I just finished doing my Coop (Extended Internship) this summer now I have a few weeks to beat my backlog of games. The problem is my two roommate hate anything non-MW2.
I have tried everything:
I have shown them Battlefield: Bad Company 2 - response "graphics suck for online in that game".
I bought the new BlazBlue game the only fighting game one of the ever liked - response "I just don't like the new game". He was better at the old game than me and only quite because he had tests to study for.
The only success I had was getting one of them to play Limbo but he beat that in an afternoon and won't look at anything else online because they are all just "short flash games".

I have Alan Wake, Dragon Age Origins/Awakenings, Valkyria Chronicles, Dead Space, Batman; nothing work with them. I have to either play when both are gone/asleep (not likely as they are insomniac potheads) or I get like 10 minutes of play time then they kick me off the game so they can play MW2 online for the next 1-2 hours.
O Great Gods of the Escapist help this mere mortal.

Just let them be. It's their decision to be single game gamers. Go play exciting singleplayer games and talk about how awesome they are. Also, play cool looking games infront of them and act like you're having a ton of fun. It's pointless to argue with them, they best way to show them the error of their ways is to demonstrate how much better it is to play more than one game. Make them feel like losers for not listening to your advice. Then you burn everything downplay Minecraft.

Sounds like your roommates are what's wrong with gaming nowadays.

Unfortunately they're also allowed to have their own opinion, so I say work out a time-share sorta thing for the games, or get new roommates.

If they only wish to play 1 game then unfortunately for you that's their choice. As for getting time to play, I'd do as Thunderhorse says and tryy to come to an agreement of who can play when. Sorry, I can't be of much help.

Is beating them down with a stick an option?

If not, then try and convince them MW2 is assablanca via showing off good games (like Saints Row 2, random violence should fit their bill) or showing them the nonsense Activision is pulling and seeing if that can make them hate it.

They sound rather...noobish...

Make your router have a sudden "malfunction" so that they lose their server connection?

If you are truly at a last resort, cause I.T. havoc on their asses. Otherwise, well, do you have other gaming options?

Why don't you just tell them to fuck off?

Or try Borderlands. I cured my friends cousin of "CoD Syndrome" by recommending Borderlands to him. Now he says he doesn't like CoD anymore.

just ignore their obsession with MW2 and try to set up a schedule when people play
since you said they only play for about 1-2 hours and that they are up playing late anyways
you can set it so you get it earlier and they can get it later like at night
and if that doesnt work
punch them in the face
or if its possible (i never really played MW2)
play MW2 with them using every cheap move or exploit you can to make them dislike playing it

I am guessing the console is yours than. I think you should tell them that since it is your console they can't just kick you off like they do and instead should bring their own consoles next time.

They can't really expect you to stop playing just because they want to play some MW2. Next time they try to get you off, tell them you're not done. There has to be something else they can do when you were the first one on.

If not... get new roommates. Ones with less shallow taste in games.

Just log into the router and initiate a remote restart. All but the cheapest routers offer this option.

Dude, just play when they are not playing. When they play, go do somethings else . If you play, dont let them kick you out, telling them you will hand them over the console when you are finished. Maybe they will try to coerce you (read: beat you )but after a while they will eventually get tired of it and let you play. Its not that they are going to kick you out of the apartment over a video game.

PS: If they DO kick you out over a videogame, you didnt deserved them as roommates.

Show them Mass Effect, Borderland, Halo ('eh it's better then MW2) Street Fighter, Saints Row 2, the Orange Box, Medal of Honor, Golden Eye, or Melee (not brawl). If none of that works, to wean them off of MW2. Just start messing with them, by having the internet connection randomly 'die' on random days that they play MW2 online. This should get them angered enough that they may give up entirely or strike out to buy their own Xbox, to play MW2.

Well I say PC game for a bit, try and find some good games for it and I mean good devoted games for the PC and see if it effects them at all.

Sorry to say this, friend, but you seem to be fucked.

Your only solution is to find a way to dumb yourself down until the only thing you can enjoy is the simple, point and shoot Call of Duty.

Do you have anywhere else to game?
