socnet sites? It seems heavily counterproductive.

Can't use my real name BTW, because a/ I'm terrified of identity fraud or someone I've offended coming and beating crap out of me, b/ of the, what, three or four other people in the world who have it (mine is an uncommon english/welsh/dutch surname), one of them is a moderately well known road-race cyclist, so there's plenty of chance for confusion or pre-empting.
(as far as a/ goes, I used to happily tie this ID to my RL persona, but I'm now seeing the value of keeping them seperate and trying to cut some of the links... with varying degress of success)

Can't use the first online handle I came up with because a/ it's possibly offensive to some people, b/ the email address tied to it got deleted by yahoo for inactivity (without warning!), c/ I actually took it from one of the two lead characters on a BBC show (at the time, a cult and rarely-repeated one, but nowadays doing regular rounds on UK Gold) and therefore it HAS been name-sniped several times.

So I'm going to stick with this one, until at some point I can come up with something else.
