I have $20 worth of disposable income and am very, very bored. I just got a new laptop that can practically run everything, and I'd really like a new game for it given I have a 2 hour layover between classes in which it's not really in my best interest to go all the way back home to play on my desktop.

So here are the requirements:

1) Must be cheap (<$20)
2) Must have single player (school internet sometimes sucks during the day)
3) Must be easy to play with a laptop touchpad (i.e. no shooters/RTS/clickfest)
4) Must be a PC game

I already have (and have played through) Oblivion, KotOR 1/2, everything on the infinity engine (Torment, BG, IWD), SMAC and Civ 4, etc

I tend to enjoy RPGs, TBSs, and loathe "adventure" and racing games.

Hit me.

Steam. Go to the front page, click "games under $5/$10" and see anything that catches the eye.

For your requirements, I say a turn-based game, like Total War (Well, if you consider it that) or Civ, or Point-and-click adventure games, like Sam & Max or Monkey Island.

EDIT: Forgot:

Total War is usually around $20-$30, Civ (depending on which one) is either dirt cheap or expensive, a few Sam & Max games are cheap (actually, one is free on Steam) and Monkey Island should be in your price range.

Go on GOG.com and find any good cRPG. They're long, not physically demanding and usually have great stories.

Do you like RTSs?

Some of the older Command and Conquer titles are freeware now. Here, I'll post a link.

MINECRAFT, its still first person but it dosnt require too much movement so it might be ok
also maybe an action rpg like torchlight, titan quest or diablo 2, torchlight requires the least ammount of mouse movement but isnt as good as titan quest
and peggle, plants vs zombies thats all i can think of at the moment but i can post if i think of any more, you should try demos before you buy aswell

I came here because I did all of the above (I can't stand Evil Genius or Monkey Island, for different reasons, I just don't like them). Nothing on Steam seems appealing but if you have something specific to change my mind I'm all for it, and I have most of the good games from GoG.

If the trackpad is the only option I'd say go with something maybe like audiosurf...especially if you have a lot of music on your laptop

hmmmm.... you can get Bioshock for real cheap these days... though it is a shooter.. BUT it does have a twist!! definitely worth buying if you haven't already played it (though most people on here have)

RPGs have more depth than "Pick up star shaped key and put it in star shaped hole". I played Maniac Mansion back on NES and liked it, but every adventure game I've tried since seems like it's just been a retread of that motif.

Also RE: the pad:

I can play a good amount of games on it, I just find it's not precise enough for shooting or RTS play. I can play League of Legends decently, I've been trying out LotRO without any problems, and I've done KotOR and DA:O easily through abuse of the pause feature (same goes for BG), but that was on my old laptop, I'm looking for something new.

Depends on how old a game you want, as since someone mentioned GOG the ones I would pick up within your tastes would be like so:

TBS: Jagged Alliance 2, MOO I&II (stay away from 3), M.A.X. (very interesting AI in this one), and I have heard good things about Age of Wonders.

RPG: I'd say Fallout 1, 2 & Tactics along with the Might & Magic collection should be playable with a track pad.

Beyond that, I definitely will third the suggestion for Audiosurf.

The only thing I could recommend would be I wanna be the Guy, for the low price of free.

Dwarf Fortress.

In the event you haven't heard of it:

-Sim/strategy game, with a rouge-like RPG mode

-Relies more on keyboard than mouse.

-Is free (so you'll still have $20 to spend on something else)

-It's awesome! [http://lparchive.org/LetsPlay/Boatmurdered/intro.html]
