So, it's been maybe a decade and I'm still unable to find a beloved game from my childhood. Actually, I still don't even know its name. That's why I need your help! I'll list some facts I remember and anything you could offer in aid of me finding the title would be greatly appreciated.

i. It was on the PC
ii. It must have come out around 1992 and before 2001
iii. It was an RTS or something similar that involved controlling large amounts of units to defeat an enemy
iv. It involved (I think) only robots
v. There was a unit called "Spy" that could turn invisible and hide from enemy detection
vi. I think there was a way to play from one of the unit's perspective
vii. I don't particularly remember gathering resources, but I'm not sure
viii. I think one of the very first missions in the campaign took place in a forest and you started with a handful of units

Do you recognize this game? Let me know!

Do you have any games you just can't remember the name of? Tell us. Maybe we can help.

Mmm to me it sound like the game "Total Annihilation"
i. It's a Pc game.
ii. It was out in 1997.
iii. It's a RTS game.
iv. The units are all robot/ machine.
v. Not sure about the name althought I think there was a unit or two that can turn invisible
vi. I don't think you can do that in the game.
vii. There were some resorces gather but it was easy (find the metal ore and build a factory on top of it).
viii. I think it was when you play as the faction Arm you start in the forest level with a handful of units (their homeworld).

I'm not sure. It's been so long it's hard to tell. Neither of those games seem like the one I'm after from some images I'm looking at.

Grrrr. I'm beginning to think unless I see a part of the game that I remember exactly I'll never know.

Thank you for your posts. I will keep checking both of them out.

Sounds like the Battlezone Series, probably Battlezone 2. That's the only RTS, FPS hybrid involving only Robots in that time period I remember. Was it polygonal 3D, or 3D like Doom 2 was?

Don't think it's that one. The graphics don't look right. My game is definitely 3D.

Thanks for trying!

Looking at Battlezone 2 now. Not sure... It seems close maybe. Hmmm... I'll have to look into this one too.

It was proper 3D I think.

That looks close in style, but wrong in graphics; my game was more... 3D. Like, you could move the camera right down to the ground and watch the robots move around in 3D space.

Well, I'm not very familiar with RTS's so here's a link to a list of every RTS ever. [http://rakrent.com/rtsc/rtsc_gameslist2.htm] It may be a shotgun approach to the problem, but, hell, it's an effective one.

Let me know if that helps at all.

That games sounds very fimilar, hmm. It sounds similer to a game that i got when i got my windows 95. The robots were standing up mechs that were built from a factory... So vague, the game was so long ago. I think it was called mech something, but it definently was not mech warrior/commander. I remember a lot of blue coloured mechs too, but that could be just because i went blue...

Sorry if i can't be any more helpfull.

How about Ground Control?

That was a great 3D RTS which started in a forest. It had infantry (looked like powered armour), tanks, 'copters and other vehicles. Did not involve resource collection. Released in 2000.

Hmmm... That could actually be it. Not sure.

One thing I remember vividly was hiding with my spy. I had taken her out to the ocean and was just hovering there in stealth. That was my last unit left.

It looks close, but I just can't tell. It doesn't click with me, but it has been a long time.
