If you want something like Clannad, you can watch Kanon(2006).
Made by the same people, and it's almost exactly the same as Clannad.
Plus, who doesn't love Ayu?

Noone!

Although I like Fuuko slightly better.
Is this some kind of Pedophile anime???? 0__0
Uguu~ lol

I am told Claymore is good as well
What makes you think Kanon is for pedophiles?

And Claymore was decent.
I wouldn't recommend it to the OP though, considering what he's asking for.

Dont watch Fma Brotherhood It undermines the greatness that was the original anime mad by bones.
and as always I recommend Ergo Proxy.

Wasn't that bloke taking that by the look of her 5 year old, to see a film? That is odd unless she is his sister.

No I am not new to anime so I know a lot of the characters just look under age.
Question: does he have a relationship with her?
if he does then that is creepy and the sort of anime I stay away from.

She only looks like she's very young. But there's a reason for that. Their relationship is mostly just platonic from what I remember.
Ayu isn't a real girl as such. She's the image of a childhood friend of the main character which was left behind in this world when she died. That's a roundabout way to say 'ghost' I guess, but the point is that they knew eachother as children and she is trying to make him remember.

Watch Future Diary, or Mirrai Nikki.
It's fast paced, muti-character and multi-layered story that never rests through 24 mind boggling episodes. It has its cutesy moments, but it's mostly serious. It has depictions of realistic gore - i.e. people stabbing and shooting each other, some admirably well written characters and relationships (What? An anime that does a gay relationship well? BUAH?) and a plot that WILL BLOW YOUR MIND.
Don't look at the wiki page or read about it as spoilers can ruin your entire experience!
Damn.. i was going to suggest this one too. guess to add to it, check the manga ending if you want a more "complete" ending to mirai nikki. Great story.

]- Puella Magi Madoka Magica

- Bakemonogatari

- FLCL

- Gurren Lagann

- Fate/Zero (It's suggested that you watch Fate/Stay Night first if you want a full understanding of the series, but since Fate/Zero's a prequel it isn't really necessary. Also, Fate/Zero is 10000000000000000000x better than Fate/Stay Night)

- Steins;Gate

- Cowboy Bebop (if you haven't seen it yet.)

- Samurai Champloo

- Welcome to the NHK

- Any of Satoshi Kon movies

- K-ON!

- Lucky Star

- Nichijou

These are just some of my favorites.
This person know what they are talking about, except the VN of F/SN is a lot better than the anime, Studio Deen disgraced FSN with the anime, but it is still watchable if you are new to the series.

Well I suppose that is ok, a little too borderline for my taste. The ghost bit is cool though.

The Ayu line is fairly sweet, actually.
There's a different line where a girl who is actually a fox-god/demon who has turned into a girl is living with him. She slowly turns back into a fox while he takes care of her as he realizes her love for him. But really it looks a lot like a guy looking over and petting a girl who is slowly moving into mental disability.

Hello escapists I need your help on finding a new anime to watch.
I have only actually finished two full anime's (Black Blood Brothers and Clannad/Clannad After Story) and I am looking for a new anime to watch, preferably something like Clannad (sorta high school drama) but all suggestions are valued.

Just a quick note: don't mention Bleach, FMA or Death Note as I am fully aware of them and will get to watching them soon :p

Thanks people!!
I hate to be the normal(ish) person in the thread, but have you seen Cowboy Bebop? It might not be anime enough for a lot of pure anime fans, but it's one of the greatest stories ever told when watched in full. It's not very long, and each episode stands alone as an amazing story in and of itself (which is also not always a staple in anime).

Give it a shot and I promise it will stay near the top of the greatest shows you've ever seen.

Nono.
The fox girl isn't Ayu. Ayu is the ghost. The fox is Makoto. The fox story is absurd and a bit creepy. The ghost story is sweet.

These are all outside of the genre you mentioned, but they're worth checking out.

Last Exile
Broken Blade (6 episodes, each 45 minutes long. Fantasy mecha show, great animation)
King of Thorn (a movie, check out the manga too)
Jormungand (ongoing series, a lot of people comparing it to Black Lagoon)
Jyu-Oh-Sei
Seirei no Moribito
Chrono Crusade
The Tower of Druaga
Fractale
Dead Leaves (another movie, by Gainax studio, fast nonsense style similar to FLCL)
Paranoia Agent
Bobobo-bo-bo-bobo (logic does not exist)

Some of these will put you in awe, others go in a separate direction altogether, you're welcome.

ok u confused me now, why r u talking about a fox, then a ghost?.

On another note i am watchin cowboy bebop at the moment (like right now) due to the suggestions on this thread. Apart from the pretentious opening theme it is quite good.

I suppose School Rumble is the only one off the top of my head that I can think might be good for you that hasn't been mentioned. It would be better if you were a bit more specifics about likes and dislikes eg. no ecchi, bloody violence or something like that. Then I could give you more animes based on that. I know you said all suggestions valid but it would give me a better idea of what you wanted also you could ask the anime group on the Escapist too.

Trigun, Fairy Tail, Dragonball Kai (its Z without the fillers and follows the Manga)and FMA: Brotherhood (I know you have FMA, but this has to be specified)

P.S: thank you for reminding me of BBB, I loved that anime

I'd highly suggest against these first

Death Note - Tried incredibly hard to seem intelligent, full of plot holes.
Elfen Lied - Virgin Nerd pandering for hours.
Hellsing - Series revolves around how invincible and cool Hellsing is, he's one-dimisional and since he's so powerful there's no real plot.
Bleach - Goes on and on, no real end in sight, story and character designs get more and more ridiculous.

Now I'd actually [b/]suggest[/b]

Cowboy Bebop + Movie
Speed Grapher
Paranoia Agent - This is probably the closest to "high school drama" that I watch.
Samurai Champloo + Movie
Ghost In The Shell + Movies
Paprika - Is a movie
Tekkonkinkreet - Is a movie

Now it's not an anime, but if you want a game that feels like you're living an anime and revolves around high school life but still has a plot, Persona 4 for Ps2 is worth checking out.

I'd argue that K-ON! and Lucky Star are crap, but yeah, all those other ones are solid.

Its "american" anime, but I can't say enough good things about The Legend of Korra. You can even watch it legally at the Nickelodean's site: nick.com/shows/legend-of-korra?navid=characterNav

Today's episode will be up on nick.com monday and has a fight seen that made my jaw hit the floor.
