I would like to point out that I jumped on the Firefly bandwagon only a couple of years ago, but good God, that show is still amazing. Time has not taken anything away from it. And Nathan Fillion is an awesome actor.

Ah, the "should it/should it not come back on air?" Firefly debate. Y'know, I read an article a while back that said many TV shows often take the animated route for budget constraints and actor availability. The article noted that shows like Archer are must easier and cheaper to produce because of this, and it instantly made me realise that an animated Firefly would be the perfect way to go. All the actors like Fillion and Baccarin wouldn't have to step out of their roles in ongoing shows, and it'd be far more likely to be green-lit by a station because it's so cheap.

Also, it'd be awesome. Plus the fans couldn't rightly complain. Animated Firefly would be better than no Firefly at all.
I would follow that until the end of time.

Oooor until they cancelled it. But still. Nathan Fillion.

where i lived they aired firefly a few years after buffy finished so i watched the first ep and freaked out that the nutter serial killer priest is the lead character.. he plays evil and nutter a bit too well
Ditto. I remember thinking that there was no way in hell I was going to be able to accept him as the "hero" of a series after that smug,self-righteous, woman hating conduit of all evil; 10 minutes into Firefly and I could never take him seriously in Buffy anymore because I liked Mal so much. A good example of how great writing and acting can completely manipulate your emotions.

They did drop the ball by not giving Fillian and Boreanez any dialogue together though; that could have been up there with the hilarity of the arguments with Spike in Angel seaon 5.

It's always good to hear what Nathan Fillion has to say I guess.

But where was the news here exactly?

I like Firefly... even though I didn't get into it until after it went off the air...

It'd be kinda weird to return to the show now after all this time... though an animated version sounds interesting...

The problem with a return to Firefly is the Movie.

Do we acknowledge it or does it get written out of continuity or do we set the return before the movie? Which would have little mystery to it cause we already know whats going to happen.

Hell you could never get attached to Wash again cause, well y'know....

Firefly should stay dead.

I say that as someone who enjoys it, owns it on DVD, and doesn't want to see it go the way of every other SciFi ever made - Who wants to see Firefly 10 seasons down the line when the ideas have dried up and they're pulling every storyline they can out of their arse?

I mean, I used to like Stargate when I was younger, it just got retarded in the last few seasons, and the less said about Atlantis and that other one I can't be arsed to google the name of, the better.

Animated Firefly you say? [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/CowboyBebop]

What? It's a space western too!
Hmm....I wander what would happen if one were to take Cowboy Bebop and it's characters, and take Firefly and it's characters. Then call back the entire original cast of both (The Firefly cast would be VA's) and make an animated movie?

While that may be true, and I love that anime to bits, it doesn't have Fillion.

Close, but no cigar.
Pretty much this, but Cowboy Bebop also has a distinct lack of Adam Baldwin.

I vehemently disagree. I leapt head first onto the firefly bandwaggon about a year after it was cancelled. And I too thought it was awesome. I tried watching it again recently and by god... This thing has not aged well. In fact I would go so far to say that most of it is borderline unwatchable. Truely cringeworthy.

I can still just about tolerate the film, but this show absolutely should not come back. Comebacks are a bad idea. Just look at what happened to Futurama...

Firefly can do what Guns and Roses could not: if it remains as the show it is, with the single cult classic movie attached, then we'll never have to suffer a "Chinese Democracy" analog for the show. Beyond that, it's been long enough that I don't want more Firefly. Everything there is of it is golden, and now it will always be golden. I love it as much as anyone, but I feel more at this point would just hurt the series.

Firefly: Calm before the storm

First 6-8 seasons: Full back stories/adventures for the main crew, ending with them joining the crew of serenity. Then have their first adventures, getting to know each other etc, each character introduced in order (minus the Doctor and River.)

Then Firefly as we know it, then after that have leading up to the movie.

Done. So many stories behind each character, the war, everything. Please, there is PLENTY they could do to continue the story, they literally have an entire universe to explore.

So is there a currently successful, high-quality animated series aimed at adults that isn't primarily a comedy or satire? Archer, The Simpsons, South Park, Seth McFarlane's shows, the better Adult Swim offerings--they are or were all good shows, but all basically half-hour sitcoms. Has anyone pulled off a decent one-hour drama as an animated series? And I'm not counting anime.
