Hey there, got a simple problem that I could use help with.

I use firefox on my computer for my (I run Windows7 by the way if it matter) and it has a nice feature of leaving my session exactly as I left it when I closed it or turned off the computer, whatever the case, however I unfortunately clicked on one of those bastardized gag links that spams you with unending pop-up windows of stupid jokes. I was able to control it to an extent so I was able to make this post, however this means that the crap is unstoppable on my computer, so I'm hoping that someone can tell me how to close firefox's memory of the windows I've opened so I can continue properly.

Thanks for your help.

Try ending the process a couple of times. That should cause firefox to load a "we bad" screen where you can opt to not restore tabs. Infact heck, doesn't it give you a prompt first? I mean sometimes it will relaunch your tabs but you should also be getting "Restore session" notifications. That or just open Firefox and close it very quickly before the first page can open.

It spams this damned alert with it too:

"Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (news) isn't associated with any program."

So closing it in a decent manner isn't really an option.

Quite frankly I hate the fucking feature, if I wanted to keep the damned session I'd downsize the damned thing and set my computer to "hibernate" not shut down.

If the site matters I went to that moronic Encyclopedia Dramatica website because I saw a mention of it being sued because it was offending Aboriginals so I decided to check out the site and ran over a gag link. Needless to say I'm not going there again. I'm going to completely cleanse my computer and I hope that vile pile of crap is shut down.

EDIT: How would you "end the process" or any of that anyway?

Ctrl Alt Del > (Task Manager) Processes > Firefox.exe > Right Click > End.

If firefox is your main browser, then you can go to start -> run (or search I believe on 7. I use XP) -> type in "http://www.google.com" -> enter. Then, from there, go under options and turn it off.

I was able to close the damned garbage, thank you all for the assistance, I've never really had to perform such a task before, but my biggest issue is that it was bypassing my pop-up blockers just by the sheer amount of incoming crap it had (each tiny box saying "FireFox has blocked 64/99/108/etc pop-ups already and that's per box and there were hundreds).

However I don't like that my scans and the like have come up empty. Is there any way to maybe see if it's slowing down my computers performance temporarily or something? I'm not the smartest when it comes to computers.

Most likely, your computer is fine. The "pranks" like that just do that your computer when you are on that page only. They aim to just mess around with you, but not kill your computer, which is illegal and could land them in jail. Do a scan, and if you pick up nothing, you are perfectly safe.
