If you like Evanescence you should definitely check out Dead By April. They sound just like them except a guy singer.

Also, check out Cancer Bats, Rob Zombie and Muderdolls. Just a few favourites of mine you might enjoy.

I also find that Muse is pretty awesome to listen to.

I'm not going to worry if either of them are considered "generic". If I like the song, then I like it. I don't worry about stuff like "generic" and "mainstream" or "alternative" and "unique". Music is supposed to move you somehow, if it's some "manufactured" piece of pop, then it's a "manufactured" piece of pop that's moving.

Listen to what you like, not what you think you should. That's my random two cents for the day.

These albums are my personal favorites:

Peter Gabriel: Hit
Paul Simon: Graceland
Poets of the Fall: Carnival of Rust, Twilight Theater.

Here are some of my favorite songs that are not on those albums, if this helps (I don't listen to a lot of albums, just individual songs most of the time):

Skip to 6:44 if you don't like the intro, but I say you listen to it all, it's amazing.

Feel free to pm me if you want more or just have questions :p.

Blue Stahli is amazing thanks for posting that awesomeness (it sounds like Nine Inch Nails + Hardcore Punk + Skinny Puppy + Pendulum).

I listened to them all the time in High School. It has an interesting effect if you've gone without sleep for a while.

Boogiepop Phantom has one of the best anime soundtracks ever. Weird how it doesn't get more recognition.

Them Crooked Vulture's
The Black Keys
Wolfmother
Arctic Monkeys (first album)
The Gaslight Anthem
and...
Without A Face because he's an awesome solo acoustic artist and is planning on releasing a song about charlie sheen.

Also i've noticed there's a lot of love for Three Day's Grace on the Escapist...

EDIT: Forgot to include The Flatliners...even though they're one of my favourite bands atm.

- Scale the Summit (I recommend these guys everywhere... they're just that good)
- Protest the Hero (A cool punk-metal mix that's hard to find anywhere else)
Also seconding this guy's suggestions, two extremely talented and under appreciated bands.

Personally I've been going through a bit of a folk phase lately. Two of my favorites are Mountain Man (some of the most incredible vocals you will ever hear) and John Butler Trio (who I actually first heard about on these forums!)
I'm also a big fan of IDM of all kinds, though my favorites are The Flashbulb, SubtractiveLAD, and Aphex Twin.
Also for guilty-pleasure nerd music I like Jonathan Coulton, MC Frontalot, MC Chris, and MC Lars.

You've probably already heard of it, but I find a lot of new musicians via Pandora.com.

And I realize someone already mentioned them but OMG DAFT PUNK. BUY THEIR MUSIC NOW.
