I was thinking back on my childhood recently. Specifically, I was thinking back on these awesome playsets I had from Micro Machines called Double Takes which had the gimmick of transforming. The Double Takes series unfolded from small, relatively unassuming arenas (though still fun) to frankly bitchin' multi-part settings.

I have since been unable to find much about these Double Takes through Google or other sources.

If any Escapist remembers these toys, specifically how many were there and what they each were (I had the 'army bunker transforms into multi-level base' and 'harbour transforms into big-ass seaport' sets, though their names escape me. I also know there was a Death Star tie-in made) then can they put the info up here. A picture too, if you can get one.

I'm jonesing bad for this nostalgia trip. Can you help a poor no-longer-child out?

Always willing to help a fellow man-child out.
Looking through this site [http://www.m-m-world.com/MMBar.html] it looks like the Double Takes came out in 1998.
Unfortunately that site has a few broken pictures, however these appear to be what your looking for -

These are the other double takes listed -

Also for nostalgia purposes -

Hopefully that's helped out a little.

I dunno, I used to have tons of micro-machines as a kid. Are you talking about the ones that had little playsets, and you could connect them using roads to make a big ass ci-

HOLY CRAP I HAD ONE OF THOSE!

I'm sorry, I actually don't have much to say that hasn't already been said. Those things were the shit. Thanks OP, I needed that nostalgia trip.

I don't know if it was made by the same people, but I had a submarine that split in half and had working torpedo and missile tubes. With the click of a little button you could take out the eyes of every kid in the room. POW!

There was also a great Star Wars line they did with an R2-D2 that was a pain in the ass to open but had a great little model of the Rancor pit with an invaluable model of the monster itself that was of course kept and cherished separately for years, having pride of place at the front of any miniature army I fielded.

Did Micro Machines ever do a big US cargo plane? My brother had the big black stealth bomber that transformed into a weird multi-level base with missile turrets. Absolutely cash.

The great thing about Micro Machines is that all the Double Takes put together were worth more than the sum of their parts, because we'd take the little soldiers, tanks and submarines out of them and stage battles. Considering how many folding parts and neat hidden features they had, they were admirably robust in construction as well.

Here's one I had:

I had that one too, used to square it off against my Substation Phoenix in Pseudo-Blood Gulch battles. It was awesome.

Especially DAT MISSILE LAUNCHER!
