I am really sorry, but i really couldn't come up with a better topic name for this one.
So i was thinking about the game my country produced and i noticed quite some patterns. The basice question of this thread is: What's yours? What kind of games does your country produce? Do you see a pattern? Do you like it?
I think, sadly, since their pretty much the standart i will have to exclude Americans obviously, i hope you don't mind.
So i will start with my county: Germany.
We Germans, in my opinion, tend to focus more heavily on certain aspects of a game. This results in games being very strong in certain aspects, but sometimes having big issues in others. Also we tend to like more complex games.
Both points often result in games that most players either love or hate. For example games like Anno do economy better than any other strategy game, but are very much lacking in military aspecty, which puts a lot of people of.
Another example are piranha bytes games. Their games tend to have issues, exspecially in animation quality, but i have yet to find any game that does exploration as good as piranha bytes games. While often a grindy and boring aspect of many games to me, i enjoy it quite a bit in piranha bytes games, like risen, mostly because there's something to find everywhere. It might not be much, but you will always feel like it has been worth it.

Like...video games? Sorry, the OP is very vague and confusing.

Haven't played any Irish video games recently (to my knowledge)
Ah, yes i mean video games.
If you have any examples of other mediums you're of course welcome to share them, too.
This Thread may be a little out of place because i don't really know how much nationality represents itself in the games being made in that country. I noticed a certain pattern for a lot of german games, but that doesn't mean there's such a pattern for other countries. It's mostly curiosity.

Finnish games don't really have any national characteristics. I mean, do Max Payne and Angry Birds have anything in common?
Alan Wake and Trine?

I guess I should point out that motor racing is a huge thing in Finland and arguably one of the biggest Finnish studios, Bugbear Entertainment, has developed many racing games... Actually, they haven't made anything else. They made the first three FlatOut-games and I think it's the most overlooked racing game series. Bugbear also developed the last two Ridge Racer-games.

The fact that arguably the most famous video game in the world, Angry Birds, is Finnish-made is rather funny to me... And also kind of sad.

Scotland? Scotland?

All we make is greasy food, alcohol and man-skirts, and most of our population are an interesting specimen known as "chavs".

Game Developers in the United States much like the United States itself is very much a mish-mash of multiple cultures thrown together, so it's not incredibly accurate to narrow down specific trends or patterns, especially given the enormous size of the American Game Industry.

Now you can tend to compare certain genre stylings, like JRPG vs. Western RPG but even then "Western" practically applies to any non-Asian country, not just America.

So really this thread can only apply to countries that have a smaller game industry than places like the United States, Japan, or even Canada & Great Britain.

Except Rockstar North, which is based in Edinburgh, is responsible for the Grand Theft Auto franchise.

And the best-selling and critically acclaimed series of all-time in Grand Theft Auto. There's also been Manhunt, Lemmings, the Crackdown games, APB:Reloaded, the hugely successful port of Minecraft on Xbox 360 (amongst other ports that 4J have done, inclduing Banjo-Kazooie).

Then there's GameMaker, which has been used to create games including Hotline Miami.

Hell, even the ZX Spectrum was manufactured in Scotland.

So we have plenty to proud about on the video games front.

Killzone, Overlord, Awesomenauts, Toki Tori, De Blob...

Sorry, I can't find any truly Dutch game development characteristics. :D

Hmmm... Australia. Well, Australian's have made a lot of smaller indie games, on iOS and Android and the like, such as Fruit Ninja. So I suppose colourful, simple, fun and bloody addictive.
