Lets just be honest, we need to see more of Applejack's family, period. Though for now I'll accept episodes featuring Apple Bloom as an adequate substitute.
Agreed, though has anyone else noted how Applebloom's accent changes quite a bit?

Quite a lot as far as I can tell although I can not remember most of them....: Dr. Who(of) is one.
There are also quite a lot of references to Greek mythology: Manticore, Icarus (Rarity's wings) and the Cockatrice (I think that one is middle European though).

Huffy the magic dragon, Alice in Wonderland (Angel waving a watch about being 'late') & Dagobah (Pinkie Pie's twitch-thing episode), scene transition and all.
Diamond Dogs, come on! 'preciousssssssssssss'?!
Which leads me to wonder about the supposed target demographic of this show.
Ahh yes, somehow I forgot about those... Don't really know I could do that.
The target demography must be young girls and their parents who might very well be around my age and therefore knows these things. And of course those like myself who just find it a good show.

Do fainting goats count as a nerd reference? FS and RD faint on their backs and "baah" multiple times in Dragonshy.
In Fall Weather Friends Twilight's running number is 42.
The final episode has a lot of Cinderella references.
The episode name "Boast Busters" is a play on "Ghost Busters".
I'm sure there are others but that's all I can think of off the top of my head.
Episode 1: One of the names Pinkie guesses to Nightmare Moon is "Hokey Smokes", a reference to Rocky the Flying Squirrel from Rocky & Bullwinkle. Look B4 Sleep: The title of Twilight Sparkle's book "Slumber 101: All You Wanted to Know About Slumber Parties, but Were Afraid to Ask" is a reference to the 1972 Woody Allen film "Everything You Wanted to Know About Sex: But were Afraid to Ask" and book of the same name. Swarm of Century: Rainbow Dash's quote "I can't hold it. She's breaking up" is a reference to Six Million Dollar Man.
Hmm, I stopped when I realized I was mostly listing movie references TV and not "nerd" references.
Just throwing this out there, but how many shows can you think of where the overwhelming majority of the characters are male, with only a few bland or stereotyped females are present?
Even if MLP was sexist in that regard, it's only a drop in the bucket.
I would protest if the only women made mindless horse braying. Now that's sexist. As I said I didnt watch more than the pilot. Hey power puff girls had a dad that all I'm saying.

No one bats an eye when the only reoccurring female characters in Spongebob are token accomplished tomboy and teen moron. I'll take Spike and Big Macintosh over them any day.
Spongebob is a gay acceptance cartoon. So I think she is the token lesbian. Shes hairy, feels out of place, looking for someone like her. We can over analyze cartoons all day.
Its worth trying at the very least. One thing before you do; Don't watch the first two episodes and quit. They are the pilots and not as good as any of the other episodes.

What @kortin said. The pilot gives the show some backstory, but I jumped in at episode 4 when someone told me to watch it first to see if I liked it or not. From there I was hooked, and watched from the start.
My honest opinion: To find out for yourself if you like it, watch the first 4 episodes if you can, and then see how you feel. It's about an hour and a half out of your life, but I'd still highly recommend doing it if you have the time.
From there, well... No one could say you didn't at least give it a proper try if you don't like it.

I don't get it- you as the OP point out the imbalance of the representation of the sexes in MLP, then when I point out the sexual representation in another cartoon, it earns a sarcastic remark about overanalysis?
no, but the whole grunting thing is just one of about a million pony puns throughout the series (saloon=saltlick, etc.)
also, the creators are aware of the whole "horses pulling horses" thing and play it up for laughs in later episodes ("here's our horse drawn carriages, and here's horse drawn horse drawn carriages!")
so the conspiracy theories of Troll-lestia being an Authoritarian leader that finds satisfaction in making her little ponies suffer has finally reached these shores.
Take notice of how many antagonizing things could have been prevented by Celestia just pointing out simple things.
Take notice the dissagrements and resentment created when Celestia only sends 2 tickets to the GGG to Twilight sparkle, knowing full well she has 6 friends.
Notice how she let Fluttershy who she knows is crazy about protecting animals go nuts over her Phoenix, and how she praised it after playing a horrible joke on her.
Truly Troll-lestia like any other Deity in Legend, feels pleasure and enjoyment while making her little ponies Suffer.
Yeah, a funny, loving community. Who wants that? I'd rather go to /b/ and get told to go fuck myself.
Seriously, I've seen literally zero in-fandom arguing.

That ain't exactly my problem with the lot of you. But if I were to go into more detail on that subject, I'm fairly certain I'd get some mod punishment, so let's not.
I'd watch the first four episodes and decide for yourself. They're all available on youtube so it should be easy to track donw. I thought i'd hate it and ended up liking it.
Also the fandom is probably the most friendly i've ever seen.
edit: 95% of Pony threads are made by people asking about/bashing Ponies.

What do you mean you people? What exactly is your problem with "the lot of [us]"? I'm genuinely interested as I haven't seen them do anything on this forum except have a lot of threads made about them (which isn't even the fandom's doing, I might add).
