I recently upgraded my pc from a 2.2GHz, single core piece of crap with a GeForce 6150, to a 2.3GHz Quad-Core PC with 4gigs of ram and a G100. This actually allowed me to play TF2 on high, but, for some reason...

Every minute or so, the game freezes for about two seconds. Considering my favourite map is orange, and favourite class is sniper, this rewards me with instant and painful death. Anyone got any idea what's up?

Did you have a Compaq Presario sr2030nx? Those were my specs before I upgraded.

Also, what model of a 100?
Had a compaq, no idea what type.

The graphics card? The G100 256Mb, but I'm sure it's not a card issue, as this didn't happen with my 6150, the worst graphics card I've ever encountered.

Is your internet connection up to snuff? You can have the best computer in the world but if the data isn't getting from the server to your box in a timely fashion you will experience "temporal hiccups".

[edit]
Try playing durring non peak hours and see if you experience the same problem. Peak hours are between 6-11pm where every one and their Mom is checking email, surfing Youtube, or Gaming.

Connection's fine. It's definitely a hardware issue, it didn't happen on a faaaaaaaar worse PC.

Holy contradiction Batman!!

Just because this new card is "better" doesn't mean it's not at fault. If you change something and that causes problems, then try to isolate what change caused the problem. If your processor, RAM, etc. are working fine, then the graphics card seems the logical thing to blame.

One thing to consider is your power supply. If you aren't providing enough power for all this new hardware, it could cause problems.

I don't know if they're working fine. I'm asking if anyone knows, not if anyone's going to point out another question.

No, it's a whole new computer I bought. The whole thing from PC World.

Try doing a little work for yourself. From your extremely short description, nobody will be able to diagnose the problem. Try googling "hardware check" and you'll find plenty of utilities that can check for hardware problems.

Try updating drivers or checking TF2 forums for any known software conflicts or bugs that would cause this problem.

I hate it when people come into a forum and ask a vague question without doing at least a little bit of research on their own. I especially hate when those people are ungrateful for someone trying to help troubleshooting their problem.

You uninstalled all the unnecessary crap they bundle with it?

Assuming you still have the old graphics card, and it fits on your new mobo. You could swap out the new one, and put in the old one.
If the problem persists, you'll at least have eliminated a possible cause.
If the problem goes away, it could be that the new card is broken, or the mobo's pci-express slot bit is broken (assuming the old card is an AGP card), or the Powersupply might be to weak/broken.

Either way, some new info regarding the problem is gained.

Even if it is a fresh install you should varify game files and defrag them (options menu in steam under right click)

This helped for me when I had it last year.

This just occured to me, have you tried other games (source based/online or otherwise)? Cause if it's just a TF2 problem, a hardware deficienty would be less likely.

EDIT: http://www.pcdecrapifier.com/ (could be usefull removing the junkware)

Pretty sure it's not broken. It's an ex-display, but it's not done much.

Ok, problems it may be:

Memory too low coz of one of the chips blowing out.
Overheating (Serious issue) Make sure there's enough air getting to it.
Norton or other AV's.

From what it sounds like, there's a definite doppler delay on the update of graphics and that points directly to the card, drivers or memory.

Get your best drivers (ALL of them), run a dxdiag, get it some fresh air and drop the graphics size down to 800x600.

If you're still getting fuckups, it's the card.

Guys, it's not the card, I'm pretty sure. It's almost brand new, never had its innards touched, and it only happens on TF2 specifically.
