I was on my 360 a few minutes ago when a friend messaged me a link and said that when he went there and did what it said, he got 2000 Microsoft points free.
The guy that message me, I don't know him that well, just that we played some Halo 3 multiplayer several months ago. I hadn't really talked to him since.
I have a picture of what I found when I used the link, but it doesn't explain enough to me that I can't dismiss it as a scam. It just seems too good to be true.

Definatly looks like a scam mate. If something is free but requires passwords, then its a scam. Otherwise it wouldn't matter who got it and a password wouldn't be required.

Ok, it's someone offering you a way to earn free microsoft points and you have to enter your password in order to earn them.

Do you really need help with this? Of course it's a scam.

Step 1: Get said "friend" to reply with a small verification number\
Step 2: If he answers the number correctly disregard and block him anyway

I think it is a scam, most of the time someone asks for your password it normally is a scam.

It's a scam if it's asking for your password. Just always assume that.

If it actually gave you points wouldn't it ask for your Gamertag? Who or how would something other than Microsoft give out free points. If it wasn't a scam wouldn't you have heard about it in other ways like a news posts or an official announcement?

Looks like a scam to me.

Can scammers assume the identity of a friend and send a message through Xbox Live, because after I got the message, I quickly got out of the game I was playing. When I got back to the main screen I saw that the friend wasn't active only a minute after the message was sent.

I didn't know because I played against the guy on several occasions, but I guess he could be a scammer.

Most likely your friend fell for the scam, then the scammers logged onto his account and used it to message all of your friend's friends (aka you). That, or your friend is a scammer. It could be anything really but I'm pretty sure that is a scam. It has no reason to ask for your password if it wasn't.

scammer, once my friend who i played with daily for over a year sent me one exactly like that, i ignored it and later sent out a message to all friends saying that because he entered something into a form like that he was hacked, and then the hacker sent the same thing to all friends on his friends list so id say if you want to keep your friends, ignore it

Playing against someone a few times doesn't instantly check them out as legitimate. Even if you know 'em in real life, it's more likely that they're trying to scam you or they've been hacked.

Thanks, for the info, it never hurts to ask. I should have known, nothing is free.

Okay, I'll stay silent and let it blow over.

nope, it's a scam. they have said before that stuff like this is not them, as they already know your password. someone fell for it, then they got hacked, then sent stuff to everyone on their friends list, maybe all but one ignored it, but one didn't and got hacked, and now one of your friends has fallen for it, and has sent you the message.
