My Mum's birthday is coming up soon and i want to get her either a PC or DS game. Only problem is I don't know which one to get.

She likes Planets vs Zombies but other Pop Cap games are too simple.

She likes Professor Layton but second doesn't come out for a while. Games like it would be good. She didn't mind New Super Mario Bros either.

In general she likes thinking/puzzle games that aren't too hard. She finds Greybrush annoying so doesn't want Moneky Island.

Any recommendations?

Has she played the Ace Attorney games? I recommend those to...well, everyone. Currently four out. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, Phoenix Wright: Justice for All, Phoenix Wright: Trials and Tribulations and Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney (in that order).

How about Cooking Mama? (its got mama in it)

Or for a more serious recommendation, try any Sims game.

The Touch Detective series. Susan loves it, so it must be good. ;)

Failing that, either wait out for Scribblenauts if it comes before her birthday, or Phoenix Wright.

I was going to suggest Braid, but it's not exactly easy. Scibblenauts would be good if you can get it before her birthday. How about something like Darwinia? Or Portal?

Scribblenauts seems to fit the bill-

Scrabble.
OK, in all seriousness, maybe Myst? The game is satanically hard, but a classic and a surprising amount of fun.

If she likes Layton, why not pre-order the next one or give her an IOU for it? Not super now, but when it does come out she'll probably enjoy it more than some game suggested by a complete stranger.

Her birthday is Septmeber the 1st so Scribblenauts is just a bit on the late side.

Braid is much to difficult for her. I need something more casual.

Portal... If she's into that kind of stuff... you know... cakes...
Also it'd be awesome to make a joke about cakes when having people over.

when i was desperate to try and get my mother to understand my passion for gaming and why i use half my income on games i tried giving her the secret of monkey island (tm) : special edition, it was the first game beside solitaire she ever bothered to play more than 10min of and she loved it, i would try getting her that or as previous mentioned scribblenauts pre purchased.
