Naming your character

In games like, for say, most RPGs (such as Oblivion, Dungeon Seige, Diablo, World of Warcraft, bla bla etc), where you get to create a custom character and come up with a name of your choice, out of curiosity, how do you think when naming your character?

I've noticed, playing online games such as WoW, that there's a huge gap between how people chose to name their characters. There are people who name their characters after themselves, people who stay very "RPG-ish" in their choice of name (among which I count myself, to a large), people who come up with witty names (such as a priest named Learntopray (which really made me laugh the first time I saw it)) and people who name their character after the first thing that pops up in their head or just something ridiculous in general (names such as Trampman, Drugface, Coffeecup)

- Some of my characters names refer to;
Illion - is a reference to the city of Troy, also known as Ilion
Azaradel, Arakiba - names of fallen angels
Umbrielian - means "shadows" in latin (as a show of what a dumb choice of a name this is, people think it has to do with umbrellas)
Magatsuhi - named after a bad guy from a manga, the name was translated to "God of Death"

Though the name I'm the most proud of will always be my Diablo 2 barbarian named Barbarpappa, after a cartoon figure called Barbapappa

I'm not very creative; I usually just use my name, or "Ellimist" as that is my game name for most games. Occasionally I throw in Todeshandler, which I believe is German for "death-dealer," but I could be totally wrong as I just read it in a book somewhere.

For gamer tags I like Fluffylandmine or I_smell_Badly*(something involving those three words in that order).

For characters I like names like Jive M. Turkey, coffeecup is a nice one.

*I really can only smell 2 things, cherries and fire. Hence the clever grammatical name.

Depends on the character.

I use Onraq for my knightly characters, Antony for casters, Huginn for clerics, and Jarm for rangerish folk.

I rarely stray from my actual name, Steve, or my Gamertag, Sweep117, but for KotOR I mixed things up a little, going with Revan Daywalker. ("Revan" is from the game itself and "Daywalker" is a nickname I earned at work for switching from the night shift to the day shift.)

Outside of those I'm really not very original. I like consistency.

I have a few Oblivion characters. I generally stay within the lore (giving elven names to elves, Nordic names to Nords, French names to Bretons, and that sort of thing) but couldn't resist naming an Argonian "Stand-Up Chameleon" because as soon as I created the character I used the player.setAV Chameleon 100 cheat.

Eh....I have some that I came up with

Mr. Nightmares
Grazzlefang
(Those also happen to be my other Xbox account names)

But for MMOs or online RPGs I go with something about the Character like "Hero of the Arrows" for a ranger or Ivy Nightfire for a female spell caster.

Dull thread...
Posting for the sake of another post count, perhaps?
I notice you're post count is at thirty-ONE now, eh, Azaredel? *nudge nudge* ;)
Oh snap! I've been found out!

On a side note; I just remembered one of the worst names I've ever seen in an online game: JesusBadman
