So long story short, I came home from some friends' house, and my family has surprised me with a puppy. I know quite know the reason for why the puppy is in the house, but I'm not going to shun it.

However, we need a name. We already have two bigger dogs, both with quite unique names. My Boy Dog, Baron, came from the video game Tomba! (Your dog is named Baron for you).

My sister's Dog, Gypsy, came from my sister not coming up with anything much more different than names that sounded like stripper aliases.

Long and short, we need a name for this puppy, and if I get a second, I'll try to post pics to help along your decision.

It is a girl puppy, red heeler/Blue Heeler Mastiff, so many weeks old.

I'll be back shortly, hopefully.
I'll suggest the best name for all pets... Dave

Dave is the least suitable name for a pet and therefore the best.

My family's standard policy with naming pets (or children for that matter) is to name them after a dead relative. Worked so far.

DO NOT

Name it something generic (rex, shep)
Name it something overcommon (http://www.dogfacts.org/popular-dog-names.htm)
Name it something "funny"
Name it something overlong
Name it mr anything
Name it after an ex, or current partner

DO

allow a child to name it (they are original)
name it something you can call out it public
feel free to change it's name later on

Oh, a puppy. That is so cool. I miss having pets and my landlord won't allow me to keep any.

Would you post a picture. Pretty pretty please?

Namewise, something from the Bible or Norse mythology like Samson or Loki. Or you could even go all ironic and call him Mr. Kitty.

I called my dog Rosie, partly because the pub I go in now and again demanded she was named after the pub, but mainly because my housemate's girlfriend was also called Rosie. Had lots of fun telling Rosie to "get the hell out of my bed you hussy... etc."

Anyway, saw Heeler - thought Ankle.

"Banjo" - [small]the only video-game related one I could think of that would work; anything else (like "Dovahkiin," for example) sounds like it would get old real fast[/small]
"Lady" - [small]for a hint of sophistication[/small]
"Starbuck" - [small]after the Battlestar Galactica character, not the coffee franchise[/small]
"Trixie"
"Rosie"

Hope this helps.

Name it after some classic rock artist.

Joan Jett?

Okay, so there aren't a lot of classic rock names that work for female dogs. So pick an ambiguous name. Maybe...

Aerosmith?
Foreigner?
Yes?
Tull?
Straits?
Cream?
Creedence?

Name it Shazbot.
Awesome. Awesome to the max.
If only I had time to play some Tribes: Ascend right now... *sigh*

OT: Name her Winona and train her to herd cattle (and bunnies). ^^

name it cat.

or if that don't work, name it after what it does.
i have a dog that loves tug-o-war: Tug
another gallops when she runs, and is kinda small: Pony (named years before the MLP:FiM thing)
the third is highly bouncy and is a poodle crossed with a golden: Pogo

of course, i am of the opinion that all names should be meaningful, so this system is not for the best.

I'll throw my hat in the ring with "Slartibartfast".

On a more serious note:

Macha
Niamh
Eostre
Sigrun
Freyja (pronounced "Fray-ya")
Sif

If you can't tell, I generally reference ancient myths for pet names.

[HEADING=1]Ammy![/HEADING]

Name her Ammy!

I swear if you don't call her Ammy, I will track you down and strangle you with your own intestines!
