Ok, so I was trying to fix a bad horrible hard drive for someone, couldnt format it the conventional way, so thought i would stick into my computer as a slave, and format it using some programme i could find. I found Active@ Over kill or something like that.

The format went through, and then i rebooted. Seemed fine to me.
So i removed that hard drive and went about my business.
Unfortunately i couldnt boot.
There was a read error on my disc press Ctrl+alt+dlt to restart.

Damn.

So i attacked it. Booted from disc, tryed safe mode. EVERYTHING. I then had a brain wave to replace said broken drive into my computer as slave again. It worked. Unfortuntely i havent figured out what to do next. first thing i did was to get rid of that stupid programme incase it was to blame, secondly i repaired windows. Is there any more suggestions out there?

(by the by i am running windows xp service pack 3, on a maxtor ide 250gb hard drive (soon to be replaced))

Thanks for the help.

1) Make a system-backup of your OS for future problems.
2) Did you try formating the slave HDD using the windows-format-thing?

Make sure that the boot drive is the drive that's staying?

Get into the BIOS and set the boot order to make the primary hard drive the first thing to boot from. If that doesn't work you'll just need to do what I do and make sure to select the correct boot device at every boot-up.

That's all I've got for yah. If you want some help with it just quote me.
