I'm doing some overtime and pretending like I'm working when I decide that Dr Horrible's Sing-Along Blog would be an excellent way to pass the time.

For the five of you who haven't seen it, watch this. Seriously...it's long but I can guarantee that if you give it five minutes, you'll either love it like a normal person and watch it all or...well...I'm not sure what else you'd do for I've never met anyone who doesn't love it.

Anyway, the point of this thread is this; a specific song in the show is what got me thinking of this:

Listening to NPH sing and hitting those high notes made me really really really really REALLY wish that I could sing.

So Escapist friends; what natural talent do you wish you had? Do you wish you could run incredibly fast? Do you wish you could sing like I wish? Do you wish you had a quick wit? Do you wish that you could burp the entire alphabet? Do tell!

I really wish I had good eyesight. I don't really mind wearing glasses most of the time, but I really don't like wearing contact lenses, and there's a lot of stuff that I love doing that I just can't do in glasses, like practicing martial arts.

Not sure if that counts as a natural talent though.

Not sure if this counts as a talent, but I wish I was ambidextrous. My left hand is so uncoordinated compared to my right, it feels like trying to control someone else's hand with puppet strings.

I wish I could draw manga...I'm practicing but I really wish I had more natural talent at it.

I'm not sure your age (or more importantly, your financial status) but I have had multiple people tell me that LASIK (the laser eye surgery) is one of the best investments they've ever made and I personally will be having LASIK (well, PRK technically but it's a similar surgery with similar results).

I play soccer but I can't wear contact lenses so I'm in a similar boat that you're in. Might be worth checking out :)

I do so wish that I had at least a little skill in drawing. I wish I could draw so bad but suck monumentally at it. If I could have at least the skill to draw people then I'd be set for life.

I would very much like to get something like that done, and I do have the money to do so, but I'm waiting for now. Lasik, and operations like it, haven't been around for very long, only about 15 years (LASIK started being used in the US in 1998 if I'm not mistaken), so I'd like to wait a little while longer and see what the long term results of it are like.

Also my optometrist recently hypothesized that I may have thin corneas (I won't know for sure for another 4 months, until I get my next checkup), so in that case the operation that they would do for me would be phakic intraocular lens, instead of Lasik or PRK, and with that operation there's a decently high chance of getting cataracts after the surgery, which would make me worried about doing it.

I'd love to be really charismatic, the type that can just yammer complete and utter horseshit at clever folks who should know better and just make them agree that yes, an excess of mole rats is causing all the earthquakes or whatever craziness I feel like going on about.

I've heard that you have to get a touch up every 10 years or something like that or your eyes get worse. Is that true?

Probably a mis-quote...

Unless you're wondering if Staika's drawing skills fall apart every ten years, I am going to go ahead and assume you meant to ask me this since it's a common Lasik question :)

From what I've been told, any place worth it's reputation will give you life-time touch-ups. Like everything in life, your eyes do slowly deteriorate over time. According to the brochure thingy I got at the clinic, this generally begins in your late 30's/early 40's. Around this time, your eyes just lose strength and it's likely that you'll need adjustments (and there's a good chance that you'll still need reading glasses even after Lasik once you become older).

I hope this helps, though I would recommend finding someone who didn't just get all of his info from the brochure at a Lasik clinic :D

I wish I could comprehend various forms of mathematics. I've had trouble since about 4th or 5th grade and don't know how I managed to graduate high school. Apparently there's a form of dyslexia attributed to people who can't comprehend arithmetic, algebra etc but I can't claim to have it quite yet. I don't see myself using math very often but it's one of those things I'd like to be able to understand.

If I were more charming, it would make things easier while advancing up my career of choice.

No matter. I'll have to make do with practiced skill and my own chaotic creativity. Hopefully I won't go bankrupt before I'm 30! :D

I wish I had people skills.

Interacting with other people besides my direct family is a tremendously exhausting affair for me. Eventhough on the surface I might seem to be doing okay, beneath it all I'm a spin cycle of confussion, fear, and embarrassment.

I also wish I had the motivation and patience to really start making drawings again and see them through to the end.

I also wish I could sing. I'm an actor, see, and while I'm quite good not being able to sing somewhat limits the rolesI can take.

Being able to draw comicbook wise. Sure I was great at art but not when it come to drawing comicbook/ managa people or structure. I just lack the will and the patience to keep on praticing throughout the years.

Not sure if it counts as a talent but I'd love to have better motivation. Everything else I've tried like writing, music etc has improved if I put time in, but I don't think I've ever been able to consistently motivate myself.

I wish I could draw. Animation in particular has always intrigued me and fascinated me and I've been reading up on it a lot lately. But I can't draw worth a damn in the first place, and quite frankly, I don't really have the patience to make a good drawing or learn how.
