One thing that keeps cropping up when I'm looking for jobs is distance. If you're able to drive, then try broadening your scope of locations. If that isn't an option then the only thing I can suggest is to keep applying to those same places. Thats what I did and I eventually got an interview, the job isn't exactly amazing but hey it brings in the money. Sorry if this hasn't been much help but its the best I can do.

Don't give up hope. It's taken me about a year to find a job, I was on benefits for about 16 weeks, which I hated.
I started work Friday though, and I only have experience working in 3 different jobs.
Use job websites that are available for you, and the job centre can be quite useful.
Look out for 'No experience necessary', they'll be your best bet, as you don't have any actual paid experience.
Try supermarkets and food places. It's not the most exciting work, but they'll take on anyone, especially young adults.
I don't have much experience, but Greggs were happy to take me on.
If you need any good job websites, I'll be happy to help.

Hope this helps, and good luck.

If you really need the money that badly, don't be afraid to lower your standards. If you haven't had experience working at another workplace, you've got it the toughest of all. I applied to eight places when I was looking for my first job and came up dry on every one. Not even a callback. But as soon as I applied at McDonalds, they wanted to interview me before I even left the building after turning in my application. And they did, and I got it.

The work was downright miserable at times, but the people I worked with were nice enough and it gives you a crash course in customer service, and just how badly people will treat you. Retail is very hard to break into without prior experience, but once you have that little bit of experience, they'll take you a bit more seriously. And the best part is, once you do your stint at McDonalds or whatever equivalent you've got in Ireland, your chances of having to go back drastically decrease :)

Yeah I have the same problem in Canada. Not looking for a job right now, but I was all last year.

I hope this summer will be better. I need money to travel to Cuba and China (Don't hurt me, I'm not a commie!) and experience in the workforce for when I graduate.

Only reason I'm trying to get a job is because my dad keeps yelling at me to get one. Now just waiting for a shop to get back to me about an application. Worst thing was I got an interview at a supermarket, didn't get the job but the guy they hired instead got fired after three days working there for stealing alcohol. Idiot.

only thing i can help with is bad news, lower your expectations, you dont mention any education but a close friend of mine used several years becoming a programmer, he now works the graveyard shift as a cashier in 7/11, but he still sends out CVs to every place that has ever programmed anything, so first thing you need is a good CV, get help from family or a teacher, or go down to the unemployment centre and get some help, there are people who work at getting people work and they have tons of great advice, if you really need a job, apply everywhere, everywhere.

i worked at a casino in the back of a kiosk serving coffee and selling smokes once, it might not be dignified, but if you need the money, you need the money, just keep checking in at the unemployment centre and dont be afraid to ask for help, maybe your uncles best friend needs a mail guy at the office.

Im sorry i cant help with more, i wish you the best of luck, and hey i have been in the same boat for a long time so if it gets to much for you and you need to talk about it, just send me a message.

Get someone with experience to take a look at your resume for you. If you are not even getting to an interview then that is likely where the problem is. Also dress well when you are handing out applications and ask to speak to the manager on duty at the time. I am a lot more likely to bring someone in for an interview if I have spoken to them before hand.

This is going to sound bad, but try a bar. I was able to get a job at a bar in the trough of an economic downturn, because the worse things get the better business is in bars. Try tending if you want to get the license or cooking if you don't.
